Would it be possible to add an 'estimated time to start' based on the `direct distance to start (as the crow flies)` and maybe the average speed/pace?
It would be possible but probably not very useful in most cases because the route is rarely direct so a time estimate would often be very wrong. Sorry.

Checked the developer documentation and only see sync to the Apple workout app, no method to read from there.
I am hoping that the WorkoutPlan object in the new WorkoutKit framework will allow apps like WOD to read scheduled workouts (using ScheduledCompositions), but it isn't clear at the moment.

If it is possible then I will add the ability for the app to read schedules created by apps (such as Training Peaks).

I don't yet know how flexible Apple's custom workouts will be. For example I have held fire on reading them from FIT files because WOD does not yet support nested intervals, but on first glance I am not sure if Apple supports them either.

My first assessment of custom workouts is that I will wait and see what happens in September / October. If I am going to add the ability to read the custom workouts generated by other apps then it makes sense to wait until those apps are available and see what the workouts they create look like. And that probably won't be possible until iOS 17 / watchOS 10 are released and companies like TP can release their apps.

I tested with WOD (on watchOS10 dev1) and wasn't able to access the long press menu within a workout - might be something to fix there - obviously very early and the bug could be on Apple's end.
I haven't experienced that so it may be worth rebooting the watch to see if that helps.

EDIT: Scratch that, it has just started happening for me too. I was previously only seeing slow saving, but the long press not working is a showstopper, so it's probably best to avoid the watchOS 10 beta for now.

I think it is highly improbable that Apple will add reading functionality for workouts. But we will see.
Better way would be to integrate TrainingPeaks and FinalSurge via their APIs. Should not be too complicated.

Apple does not support nested intervals yet. Guess they won't in the future. Not a big deal for me. I am thinking about writing a basic workout designer app that allows for nested intervals (two levels are enough). No big deal to "flatten" the workouts to one level when syncing to Apple workouts.

Hello all,
What activity do you use for downhill Mountain biking ?
I don’t want register when I go up with the chairlift. With my Garmin I had a specific app but with the AppleWatch, I don’t know What to use. The only solution I have found is to do a manualy pause but It’s not great.
It’s possible with Wod ?
Thanks
It would be great but no one cares about us downhillers, unfortunately 🥲

@cfc appreciate everything you do! With all of these changes on the horizon, do you have feeling about when your next release might be?
The next release will be the Always on Display version. This will start full beta testing soon but it's hard to say when that will be released to the App Store because it depends on how the testing goes. It has required a complete rewrite of the user interface in Apple's latest coding language, so it will need a lot of testing.

Any chance you'd consider making the screen display configs shareable? Maybe just a `json` representation of the selected metrics for each screen? Would be nice to see what kind of screens others have come up with. Sometimes I feel like I'm not making the most of the app.

You can export and import screen configurations as files by going to the Settings tab on the iPhone app and tapping File Management.

Note the configurations are exported as a single Screens file (which stores the screen profiles, layouts, and text sizes), and multiple Profile files (which store the metrics stored in each position). You will need to export and import all these files in order to share screen configurations.

Hi, will the multisport training be available on WOD, or is it closed to 3rd party apps or out of your plans? On the second case, is there any news on WatchOS 10? Is there a workaround to have the maps and trails available and wrong path notifications, and the timing without having to stop the watch at each transition?

Hi all,

Over the last 2 weeks I realized a strange behavior of my AWU in conjunction with workoutdoors. When recording a GPS Track, it automatically builds tracks around buildings / alternative paths which is very strange. And also when entering the same area.

I have included a screenshot to illustrate what I mean. I only used the "straightaway" path back and forth which is also shown but on the first stretch the gps recording was really weired. Again.

Is this a known problem res. is this associated with the latest AWU update / AW firmware or a thing that is related to WOD (which I do not believe)?

Best regards,
Christian

Any way to configure the number of heart rate zones? My Wahoo bike computer has 5 and it would be nice to make WOD have the same, especially for the HR zones graph on the watch. Getting rid of zones 0 and 6, and making zone 1 start at 0 and zone 5 end at infinity would be perfect.

First time using the app. Went on my first run with it today but I’m having issues uploading it to strava.

From the watch it says ‘Error: Failed to create file ‘Sunday Morning Run.tcx’

Trying to upload from my iPhone it says ‘Unable to upload to strava because the workout is empty’

Any ideas what I’m doing wrong?

Multisport is on my list but surprisingly rarely requested, so not high on the list. Sorry about that.

Sorry - I don't understand your question about watchOS 10.

I haven't seen anything like that before. The app just uses the GPS positions sent to it. Maybe watchOS is doing something "clever" behind the scenes but it is not something I have seen before.

Not at the moment. Maybe one day but it isn't high on my list. Sorry about that.

The most common reason for that is if you have not given the app permission to see the location. To check this go to the Settings app on the iPhone and tap Privacy and then Location Services and then check that WorkOutDoors is set to "Whilst Using".

If it is not set then please enable this permission and then things should be fine for future workouts.

Another possibility is that you were using the outdoor running activity when indoors. If you were running indoors then make sure that you use the Indoor Running activity.

Also, it is best to use FIT files instead of TCX files, so it is probably worth switching back to FIT in the Export Options settings.

Thanks for this. I had it set to ‘always’ and have now changed it. It still won’t upload. Does this mean future workouts should be ok but this one won’t be able to be uploaded?

It was an outdoor run

Always should have been fine.

Please could you send me the wkt file for that workout and I will take a look. To do this tap the Export button 3 times quickly and email it to info@workoutdoors.net

Sorry - I don't understand your question about watchOS 10.

It was just a guess of mine that multisport was introduced as a training in WatchOS 9 just for the standard training app and third party apps could not use this type of training for their developments (For sure some workaround is possible since there is at least one app that introduced Triathlon and Multisport in AW before watchOS9)
So I was just asking if this was changing with WatchOS 10.
Thank you as usual.

Multisport was made available to third party apps in watchOS 9 but I didn't add it then because it was a lot of work for something that was relatively rarely requested.

However that may change in the future as I work through my to-do list.

Any update on beta testing for AOD? I know you have said “soon” but I’m sure some people would prefer to use it and live with some bugs…

Maybe I’m missing something but I’ve found AOD actually a worse experience for fitness apps that support it. First when cycling and hiking I always have to raise my wrist to view the watch so I never see the watch with AOD on. Second it takes longer to go from the AOD view to full on view than going from off to on. I have a shortcut when I start a workout to turn AOD off.

For me, it will be crucial for outdoor swimming. It is comical that the native workout doesn’t allow you to change to larger font, it is pretty much impossible to read in open water conditions through foggy goggles/reflections etc. For some reason Apple allow me to reduce the info to 2 metrics but keep the font the same with a blank screen for the rest of the space WTF!

WOD is great with a nice BIG font but to activate the display from a front crawl position requires a very awkward arm movement which completely stunts my swimming stroke and forward motion in the water.
