Just got the new beta and the action button is working flawlessly now, pause/resume, intervals, etc. Nice work!!
That's great to hear!

However I am still worried about the problem with watchOS 9.1. It seems to happen after rebooting the watch, so it's best to avoid that. If you do reboot it then please let me know if it breaks the action button functionality. If so then reinstalling the watch app seems to fix it.

It would also be interesting to know if anyone on the watchOS 9.2 beta has the same problem.

I can't release to the App Store with such a problem so I need to fix it somehow. I just hope that it is something that I am doing wrong, and that it isn't a watchOS issue that I can't work around.

Latest beta: Action button is working perfectly.
Setting:
Action button = Next interval
Action button + side button = pause / start
Both side buttons = Screen lock

Ah, can confirm that rebooting leads to action button not working with a failure notification from watchOS. Reinstalling fixes it. I don't think I've rebooted my watch once since updating so that's probably why I haven't had any issues. Sadly, I don't have the 9.2 beta. I'm fairly adventurous, but no DFU mode in case something major breaks makes it too risky :(

Thanks for confirming that. At least it seems consistent.

Looking at the update notes, looks like there was a power sensor crash? I had a ride force close the other day, had a HR monitor and power meter connected to the watch. I assumed I hit a side button? I know you can’t say for sure, but do you think the culprit may have been that bug? I disabled side button actions just in case I hit it by accident.

Maybe this has been answered before, but I cannot find it:
When I use a STRYD pod, is there any chance to get pace from STRYD but distance still from GPS?
I liked this setting from the Garmin watches - you get good instant pace but distance independent from a maybe wrong calibration factor.

What power sensor do you have? The app seems to have problems with the Wahoo Kickr so I am trying to work out why.

Sorry, this isn't possible. I considered it but thought that it may confuse a lot of people to have separate sensors for "Current Pace" & "Average Pace & Distance".

This was mainly because I was starting simple with the sensor functionality, so I may change it in the future. After all the app allows it for the standard watch sensors. You are only the second person to ask for it though, so it is unlikely in the near future.

Quarq. SRAM crank based power.

I do have a Kickr, as well, so I could test that if it would be helpful.

A few more questions from my side:

1) Does WOD offer workout aggregate data? This is what Strava does well eg total KMs ran for the week/month, fastest 10k, etc. I could just use Strava but haven't really liked giving my data and don't use the social features.

2) If WOD plan to aggregate workout data, what is the best way to sync WOD with Strava? I have turned off the WOD to Strava auto-sync as I am always offline when I complete a workout (do not have mobile with me) and hence don't want that error message popping up every time. I followed the directions here: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216917527-Health-App-and-Strava the workouts do not appear automatically - I have to manually force the transfer.

Thank you

Actually one person has had problems with the Quarq and he also reported problems with the Kickr today.

It would be interesting to see if you also have problems with the Kickr, but I assume you will because I have had multiple reports of problems with that. I had hoped that the latest beta had fixed them but it sounds like it has just reduced them.

The problem with power sensors is that they are too expensive for me to go out and buy lots of them, like I did with HR, cadence and speed sensors. So if they do something different that the app doesn't handle correctly then it is hard to debug. To be honest I am tempted to remove support for those models of Power sensors but we will see how it goes. I am waiting to hear back from the people with Kickr problems about what model is causing issues, so if it is just one model and it is not too expensive then I may buy it.

The app shows aggregate data if you tap the icon in the top right of the Workouts tab. You can then filter, sort and group, with the last option showing totals.

However WOD is not intended for that sort of analysis. It is mainly a workout creation app like Apple's native Workout app. I tend to leave more advanced analysis to systems like Strava etc whilst I focus on the experience during the workout.

If the watch app fails to auto-upload to Strava then the iPhone app will also try it when you next open it. If that fails then you can tap the Export button for that workout and then choose Upload to Strava.

Alternatively you could use a third party app such as HealthFit to automatically upload to Strava from Apple's Health system.

Thanks - looks like I'll be uploading to Strava then. Is there a way to disable the Strava auto-upload from the WOD Watch (so I don't get the strava offline error on the watch) and instead rely on WOD app to upload to Strava in the background?

Sorry it either tries on both or neither. I will bear that in mind in future though.

I wonder if WOD uses the workout system whether a run with WOD also helps calibrating the pedometer.
My watch is relatively new and it would make sense to get in more calibration runs, but I prefer WOD over the native app.
This has always been a concern of mine. I have only done a handful of runs with the Workouts app. My distances seem good but I'm always wondering if I should do a random run with the Workouts app just to be sure. I've been working to correct some heel strike and it's caused my cadence to go up. Part of me feels like this would require some recalibration. It would be great if someone could get a confirmation from Apple on whether 3rd party apps can also do the calibration.

The AW automatically recalibrates on any 20min outside run or walk. Only delete calibration data if you're having issues, but according to this answer from Apple, it only works with the Apple Workout app

Just bought the App and used a few times with the Ultra.
I've searched this thread and found a lot of answers to my questions.
Only one missing (apologies If this has already answered): is there a way to configure the screen of a running workout with just three fields (time, distance, average pace) ?
I've managed all the various options but cannot find a view with just three fields.

Thanks !
Lucio

No, that isn't one of the many screen layouts. The closest is either 3 big fields above 2 small fields, or 2 big fields above 2 small fields.

One question concerning STRYD (or foot pods in general) and the calibration factor:

I have my STRYD paired with WOD.
Then I select STRYD as source for pace / distance and enter my calibration factor.
But then I switch back the source for pace / distance to apple watch!

If I now select in a workout screen the data field "SENSOR PACE (CURRENT)" will WOD respect the entered calibration factor or will the data field show the original data directly from the sensor?

Why am I asking? Because I look for a workaround to get good stable instant pace during the workout from my STRYD, but I still want the recorded pace and distance to come from the apple watch system.

Thanks for clarification on this question :)

Sorry, no. If you do not have the Stryd set up to provide pace then the app will not try to get pace from it and that field will be blank. That's the theory at leat; I haven't tested it though.

If you are not happy with the current pace from Apple's pedometer then you could try switching the current pace to come from their Health system instead. This uses the new "running pace" metric in watchOS 9, which I assume is what their workout app now uses and may be better than that provided by the pedometer. If it does prove to be better then I will make it the default in the future, but at the moment I haven't had any feedback on whether people prefer it or not.

@cfc, have you considered perhaps setting up a donation fund specifically to purchase power sensors so you can debug how they do/don't work with your app? Might be worth considering?
