Hi. I’m really looking forward to your next release with the Stryd integration. I’ve been using the Stryd Apple Watch app for runs and keen to move to WOD. One feature they have that’s helpful is the option to have a status screen before beginning a workout. This shows whether GPS is locked and connection to Stryd has been made. It then gives a large green box to start the workout. This feature is great for races. With 3-2-1 starting of a workout in WOD this can take some guessing to time right! Wondering if this optional feature could be considered for a future release? Thanks.
The next version displays a sensor connection screen whenever you start a workout with sensors. This screen shows the sensor connection status and automatically starts the workout when all the sensors are connected. It still shows the 3-2-1 screen, but that is optional. This screen also has a "Start Anyway" button for starting without the sensors if they do not connect.

I must admit that it could probably be improved for race situations. One of the testers mentioned it last week but I don't want to make any last minute changes because I am currently planning to release very soon. The beta looks stable so I may submit it to Apple for review this week. However if there are problems that delay the release then I may try to improve it in that area.

That’s great its on the roadmap and not too hard to implement. Would make races much easier!

With Stryd support, will it be possible to have an even shorter window for rolling pace, e.g. 3 seconds or so?

The app allows smoothing of the values reported by sensors, so you can make it use the average of the last n Stryd pace values. The default setting is 3 values so would probably give what you want.

Sorry one other question. With the Stryd app if you don’t start the workout straight away while the timing data is correct in Stryd in Apple Health it includes the pause. So for my 10k race yesterday it added 2 mins (in Apple Health) as I started it early to make sure the sensors were connected. Apparently this is ‘normal’ behaviour for Stryd. However am wondering if this is the case with WOD. Do you only write date to Apple Health for actual running time (and ignore and pauses)? Thanks.

I read about a lot of Stryd related stuff in the next release, but because Stryd is too expensive for me as a "fun runner", I am curious what will be new for non stryd users...

The app ignores any time where it is paused (manually or automatically).

There are lots of new features but the main two are sensor support (not just Stryd) and topographic maps.

Other features include series 7 screen support; new screen layouts; FIT file export; new "back to start" and "possibly travelling home" alerts; tennis and soccer; new metrics; new gestures; and lots of other stuff.

AW7 screen support sounds great, that was my first "issue" with WOD when I changed from AW5 to AW7.
Is there a more detailed what-to-expect list somewhere in this forum or somewhere else?
And is the ETA still "later this month"?

I have got a set of release notes that I send to beta testers but I won't post them here because I will then probably get lots of questions about them and I haven't got the time to answer those questions at the moment. I will send them to you in a DM.

As to the release date that is always up in the air. I was planning to release today but a couple of people have found a bug with one brand of cycle speed sensors when using Apple's auto-pause, so I need to fix that. If that goes well then I could release later this week or early next week. Otherwise I may leave it until after WWDC and make sure that it works with the iOS 16 and watchOS 9 betas.

I would prefer a release in the next days and don’t care about a bug concerning a specific bike sensor.
And I guess, quite a lot other folks think alike :D

Just bought WorkOutDoors this morning and absolutely love it! Thought I'd make a macrumors account to thank you for making an amazing app. Just saw this thread with Stryd integration and it's literally going to be the perfect app :)

Thanks for buying the app, and for creating an account just to get in touch. I am glad that you like it!

PLEASE go ahead and release it now!!! I could ask to be a beta tester, but I really want the joy of going to the App Store and seeing that the new release is there!!

Had a couple of other minor issues that I am fixing, so will release another beta soon and see how that goes. Also making a couple of changes that people have requested that I feel will help.

Firstly the ability to start the workout with the big green button, even when using sensors, as was discussed a few days ago. And secondly the ability to configure the sensitivity of the target breach alerts in schedules like you can with general limit alerts.

So for example you can make it that you need 3 consecutive values of higher than the target high before you are warned. This is because some sensors can be quite erratic so this minimises the chance of an odd value resulting in an alert. Some people were getting very frequent alerts when setting narrow target ranges, but this will allow them to minimise the frequency by making it require multiple consecutive breaches of the limits.

So it may be a bit longer before the release. Sorry!

Hey! Awesome app. Very much looking forward to Stryd integration, as it would be fantastic to have running power natively shown in an app other than Stryd's. I have a question or two:
  • Any planned support for bicycle power meters? It'd be so cool to be able to use WOD for running AND biking.
  • Can one import interval workouts instead of having to create them manually? For example, designing a workout in intervals.icu or other software and downloading an ERG file to import into WOD.

Glad you like the app. The next version will support bicycle power meters as well as running power from Stryd.

I will add the ability to import interval schedules from other systems in the future. The release of the next version means that the app is more ready for it, now that it has power metrics throughout and I have coding experience with FIT files. However it is not at the top of my list of features to add so it may be a while before I include it.

When I pause WOD for a long time (like 8 hours), it drains the AW battery (due to the app staying active, with gps etcetera).
I do such long pausing when I take my bike to work and back home and I want both trips in one exercise.
Is there a way to avoid the battery drain while pausing for a long time?
