Hi, quick question....I sync my walks and runs from WOD to the built in fitness app. Is there a way to show splits and heart rate zones for workouts recorded in WOD? At the moment if I record a walk or run in the default workout app I can see these metrics but if I record in WOD I cannot? Thanks

Unfortunately the Fitness app hasn't shown splits for workouts created by third party apps for a couple of years (since iOS 14).

Heart zones are new in iOS 16 / watchOS 9 but again Apple only show them for workouts created by their app. This is more understandable because apps such as WOD have had zones for years and Apple do not make zones available to 3rd party apps (yet) so they would be inconsistent. Maybe they will show them when they allow 3rd party apps to access the zone information.

However it's worth noting that you can see splits and zones in much more detail in the WOD iPhone app.

The shortcut gestures are only for use during a workout. I don't think anyone has ever asked for them to be usable outside of a workout and most of them don't make sense then. I don't have any plans to change that. Sorry.
Thanks. I think the only reason in this case is I’d imagine most people would want to start the route before starting the workout itself. I guess when you move the route option to the main menu or otherwise in a one click way that can be activated before the workout starts, then it obviates the need for a shortcut.

I agree. When the route selection becomes one of the ways to start a workout then it should make it easier.

Thanks, went for another run yesterday and loving the data in the WOD app. Exported to strava and the Fit file to Garmin too and can see splits there also.

RunGap somehow implemented the ability to have it display laps, not sure how.

Unrelated: Trying to recreate Peters Race Screen from Garmin world. It has a field called “perfect pace” which is just the pace that would need to be maintained for the remainder of the race to hit goal time. Is there a way to display a field like that in WOD?

I also have RunGap, was that workout recorded in WOD or another app? Anything I record on the watch seems to go to the fitness app automatically

Maybe Apple now require splits to be explicitly stored in some way. They never did in the past, and all other systems calculate them automatically, because it is easy to do. I will investigate one day.

I am getting close to finishing the initial coding. To 90% of people it would seem finished but there are several obscure features that need to be rewritten. There are a lot of features!

So I am currently testing every configuration option and re-implementing it in SwiftUI if necessary. Then I will release a beta version, which will need a LOT of testing. I am guessing this testing won't be finished by WWDC in early June so I will probably take into account whatever Apple announce when I decide on a release date to the App Store. Ideally the beta will work on the watchOS 10 beta, so I may have to make a few changes for that.

Are the navigation features include or only AOD?

At the WOD home screen I see 3 workout types - is there a way to reduce it to show 2 workout types as it's easier to press while I'm wearing gloves? I keep missing the right workout and would be easier with just 2 workout types showing taking up more of the screen.

Also, date of last workout is in MM/DD/YY format, but my phone is set to DD/MM/YY. How do I change this please?

This app is awesome, exactly what I was looking for, and has finally made my AW7 and now AWU the adventure watch I wanted. Thank you!!

Is there a way to turn on elevation labels for contour lines on the map? This would help a lot for navigating using the map.
If it were possible to change to feet that would be great too, but I can live with meters.

As @MaxSto says there are a couple of end detection alerts that may help: "Back to Start" and "Possibly Travelling Home".

By default they will warn you, and you can then decide if you should end the workout, but you can configure them to automatically end the workout.
Hello,
This is my first post here and I really want to thank Ian for this awesome app and his great effort without which an Apple Watch is just another gadget that cannot even come close to a Garmin watch.
Regarding the “Possibly Travelling Home” alert; I don’t know if it’s by design or if it’s a bug but the speed limit is not adjustable on the watch itself but it is on the iPhone.

You can reduce the number of activity types shown by using the Menus settings but the app does not make them bigger if only two are available. I may change that though as it sounds a good idea.

In terms of the date format being wrong I have never heard of that. What date format is your watch set to? I use DD/MM/YY and the last workouts use that format on my watch. To check go to Apple's Watch app on the iPhone and tap General and then Language & Region.

I may add elevation labels to contours in the future but it isn't high in my priorities. Labels use a lot of resources (surprisingly) and can clutter things on a small watch screen. Maybe one day though.

The speed seems editable to me. You may need to tap the box so that it has "focus" and the crown can then adjust it.

Glad you like the app!

Thanks for such a wonderful app. I have read through some old threads but wondered if you ever found a way to include the device name on the Strava uploads? Im guessing not.

Unfortunately not. I will keep revisiting it every year or so, but I am not optimistic.

Glad you like the app!

Hi @cfc, have you consider during rewriting user interface possibility to navigate without using touch screen?

With AWU having digital crown and action button would allow to navigate with disabled touch screen (your standard lock function, not water lock). Action button action could change depending on the context (on list it could confirm items selected by digital crown, on metrics screens it could bring up menu etc).

That would (at least for me) make navigation much easier when you wearing gloves in winter or when screen is all wet when you run in rain etc.

I have never really thought about that but it sounds a good idea if it is possible. However it may require a lot of rewriting of the user interface, which I have just done for the always on display, so I don't plan to look into it in the near future. Sorry.

Thanks, one for the backlog.

Regarding date format, Apple Watch app is configured to "Mirror my iPhone".

I look at Settings -> Language & Region on my iPhone and Region is US, Calendar Gregorian, Date Format DD/MM/YYYY. So definitely not mirrored on the watch or on AOD somehow.

Hi @cfc

First off thanks for creating such a wonderful app; it has been so helpful to train for my race.

You mentioned in this forum a while back that you were considering adding alerts for upcoming route POIs. Was that feature added, and if so, how do you enable it? I've added POIs to a gpx file (see attached) and see them in the loaded route, but didn't see an option to add notification alerts.

The app just asks watchOS to create the date string using the locale set for the watch, so maybe there is an issue with watchOS when using that format in the US. MM/DD/YY seems to be much more common there.

That will be part of the navigation improvements, which are currently top of my list after the always on display version has been released (although this could change as a result of announcements at WWDC).
