Hi, I’m a fan of the screen lock approach the app uses (tap 4 times) but I cannnot tell if the screen is locked. Is it possible to have a more obvious indicator? When I lock the screen I see some red text pop up at the bottom of the screen. This is too small for me to read but I assume it says locked. this is great but it does not stay red so later when I come to unlock the watch it is not obvious if it’s already locked, or if the 4 taps have registered to unlock or not. It would be better if the text could stay red always when locked so it’s immediately obvious the status of the screen lock. Sometimes I will lock/unlock several times in a session so I don’t remember the state. Just an idea…

I will bear it in mind when I next look at that area of the app. Thanks for the feedback.

hi all - are there any differences with indoor or outdoor screen functionality? For example with the indoor screens, does it disable GPS to conserve power?

The app does not use GPS when running an indoor workout.
Thank you - how do I tell if it is an indoor or outdoor screen? For example "Weight Training Screens" is this indoor or outdoor? Outdoor unless specified indoor? is there a way to rename the screen names?

The name of the screen does not matter. It is the type of activity that controls whether the GPS is used. So the app will use the GPS for the whole of a workout with an outdoor activity type, regardless of what screen is displayed.

OK thanks - then the best way I can see to differentiate is that the indoor activities show the HR in the upper left corner when the outdoor activities show the GPS bars. is there a way to hide the HR in the upper left corner as it's somewhat hard to see at-a-glance and I already have HR in a bigger window on the activity screen

Sorry - no-one has ever asked to hide that.

I'm a long term user of the app which I've been running alongside my Fenix for hiking. With the Ultra, and with WOD I can see the time is finally coming where I can leave the Fenix behind on a thru hike. How can I get added to the beta program I'd really like to help test new features for hikers? Thanks

You are right. I just upgraded to WOS9.1
That is interesting. So it seems that it only affects people running 9.1, but not everyone because it works fine for me.

I may wait until Apple publish some official documentation before I release this version to the App Store. It was never ideal working from unofficial blogs and tweets, but at least the action button seemed to work (mostly) on watchOS 9.0. Now that has changed then it may not be worth the risk, even if I can fix it not working on 9.1 for some people.

The use of the action button by third party apps still seems to be unstable, which may be why Apple haven't published any documentation about it yet.

I am on 9.1 too and it works like before

Thanks. It works on 9.1 for me too, but so far everyone who can't get it working is on 9.1.

A question for the people for whom it doesn't work on 9.1: did you ever try it and get it working on 9.0? I am wondering if it only works for people on 9.1 who had it previously working on 9.0.

Yes, I had it working on 9.0.
On 9.1 it only start WOD but can’t pause it..

That means that it isn't related to whether you had it working on watchOS 9.0 then because for me it worked on 9.0 and still works on 9.1. Thanks for ruling out that theory.

Which options do you have active? I've chosen:
In Workoutdoors:
Both side Buttons: New interval
Action button: pause/resume

Watch:
action:Training
App: Workoutdoors

I'm using beta 9.2 works great, I can replace it with any action from the list, I just chose pause / start, all good.

The app does not store the elevation in Apple's Health system. I assume they derive that from the GPS data in the workout route, which could be why it is less smooth.

There are however issues in the current version when using the always on altimeter, so you may want to switch that off in the Other Settings section of the Settings tab in the iPhone app. These should be fixed in the next version.
Interesting to know that not all data recorded in WorkOutDoors is stored in Apple Health.
I always assumed that the Apple Health Data is a 1:1 representation.

I tried to find out what data is exactly saved in Apple Health. But I kind of of gave up after a few hours research as I could not figure out what is exactly included in Apple Health Data.
But currently my assumption is that at least elevation and speed is not included and needs to be calculated from other data.
So I assume that apps that export from Apple Health, like HeathFit have some calculations running to generate that data?
And that is the reason that some parameters (like elevation and speed) from workout data directly exported from WorkOutDoors looks different compared to Apple Health exports.

I’m now interested what Data should be better used. Direct Export from WorkOutDoors or from Apple Health?

Or am I completely overthinking it?

I’m just really frustrated as my favourite workout analysis tool (SmoothRun) that does not apply lots of additional data smoothing has issues with the elevation data (export from Apple Health) and speed data (export from WorkOutDoors).

Btw. turning the altimeter on or off did not make any noticeable difference to my elevation data.
