Sony Z series is awesome device
Shame it runs on android
Design suits me more than apple's but iOS is safer
So not buying sony

soulreaver99, if I dislike the size of the Note 3, would I also hate the Z2?

If I see the Note 3 as too big, would I feel the same with the Z2?

Note 3

BODY Dimensions 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm (5.95 x 3.12 x 0.33 in)
Weight 168 g (5.93 oz)
- S Pen stylus

Xperia Z2

BODY Dimensions 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm (5.78 x 2.89 x 0.32 in)
Weight 163 g (5.75 oz)

5 - 6 mm smaller height and length .... So basically imagine the Note 3 and shave 1/2 cm both dimensions and there you go.

I suspect it will likely still be too big.

Maybe hold out for an xperia Z2 compact

Thank you for those well written vicissitudes ... Your ability to structure a well defined argument is unparalleled ;) j/k

soulreaver99 have you checked if your Z2 has the overheating "issue" when recording 4K video for more than 5 minutes or so?

Just read the report about this. People complain the phone overheats when recording 4K video for long periods of time.

I think it's normal, since it's requires a lot of power coming from the processor.

Whoa, didn't notice that. But yes, I got a High Temperature Warning after recording at 3 minutes and the camera shuts down while recording at 4K.

:eek::eek:

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Was just warming to the device after the positive camera reviews.

Sonys response to it seems even more shocking 'only shoot for a minute'... How did that get past testing ?

Let us know if you can exchange etc..

Honestly, this doesn't really bother me.. 4K isn't that popular yet but it definitely will get there. 1080 is fine for now but I hope Sony fixes this because they advertise this feature a lot.

That's too bad. Only 3 minutes of 4K video recording and then the camera shuts down. I usually record 1080P videos of 10 minutes, so I wanted my next phone to have 4K but if I can't get past 3 minutes then it's a problem for me.

I don't think exchanging it would help. Maybe the processor is not powerful enough or the phone design is not good at dissipating the heat generated by the processor. This happens also with the G2.

Maybe a software fix to keep the processor cool or something like that.

This is probably a physical limitation with the current power of processors. 4K video is a LOT of data to push. Phones have no active heat dissipation (on top of that, they sit in a pocket much of the time).

The cat photos look very, very soft to me. it looks like there is some serious software blending going on all over that photo.

While I won't disagree with you as I honestly have no idea, are there any reports of similar problems the Note 3? It also has 4K video recording capabilities using a CPU that's actually a slight incremental step down from the Z2. I haven't used a Note 3 but also don't recall seeing reports of any widespread issues.

Never heard of the problem on the Note 3 either and never experienced it with the note 3.

The Z2 seems to be having a lot of manufacturing issues resulting in global delays and now this, like I say I'm sure Sony will fix the issue eventually but damage might have already been done by then which is a shame as it us indeed a lovely phone.

Have you try set the screen brightness to zero? I always did that with Skype etc because phones get more hot, you should give it a try while recording

First of all, to my best knowledge note 3 "only" records 4k @ 30 fps while z2 records 4k @ 60 fps. Second, reading XDA it appears note 3 has a 5 min limit (probably for same reason as z2).

Thanks for sharing that--personally haven't used it on either.

I'm not going to belittle anyone's desire to have the ability to record in 4K as that's clearly the direction we're headed, however what good is it if it's limited to to such a short duration? A bit of false advertising, IMO. If that was a feature that factored into my decision to choose one device over another, I'd be a bit perturbed.

@twintin. Thanks for the clarification :)

Not a big video user either, the lack of OIS just means we have super high resolution shaky cam footage these days from these handsets. Must admit I wasn't aware the note 3 limited it to 5mins, but then I only tried it a couple of times myself. I'm more for photos than video :)

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat???????

Didn't know about that! Thanks!

This reminds me of the old days, when Nokia devices had video limits.

Maybe it's because 4K takes a lot of space per second recorded?? I would think it's because of that. A 10 minute 4K video could take 10GB or more?

Gaps in the chasis and overheating?

The Xperia blog is reporting some user are having is with gap in the chassis and the glass. It seems that is the reason for the delays in releasing the Z2....
Then the over heating when recording the much hyped 4K video......its a shame to advertise the feature that you can only use for a few minutes.....
But the Z2 is not supposed to have the yellow tint the Z1 had.....

I don't have the gap issue :)

I do get an overheating after recording 3 minutes of 4K
but I don't really care about 4K at the moment as I have no issues with 1080 HD recording

No yellow tint problem :)

I am with you on the 4K video....it can't see myself really using it that much. It takes up too much space......
