I use Garmin Connect for creating Running courses. Mainly generated courses.

For hiking I love Komoot.

What is everyone’s favorite system for getting maps into WODs? I’ve used Strava but trying to drop the subscriptions and this is the only thing holding me back.
I guess you mean GPX routes because the maps are included in the app. For well known trails you can usually find a website with a GPX file by Googling the name of the route along with "GPX". For example a website for a particular trail will usually have a GPX file for it.

Try to get a GPX file which includes elevations because WorkOutDoors then colours the route in different shades of purple to indicate the gradient: from red for steep uphill to blue for steep downhill.

There are many websites that offer lots of GPX files, such AllTrails, GaiaGPS and Komoot:

https://www.alltrails.com
https://www.gaiagps.com/hike/
https://www.komoot.com/discover

There are also many websites and apps that allow you to create GPX files manually, such as Footpath, EasyRoute and PlotARoute:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/footpath-route-planner/id634845718
https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/easyroute/id605127860
https://www.plotaroute.com/

My WorkOutDoors app on my AW7 froze when running today - the map failed to move although it seemed to continue recording the run. Turning the crown had no effect (no zoom). I could not find any way to recenter on where i was etc. It remained frozen at one location. I had to stop the app and restart on iwatch. Is this a known bug or am I doing something wrong?
Alex
This has happened to me a few times also. I also get occasional black areas on maps.

I just got a H10 Polar heart rate strap. Got it connected to the Apple Watch and WOD just fine. But it only stays connected to the watch for one workout and then it drops connection. This is NOT an issue with WOD as the strap is no longer connected to the watch at all and no longer shows when I do a scan.

I am thinking that the battery is dying. Is there a way to check the status of the battery on the H10? Or has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks

First, I would check if you have the latest firmware. There were patches in the past adressing connection issues.
Do this with the Polar Beat app.

There you can also see battery status and allow for two Bluetooth connections.

One important thing I learned: the sensor has to be removed from the strap after the workout. Otherwise battery drains fast.

The app has a Heart Sensor Battery metric, which shows the battery percentage reported by the sensor. There is also a Heart Sensor Battery alert that will warn you when it gets below a configurable level. However the reported values from sensors can fluctuate (i.e. sometimes go up), so be wary of them.

Speaking of the Polar H10, is it possible to have two simultaneous bluetooth connections to the Apple Watch? Usually when I go out for a run or a cycle I pair my H10 directly with my AW and I pair my Samsung Buds+ to my phone for music. The other day I wanted to leave my phone at home and listen to a downloaded Spotify playlist but no matter what I did I was unable to get both the Buds+ and the Polar H10 paired with my AW 7 at the same time.

Has anyone done this and know if it is possible?

I do this all the time, even with three connections. Polar OHR, Stryd and bluetooth headphones at the same time.

You should be able to pair both and more. I haven't found any official Apple documentation on the limits but I "attended" a virtual talk by one of the Apple engineers last year. They said that there was a limit of a total of 2 Bluetooth devices across all 3rd party apps, but that didn't include Bluetooth connections with watchOS, such as headphones and HRM.

So you should be able to connect headphones and HRM via watchOS as well as another two sensors via third party apps such as WorkOutDoors.

I must be doing something wrong. Out of curiosity, which thing did you pair first? I've only tried once or twice but when I did I first paired the headhphones and got the music going and then I tried to pair the Polar H10, but I was never able to get them to connect. I have WOD set to connect to bluetooth sensor at the start of a workout and make a noise when connected but it never happened.

Ok, that makes sense. Part of the issue is that the strap would show as connected when I went to setting on AW, but when I started up WOD it wouldn't show a connection to the HRM in the app. I have WOD set to automatically pair with my Polar when I start a workout and give a little chime when it connects.

If you connect the H10 via watchOS then it will not be able to connect via WOD. However you can still use it in the app by selecting watchOS as the source for HR instead of trying to pair with the app.

Komoot for both hiking and biking trails. Export GPX directly from the app to WOD on the phone and good to go

Gotcha, it's definitely far easier to pair H10 with WOD app rather than going through settings. I'll double check that I do that next time rather than try to pair it through watchOS settings.

Polar and headphones via watchOS, Stryd via WOD (respective Stryd app in the past).

Can't remember what the sequence was in the past. Only paired them once and then they automatically connect to watchOS.

I use Gaia GPS. It will export a GPX file directly to the WorkOutdoors app. Gaia offers paid subscriptions to access advanced map layers but exporting files is included in the free version.

WorkOutDoors kept on crashing on my iPhone. Tried everything, until I had no other choice but to uninstall and reinstall. Is there any way to recover all previous workouts at once? They seem intact on the Watch.

Sorry you had problems. I have heard of this a couple of times recently and it has been as a result of the workout file being corrupted when sent from the watch to the iPhone, so I think there is a rare bug which has appeared in recent versions of watchOS / iOS.

Unfortunately if you have uninstalled the iPhone app then you will have lost all the workouts. Sorry about that. iOS should have warned you when you uninstalled it. However you can send the workouts individually from the Workout History on the watch. You can't send them in bulk though. Also the watch only stores up to 50 workouts because it is intended for long times away from the iPhone, but not as a repository of all workouts.

If anyone else has this problem then please do not re-install the iPhone app. The way to fix it is to switch the app into Safe Mode. To do this go to Apple's Settings app on the iPhone and tap WorkOutDoors and then Start in Safe Mode. This will prevent the app from trying to process any received files when it starts up. You can then delete the top workout by swiping left. Then disable Safe Mode and the app should start correctly.

You can then go to the Workout History on the watch app and select that workout and tap Resend to iPhone. This will make the workout visible again in the iPhone app. The fact that resending the same file works is what makes me think that the problem was a data corruption when it was first sent.
