I’m getting a lot of “connection error” when trying to remove routes from watch.

Is there a reccomended sequence to getting this to work reliably?

Have you got the watch app running whilst trying to communicate with it? This can help. If that doesn't work then ensure that the phone and watch are communicating by WiFi or Bluetooth. If they are communicating then try rebooting the watch and the phone in case it is an iOS / watchOS issue. Good luck!

Reboot seems to fix it.

But what I’ve found is that if I run the watch app and SEND a route to the watch, I’m subsequently able to delete routes from watch successfully (even after multiple failures of deletion prior to sending a route).

Glad that it was fixed by a reboot. Unfortunately the communication between iOS and watchOS can be unreliable at times. It's usually fine but can sometimes get confused, which makes things difficult for us app developers!

Nice app man! I was thinking of getting the new Fenix 5 Plus for the offline maps, but it's starting to look like I won't be needing it :)

ps. +1 for Stryd. It would be cool for the more accurate distances/paces(/elevations?), especially when running in forests.

Thanks! Very glad to hear that you like the app. :)

More and more people are asking for Stryd, so I hope that Apple will add support for it, or I may need to start looking into doing it myself. In the meantime the Apple Watch is actually pretty good at handling poor GPS if the pedometer has been well calibrated.

+1 for Stryd. Since WorkOutDoors is the most professional looking activity app in the store, maybe Stryd could partner with you. They should sponsor the development work to add Stry pace+power into WOD app, which is clearly superior to their own app. I don’t think that Apple will add support for additional sensors at the SDK level.

I couldn't find an official way to connect to Stryd so I have emailed them to see if it is possible. I don't really want to connect to an unofficial interface because that can change at any time and I would potentially have to release a new version of WorkOutDoors whenever Stryd changed the way they connect. But if there is an unofficial but stable way to connect then that would be worth looking into.

I hope that Apple do add support for additional sensors. It is one of the few software areas where the Apple Watch loses out to the competition, so it makes sense for them to add it as soon as they can.

Yes, that's the reason I still have my Garmin, is for bike rides; I have the magnetless sensors for speed/cadence, and the AW won't connect. I would go to a bluetooth combo, or like the Wahoo sensors (ANT+/BT) sensors and sell the Garmin if the AW could connect to those.

The App ismoothrun can use Stryd with the Apple Watch.

Do you know if it works directly from the watch without the phone present, or if it requires the phone to talk to the footpod?

It will be interesting to see what Stryd say. I couldn't find anything for developers on their website but maybe I need to talk to them directly about it.

[doublepost=1545417710][/doublepost]I think you do Not Need the iPhone because it is Connected to the Apple Watch Directly.

In the Chapter of the METHODOLOGY he explanes that he Uses the stryd without iPhone.

Good to know. If it needed the phone then I probably wouldn't bother. However if it connects directly to the watch then it may be worth implementing if they offer an official interface.

It will be interesting to see what they say, although I'm not expecting to hear until the new year. I would imagine that they have better things to do on the last Friday before Christmas!

This is really an excellent app with almost everything one could wish for. The only small feature I am really missing is a way to activate waterproof mode to lock the screen when I go running in the rain. Swiping up from the bottom the normal way always puts the app in the background. I think the solution the native Workout app has for this is perfect and would be well worth copying some day.

This is on my To Do list. Thanks for the kind words about the app!

I am using "Running" activity. Usually it works, but I don't know what happened the last two times ...
I will try after a reboot to check if it helps.

Is there a history or something like that in the app? Just to see what happened last time you used it. I don`t use it but am interested in this ))

The app stores all the workouts in the iPhone app, where they can be analysed in great depth or exported to other systems such as Strava. The workouts are also stored in Apple's Health system for analysis by the Health and Activity apps, and by any 3rd party apps which access the workout data in the Health system.

Any plans to launch custom activities? For instance, I play a lot of beach volleyball, and I'm only really looking to track my time, heart rate, and calories.

I will be adding several indoor activity types in the next version, some of which only show the stats you mention. I am not planning to add specific custom activities like beach volleyball just yet, but some of these new indoor activities may be closer to activities like that than any of the current list of outdoor activities.

Thanks. It'd be cool if you could implement an "other" category just like Apple, and allow us to rename the activity afterwards. That way, it's easier to organize all the workouts. I wouldn't want to see a "Walk" when I was actually playing volleyball.

Love the app so far, bought it yesterday. Good work!

Many thanks for buying the app! You can rename the workout afterwards. You cannot change the icon or colour but you could at least describe it as a volleyball workout. However you are right that it would be good to specify more workout types, so I will look into that for the next version.

I ran with the app this morning but I have an issue ...
At the end of the workout, I have saved the run without visible issue but nothing appears in the Workoutdoors app on my iPhone, and I only have the summary of the workout (distance / time) in Apple Activity data. No GPS tracking, no map.
I use the last official release. Do you know what happened ? Do you want me to send some logs ?
This app is really great, but I have frequently such issues ...

Am I missing something when selecting “map only”?

Sometimes I seem to be able to scroll in and out and shift the map around which is handy for getting bearings back to car (especially like today at a race that finished a few hundred metres away from the start which totally confused me about where I was parked!)....but MOST of the time it just seems to throw up the map around me at default scale, I can’t zoom in or or out and can’t move it, which makes it pretty useless.

I don’t think I’m doing anything different in either case.

I have had this ONCE, I rebooted phone (possibly watch too) and then it appeared.

As @FunkyMagicUK says this is usually fixed by rebooting both devices, and if that doesn't work then uninstall the watch app (not the phone app), then reboot both devices, and then reinstall the watch app.

For some reason watchOS / iOS occasionally stop the app from sending files from the watch to the phone. I find that it happens during an install rather than it suddenly stopping working. I hope that Apple sort it out, but in the meantime a reboot and/or reinstall seems to fix it.

That is a bug. If the last viewed workout screen did not have a map then the next time you use map only mode then it thought there was no map and disabled any input. Sorry about that. I have now fixed it in the code so it will be ok in the next version.

I am amazed that no-one has spotted that before, especially given that the latest version has been out for a couple of months, but I guess that most people either use maps or they do not. It even more surprising that I hadn't spotted it because I have been testing indoor workouts for a while, none of which have maps on their customised screens.

Apologies again, and thanks for pointing it out!
