Did I read correct. The elevation from the Apple Watch did Not Save to Apple Health?

Why ?

This means, that all Apps that read from Health did not have the elevation metrics 😳

I‘m very disappointet about this.

Is that really true? I was hiking in the mountains two weeks ago and the ascent/descent value were in my opinion way to accurate to be from GPS. Hmmm….

I only noticed this afternoon that if you enable the 'Low power' option in Apple Workouts (which temporarily enables low power for the duration of the workout), all other workout apps benefit. When I did my WOD run, low power mode was enabled and automatically disabled after.

So WOD enabled it temporarily automatically? That's pretty cool if so.

Got it!
I removed the Beta from Watch and iPhone. Re-install beta erosion from both Watch and iPhone on 9.1 version and it’s working fine now.

The workout route that is stored in Apple Health includes the locations supplied from Apple's "Core Location" system during the workout. Apple are not clear about where this comes from but I have always assumed that it is the GPS. However it could be that the elevations for each location come from elsewhere (maybe the always on altimeter).

WOD specifically gets the elevations from Apple's always on altimeter if present and enabled, otherwise from the barometer and the GPS.

I suppose in theory I could override the elevations in the Core Location records with the values from the always on altimeter, but no-one has ever complained that the elevations in the Health system do not match those in the app, so it is not something I have really considered. It is hard to know whether it would be worthwhile without knowing what elevations Apple store in the Core Location positions stored in Apple's health system.

My guess is any app calling the Apple Workout system triggers the low power mode if set.
That would be my guess too. WOD uses Apple's workout system, so the watch switches into low power mode when the app starts a workout.

I wonder if WOD uses the workout system whether a run with WOD also helps calibrating the pedometer.
My watch is relatively new and it would make sense to get in more calibration runs, but I prefer WOD over the native app.

Yes, enabling the low power mode automatically works for me always, disabling after ending the workout works only sometimes. But I don’t know why.
I’ve done two workouts this morning. Your experience may be different but in both cases Low Power mode was disabled but about 2-3 minutes after the workout had finished. When you finish a workout, the watch calculates your recovery rate over two minutes. My theory is it doesn’t disable Low Power mode until after that has completed.

I don't know whether you need to use Apple's workout app for calibration or whether it happens with any workout app such as WOD.

However Apple's website only mentions their app so I usually recommend that people use that, just to be sure.

What is this calibration thing? I wore my series 4 since it was newly released and just got the ultra. Is this something I need to do?

Not unless you’re having issues with irregular step counting, or know things like distance are way out.

Has anyone ever paired his Specialized Vado/Levo/Creo SL with Workoutdoors? Would like to show the cadence on the Apple Watch.

When I give the iPhone to the bike he finds no sensor.

The Cadence sensor on my other bike was immediately recognized from WOD.

You may find that spinning the pedals when scanning for sensors helps. Some sensors only provide the cadence data when being spun.

So unpair the sensor and then spin the pedals whilst scanning again.

If that doesn't work then the sensor may be using the Fitness Machine Bluetooth profile and not the usual Running Speed and Cadence profile. If so then WOD cannot connect to it. I will add support for such sensors at some time in the future.

Hi Ian,

I think you've mentioned before that you shouldn't use indoor run for anything but running as it can affect the Apple Watch calibration. I play football indoors and have been using the Soccer profile in WOD. Aware this uses the GPS sensor which is obviously limited being in a sports hall. It does give me a distance moved at the end of the workout - does this use the watch's sensors rather than GPS for this distance? Is there any issue of having GPS while indoors?

Thanks.

I have a Levo ebike and wondered if the bike can be paired ? Any luck

The distance will come from the GPS, so will be meaningless indoors. Sorry.

That is on my list but below the Ultra action button, the Always on Display, and the navigation improvements. At the moment it is probably next in line after them, but that won't be for a while and priorities can change in that time.
+1 here. Very much looking forward to importing structured workouts (specifically, from Final Surge)! 🤞🤞 this comes soon. With this feature in WOD - I could ditch iSmoothRun and my Garmin 245.

Just got the new beta and the action button is working flawlessly now, pause/resume, intervals, etc. Nice work!!

Thanks for the new beta @cfc - Action + Side button works for me now!

Only the “labels” on the red/orange screens that show when you press to Action (+Side) button are still a bit weird/non-descriptive. Ideally the “Pause/Resume” notifications show in there (only) like in the built-in Workouts app.

But functionality-wise: GREAT! 👍🏼
