Kinda a shame - I'd have loved to build a companion app for this. 😂 But yeah, totally understandable.
As long as they are not running a workout then yes, any app can run at the same time. So you could use another app to broadcast your location. Can the App runs alone at the same time like WOD?
Understandable. Find My works fine for me as I only run on roads that are on Apple's maps but as someone pointed out a few weeks ago it doesn't show breadcrumbs and when hiking through the woods or mountains that could be helpful. As I said in another post, I wrote a simple app that pulls your location using unofficial APIs used by find.icloud.com to build a breadcrumb map but it only refreshes every 2mins so it's not the greatest. Hmm, I haven't tested this while tracking an activity, maybe it would refresh more often. I'll have to give that a shot later.I think that would worry users who are concerned about privacy. In theory it would be secure because the user would have to specify exactly where the location data is being sent, but just the fact that the app can be configured to constantly send a user's location somewhere would deter some users. This is one of the reasons that I prefer to leave that to other systems like Find My.
I saw that. He's a great coder so it should be interesting to see what he produces. I expect that the Ultra will mean a few competitors for WOD in terms of workouts and maps. If it means more buyers for the Ultra then that could be a good thing for the app.@cfc I see David Smith (of widgetsmith and watchsmith apps) appears to be working on a hiking map with full maps. Might be worth keeping an eye on for yourself.
One problem with GAP is that it is a subjective algorithm and I try to avoid those. If I can find an algorithm that no-one will complain about then I may add it in the future, but it is rarely requested. Sorry about that. Can you create a Field who will display the normalized Grade Adjusted Pace?
Grade Adjusted Pace is your equivalent running pace at the same effort on flat ground at sea level.
Hi cfc! WOD is just the BEST app for the Apple Watch. Absolutely love it. So now that is out of the way, I'll annoy you with a questionThird party apps were unable to use the always on display until watchOS 8 was released. I plan to add it in the future but it won't be in the app for a while because it will be a lot of work. Sorry about that. Updating the screen when inactive requires Apple's latest coding language (known as SwiftUI). This appeared long after WorkOutDoors was first released, so the app does not use it.
My current plan is to finish off the next version of the app and then look into it. It is Apple's developer conference in a few weeks, so there may be more information then. I am not optimistic but you never know...
At the moment I am focussed on releasing a version that supports the action button for the Ultra, but after that I will start work on the Always On Display and on improved navigation features.Hi cfc! This would be especially helpful while riding a bike. Thank you!
The app supports sensors which support the standard bluetooth protocols for "cycling power", "cycling speed & cadence", "running speed & cadence", and "heart rates". It does not yet support the "fitness machine" profile. So as long as the trainer supports the "cycling power" profile and not just the "fitness machine" profile then it should work.Hello Guys,
What to say, but great app !
2 questions :
- I saw that some sensors could be used : I train with a tacx smart flux s with success to have metrics. My question is : can the power be controled with the app ?
- Is there a way to have ETA for waypoints in case of track followed ?
Thanks for your answers.

Waypoints are in my plans as part of the navigation improvements that I will start on after the next version with the action button for the Ultra is released.
Go to the Settings and tap Sensors and then scan for nearby sensors. If you can't see it then it probably doesn't support the Bluetooth Cycling Power protocol.Great for the waypoints !
Related to the cycling power control, that means that it should work right now ? just to be sure to have properly understood. If so, how can I do that ?
Thanks for the heads up. My advice to them would be to reboot the watch.@cfc
In a german forum I read the following.
Das mit WorkOutdoors kann man vergessen. Das Programm überlebt bei mir keine Radtour >2 h ohne abzustürzen. Powermeter geht, aber praktisch ist es nicht einsetzbar.
You can WorkOutdoors forget. The program survives me no bike ride longer 2 hours without crashing. Powermeter goes, but practically it is not applicable.
From my experience i can assure you, that tracking a 10 hour hike with the app is absolutely no problem.@cfc

After that my old series 4 with only 80 % battery capacity remaining had 5 % remaining.
I am sure, that with the new Ultra you could get around 15 hours of tracking with AOD off.
Never had this issue in all of my tracked activities (more than 150)It is not a problem with battery life, the App Crash when he tracks longer bike activities.
Repeated crashes are almost always because watchOS has gone rogue, or another app is causing it to go rogue. Rebooting usually fixes it.It is not a problem with battery life, the App Crash when he tracks longer bike activities.
Thanks for the answer. I already did it.Go to the Settings and tap Sensors and then scan for nearby sensors. If you can't see it then it probably doesn't support the Bluetooth Cycling Power protocol.
Do you mean the app telling the device to change its resistance level? Sorry - that isn't possible because the app only reads data from Bluetooth sensors at the moment. It does not send data to them. Thanks for the answer. I already did it.
BUT, is there any way to "control" the cycle power during the exercise through the watch ? (as tacx app do it with the iphone app)
The distances come from Apple's health system by default. When they are incorrect then it usually means that the watch needs calibrating as described here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204516.Hi! I have an issue with the distance. I ran uphill with the "run"-mode one day and walked exactly the same route with the "hiking"-mode the next day. The hiking showed me more than 1km more than running. Why? The GPS was fine all the way and the route where exactly the same (actually the running was 50 meter longer because I started on the other side of the road, but that is the mode that is showing the shortest distance).
