Didn’t find a way yet to efficiently check pace and distance with the watch while swimming (maybe Form goggles can help but didn’t try them yet, and for Open Water swimming don’t know if they have a way to check the correct path).
For biking AOD would be a great help, the glance needs to be very quick. WOD is the only app I use for cycling. It works perfectly but I find some limit on the watch-only use, a cycling computer maybe can give a better glance, but I don’t know personally other AW users that integrate AW and cycling computer.
The situation where WOD is really the perfect app is trail running/trekking.

Do you have a straight bar bike? I ride drop bar bikes and viewing the watch while AOD is active isn't possible, so I always have to raise my wrist. The same while hiking and walking. That's why for me, AOD isn't a big deal and I have a shortcut to automatically turn AOD off when Fitness focus is activated to save battery.

I use a Wahoo Roam bike computer alongside my AW with no problems. I sync my trainings afterwards with RunGap. Works like a charm.
Only using an AW for biking is too dangerous for me as it distracts me, especially when navigating. My eyes are not too good so I prefer a larger screen.

Maybe a good solution: With watchOS 10 you can mirror your AW training screens to a connected iPhone attached to your bike.

I use a Garmin edge 1040 with my AWU

Thank you all.

I use mainly a straight bar mountain bike. So I can give a quick twist keeping the hands on the bar and I can see the position and metrics. But a wider screen computer or a mirrored phone would be safer and easier to check I think, and I am planning a multi-day trip where battery life can be an issue.

I am mainly interested in Garmin because all my partners are on this universe. I also bought Garmin cadence & speed sensors, that pair smoothly with WOD after an initial setup thanks to Ian’s and Garmin’s kind & quick support.

But I read that GPS and detailed heart rate aren’t saved in Apple Health if I sync Garmin Connect, and I have to use an external heart rate monitor for heart rate. Is there anything I can do?

I have a bit of fear of keeping my iPhone on the bar, afraid of damaging it and I also like to snap pictures while cycling (I stop, not on the run!) and it would be harder to unlock the iPhone each time I guess.

Not sure what Garmin Connect Mobile app syncs to Apple Health, but with a tool like RunGap you should be able to pull the workouts out of Garmin and sync to Apple Health with all data.

WOD or AWU use for cycling? Not a good idea in my opinion.

Avert your eyes from the road while riding, turn your arm and look at the small display while racing along on gravel.
No way.

That's why I have a Wahoo Bolt v2 for my bikes.

I record the ride with WOD but never look at the AWU during the ride.

Do I have to use Workoutdoors with an Apple Watch? Can I strap my iPhone onto the handlebars of my bike and just use it with the screen on my iPhone?

Yes, you need an Apple Watch. At the moment WorkOutDoors is totally focussed on the Watch but in the future I plan to add the ability to show live information on the iPhone as well.

Apple have made it a lot easier to send the workout data to the iPhone in watchOS 10 / iOS 17, so it is higher on my To-Do list than in the past, but it is still not in my immediate plans. Sorry about that.

I have no issue looking at my watch while road cycling. I can understand gravel might be a bit different.
You are averting your eyes from the road while looking at the bolt as well.

Hy @cfc
I ve a second bike with a second cadence sensor. They are connected but when I start an activity, they don' t work.
When I had one, I didn' t have problem.
Do you know why I have this new problem?
Thanks

You can pair multiple cadence sensors but you need to specifically select the one that the app looks for. It doesn't search for all paired sensors so you will need to select the second cadence sensor in the app if that is the one that you want to use. I hope that explains it.

Any updates on a triathlon mode? I can imagine Watch OS 10 will make a triathlon seamless. With cycling power now in the native workout app and cycling metrics on the phone, one could perform an entire triathlon with the watch for swimming, biking (with phone as head unit complete with power and everything) and then running as well. The LTE on the watch also allows for a constant connection until back at the phone which would take over on the bike. Really cool stuff. Only thing missing is maps on the watch in the native workout app.

Multi-activity support is on my to-do list but surprisingly rarely requested, especially in comparison with always on display; navigation; etc. Sorry about that.

Ok Thanks but when I start an activity, I can’t choose the good sensor I need with my different bike. I don’t understand how I can do.

It is in the sensor settings. You can configure which of your paired sensors to use.

I have that. I want to use one by one with the good bike. I see they are paired but nothing happen after launching an activity. I no longer have the message with the auto start after connected. Do I need to unpair each Time ?
Thanks

In your screenshot you need to select one of the paired sensors in the "Source for each metric" section. When there is only one sensor for a metric then it'll automatically set the source to be that sensor, but when there are more than one then you must choose which to connect to.

When I next revisit the sensor functionality I may make it automatically look for both and connect to the first one that it finds.

Thanks, for the great app, cfc! You elevate the experience for us runners so much on AW, so keep up the good work!
Question, is there any way to configure a pace summary at the end of an interval similar to Garmin as part of the notification? So for example during a 8x800m, you see the notification about the next interval detail but add the pace summary of the previous interval.

At the moment the notification shown at the start of an interval is not configurable. It just describes the interval. A couple of people have asked for it to be configurable so it is on my to-do list but not high on the list.

In the meantime you could set up a different alert to tell you the metrics for the previous interval. For example you could use a Status alert and use the command shortcuts to associate it with the Shake gesture, so that you could see and/or hear whatever metrics you want whenever you shake your wrist.

Has anyone tried iOS 17 and watchOS 10? I'd like to know whether the bike computer live activity on the phone shows up when you start a workout using Workoutdoors.

Unfortunately not. It only works with the native app. However Apple have provided the ability for third party apps like WOD to more easily send the workout data from the watch to the iPhone. The apps still need to display the data though.

So mirroring the workout on the iPhone has risen slightly on my to-do list as a result of being easier to implement.

Ah that's too bad :( I want to keep using WOD, but the bike computer mode is really nice for road cycling. Hopefully you get to it soon!

Apologies if this has been covered before, but I set up Stryd with WOD this morning. Everything worked perfectly. At the end of my run, I couldn't find a way to sync to Stryd. RunGap only uses Stryd as a source. Is the only method exporting to .FIT using WOD then importing to Stryd through the web interface? I'm OK if it is. I just want to ensure I am not missing a trick. ;)
