Apps can't control the GPS update frequency. They just ask for location updates and watchOS supplies them once a second.
Thanks. So it is always a callback from watchOS to app and no active querying by the apps?

So it could be the case for an interval length of 2 seconds (as stupid as that would be), that there is only one location update, depending on when the intervals starts?

Try rebooting the phone as well and then resending. If that doesn't work then watchOS or iOS have got seriously confused and you may need to unpair the watch from the phone and re-pair it.

However it is worth waiting a few hours before resorting to that because often the lack of communication is because another app is sending a very large data file and WOD has to wait.
Still not working, only waited one hour though... I have a AWU coming in tomorrow. I will see if it works when I set that watch up. Thanks for leading me in some possibly helpful direction :)

Yes, the results are returned in callbacks every second, in response to a single request by the app. The app can control the accuracy (WOD always requests the highest level) but not the frequency of the results.

The app uses interpolation to get the most accurate values but a 2 second interval would definitely cause accuracy issues.

I have to say I am very impressed with this app. Buy once, and all these features included. Nice! I especially enjoy the topographic map.

One thing I noticed however was that it tends to estimate calories a lot higher than Apples Workout app. Is there any reason for this? I tried to use the Cross Country Skiing, and also the Downhill Skiing (although those times I went Randonee Skiing, but I couldn't find that category)?

Glad you like the app. It uses Apple's workout system, so the calories are provided by that and should be identical to those calculate when you use Apple's Workout app.

I have a question regarding Strava export and cellular.

I went for a bike ride earlier this week and when I finished the app saved and did not export to Strava from my watch. Later when I opened WOD on my phone it did export to Strava.

I have a cellular Apple Watch with an active plan. Is there a way that the watch can export to Strava over cellular?

Thanks!

The app tries to upload to Strava from the watch at the end of the workout. However if that doesn't work then it will try again when you next open the app on the iPhone.

So my guess is that your watch didn't have a data connection at the end of the workout.

I had left my phone in the car and then when I finished the workout my phone would have theoretically been in range. Sounds like it was just a fluke then.
Thanks again!

Hi,

First of all congratulations for the best training application for apple watch.

I'm having some problems when I do interval training: I create a distance and rest interval that is repeated several times, when I run the distance the first time it counts down the meters traveled well, but when I take the rest and start the new distance interval sometimes doesn't start count the meters at initial of race interval, for example, I have a distance of 400 meters and when I had traveled 60-70 meters it began to count them, making this feature a bit unusable. This only happens sometimes and always happens after an interval break. I have the distance and pace configured with the GPS

Thanks!

I have never heard of that before. What metric are you looking at? Is it the Interval Distance or the Total Distance that is not updating at the start of an interval?

Please send me the wkt file for a workout that had the problem and I will take a look. To do this tap the Export button 3 times quickly and email it to info@workoutdoors.net.

Also, please reboot the watch before using the app again, in case watchOS has got confused. That often fixes strange problems which no-one else is having.

For years, a beep at my intervals has announced the next section. I've totally gotten used to it and there's really nothing better.

I tried to set something similar with WOD e.g. an announcement but the English mumbling is really incomprehensible inaudible during training.

Can you build in such a beep?

Look at the video with sound, then you know what is meant.

No-one has ever asked for that. I will add it to my list but it won't be high up it. Sorry.

They used no Garmin, thats the reason 😛

True point. The one thing I loved about my Garmins was the way to build structured workouts (also nested, hint to @cfc ) and how they are implemented on the watch with the countdowns before the next one started and also the alerts when out of target range.
No idea why no other vendor or app developer simply copied that, would be so easy. Maybe I have to start coding AW apps too.

It is the distance interval that is not updated at the start of the interval, I did not notice if it also happened in the total distance. This happens only sometimes, it's strange.

I restarted the clock since it happened to me once and it happened again.

I will send you two files, in the old one it happened several times and the most recent one happened once or twice.

Thanks!

I must be missing something here as I can set up a workout in WOD that has the countdown for each segment and out of range alerts. It seems way more customisable than my Garmin for getting them tuned exactly how I want. I have mine at the point where I don't even need to look at the watch at all during the workout as it tells me my target pace/ distance at the start of each interval (including the custom name I have given to it), it calls out the distance to go over the interval and will let me know if I'm out of range. For the floats it will give a countdown to the start of the next interval.

I was doing a fairly complicated fartlek the other day and it was only after I was done that I realised that I hadn't looked at the watch once because it kept me informed the whole way through. I do run with airpods so it is easy to understand the instructions as I run so might not be as good if you need to rely on the watch speaker.

I agree that the nested intervals would be great but I don't mind entering them in when I set up my sessions at the start of the week.

I would prefer beeps plus vibration to voice. Especially on short intervals.
Or did I miss a setting?

Also I liked the web interface of Garmin to create a workout. But no, I do not miss my Garmin watches.

Nested intervals are a pain to create by copying. And I like them a lot. Have tons of them available.
For me, the killer feature would be an expert mode that would allow to flexibly „program“ workouts in a restricted programming language. But that will stay a dream. Maybe an import function for workouts in JSON formats so I could generate the files easily would be a valid option.

But guess the reaction of @cfc will be: „nobody has ever asked for that“. ;-)

Hi, Are there news about two bike profiles (road and mtb) ? Or a configureable profil ?
I plan to add the ability to create custom activities that map to Apple's activities, so you could create Road Cycling and MTB activities that use Apple's Cycling activity behind the scenes.

This is quite a popular request and currently joint third on my to-do list (along with schedule importing), but behind the Always on Display and improved navigation. So it won't be added for a while. Sorry.
