Anyone else have any issues with the touchscreen not responding on the lock screen sometimes? Been happening on my Pro Max even though I have 14.2.1, which I believe fixed a similar issue on some Minis. It seems to be getting worse and today I couldn’t unlock my phone for a couple hours, even hard reset didn’t help. Then it randomly started working again. Good thing I already have a replacement on the way for the green tint. May have to go into an Apple Store tomorrow and try an in store exchange so this doesn’t happen while I’m out of town this weekend.

My 11Pro suddenly developed the flicker issue. I was concerned at the time but didn’t care enough to do anything about it. After a couple of months, it stopped doing it so I let it go.

Applying a color tint didn't destroy color accuracy for me. Did you actually try to match up your screen to a known good screen when adjusting color tint? And did you set the intensity to the lowest setting?

I purchased an i1Display Pro Plus and ran some tests to measure the effect of applying the color tint I posted earlier in the thread, and here are my results:

Default, no color tint applied, Night Mode off:
  • Max brightness: 825.1 cd/m²
  • Color temp: 6521K
  • Average ΔE: 0.99
  • Max ΔE: 2.03
Color tint applied, Night Mode off:
  • Max brightness: 669.7 cd/m²
  • Color temp: 8203K
  • Average ΔE: 1.17
  • Max ΔE: 3.21
Color tint applied, Night Mode on:
  • Max brightness: 630.8 cd/m²
  • Color temp: 6633K
  • Average ΔE: 1.26
  • Max ΔE: 3.7
As you can see, applying color tint and Night Mode did reduce max brightness quite a bit, but the 12 Pros have such high brightness to begin with that it's not a huge deal. It essentially reduced the brightness to the same as the regular iPhone 12, which have a max brightness of 625 cd/m². Although if you have a regular 12 or 12 Mini, the brightness might be reduced too much.

As for the color accuracy, it was reduced, but it's still very good even with the color tint and night mode applied. This will obviously depend on how you set the color tint slider. If you just blindly set it to something that you think looks good, it might make color accuracy a lot worse. I would recommend trying to match it to a phone or computer with a known good display.

Finally, we can see that it really is necessary to turn on Night Mode to a low setting if you apply a blueish color tint. With just the color tint alone and no Night Mode, the color temp was way too cool at 8203K. But with Night Mode, you could essentially bring it down to whatever you want.

Excellent, nice to see other people posting data. I copied the night mode and color tint settings someone posted earlier, which looked very good on my Mini. It looked fairly close to my other Apple screens (16" MBP, iPad 10.5" and iPhone XR). I'm not sure why my color accuracy results were worse, but I suspect it comes down to multiple factors like Displaycal settings and panel variation.

Either way though, this still shows color tinting and night mode is still a completely unacceptable solution. Nobody should settle and accept losing ~25% of brightness, on top of taking a hit to color accuracy to get rid of that yellow tint. It seems like good panels are out there based on some recent posts, so I'm going to wait and take full advantage of the extended returns period.

Adding another data point- I compared my launch day 12 PM to the display phones at Best Buy. Both had roughly the same degree of yellowness and both were dimmer than my phone.

That may be a product of them being at max brightness all the time.

The regular 12 on display was less yellow than my PM.

Just got my replaced iPhone 12 Pro Max. Still yellow tint.
Seems nearly all screens this year is significantly yellowish tint comparing with previous models, more or less. With my old phone traded in, I got no choice now.
I’ll probably stick with this one. hope for a software fix ( I know it’s not very possible )
lol except for the picture of the perfect 12 like 5 posts up from yours. I swear people not reading is my hell. Just in case you still don’t get it: accurate 12s exist. Get one.

I just had another delivery of the max today. It is in the middle of this picture. The previous max and mini are next to it. Not only is it not yellow. The screen pops and it is almost like the other Max’s screen is thicker and hence makes text look more washed out.

this is a TROLL. How do I know? a. He hasn’t responded to any questions from anyone. b. post history. And...here is the best...c. Time on phones. d. One good post out of 100 pages. e. Can be a good photoshop.

upload more pics/dates/first four,etc.

come on people, Russia trolls you all the time, don’t be naive with only 1 post.

I’m another one with screen issues, yes there is a yellow tint but the main point for me is that when compared next to other iPhones (at same settings, brightness levels etc) then the 12pro just looks more dull and not what you’d expect from a phone costing so much.

I’ve tried to read as much of the 106 pages as possible .... but in a summary what are peoples view for a solution? Any luck with Apple exchange?

Best thing to do is just return it until its fixed as its most likely hardware issues. Otherwise, if youre adamant about keeping, then you can do either the color filter or white filter fix. In terms of how apples has been handling it, well its been beet. However, in terms of exchanges and what not, Apple has been pretty good. If you bought it last November, I believe you have until the end of December to return it. I returned my 12 mini since the screen was terrible and I had already done a coubple exchanges, they were very reasonable about it.

I can’t help with yellow display issues. That’s luck. But if you have dull/dim/washed out issues:

Check the last few posts here:

Check the proof here:

Here’s the test:

Test to be done under below lighting conditions:

Artificial/Tube/LED light/Dark room/Not too much sunlight - (Indoors)

Autobrightness should be on/shouldn’t be turned off

Set brightness level manually to around 50%

Open Safari Google.com white background

Observe for 5-10 seconds

Turn off auto brightness

Again open same page on Safari Google.com

Wait 15-30 seconds

If brightness level increases a lot, ALS is defective. If brightness level stays same, phone is perfect.

Don’t do test at 100/0% brightness. Only middle level brightness. Don’t do test outside.

Please confirm receipt of this message.

Well I sent back my 12 mini today, I gave it some time and really liked everything except for that awful screen. No matter what setting / adjustments i felt it was playing with my eyes. Back to my trusty 8. I can’t believe how much better the screen is on a 3 plus year old phone.
It was defective.

Brightness issues are always all hardware/firmware (still unfixable for Apple). Apple can’t/won’t fix. Has been happening since X. Gets worse each year. Just swap the piece.

What's sad is that Apple can get away with this because most users don't even notice it. The bad units we return are probably checked and then go straight back to sales, hoping they find a user that don't notice the bad screen.

Famous youtube reviewers either get good units or are told by apple to not say anything about it.

Are issues like these common with other phone manufacturers?

Such issues to my knowledge aren’t common with any other manufacturer.
Yes, it’s sad.

I contacted the apple assistance number in Italy several times .. until a few days ago they told me that maybe my unit was faulty and that they knew nothing about it but today I asked again if this yellow tint was a problem or if it was a choice made by apple..thay told me that have received several reports about this problem and that apple is working on a solution

Yo, You are right.

I bought an iphone 11 PM 512GB from a guy that got the 12 PM 512GB instead.

Payed around 950$ for it and came with applecare+ until next year. Transferred to my name as well so i guess im covered with that.

I returned the 12 PM 128GB I bought at launch day. I know that 950$ seems a lot to you guys but here in Sweden the 12PM 128GB goes for around 1400$.. that is insane compared to the US but hey.. what can you do.. i saved a couple of hundred buying the 11 PM.

Anyway,

Here is the point:

The guy that bought the 12 PM i told him about the yellow tint and we checked it at his home. I had my 12 PM he had his 12PM and we had his old 11 PM. Indeed he had the yellow tint as well but he didn't mind it.

He said that he's going to sell the 12 PM next year and buy the new 13 anyway and he haven't noticed it being yellow.

Really nice guy and if it works for him, i'm happy for him. It didn't work for me with the yellow tint. I want to have correct color correction when/if i need to edit a photo on the go. Also i like my phone showing me white if it should be white and if i want to have a warmer screen i want the option to change that myself with truetone.

Anyway i'm not buying a premium phone and only be 90% satisfied with it.

I was happy with everything else on the phone but not going to pay top dollar to apple until they fix this issue. Even then i might just skip the 12 PM and wait for the 13 as i got applecare+ on this one for another year.

Did notice the smaller screen on the 11 PM, less heavy (I didn't mind the weight on the 12, i actually like that it felt more premium)

Just sad about it because i loved the 5/5s design.. but yeah.. There are people out there not even noticing the yellow tint.

Also when i returned it and told the apple employees here none of them heard of this issue.. they didn't know anything about warmer display or yellow tint / green. So I guess...

I returned my 12 PM yesterday.

Edit: I still follow this post because my mom still wants the biggest baddest iphone screen ever made, but she didn't want to shell out top $ if the yellow screen is what it supposed to be. So following up for her sake :)

My girlfriend has a 12 Normal, with a real black and a pure white.. no grey or green hue no flicker no yellow screen. But II have an iPhone 12 pro and a 12 pm with the same problem as most of you. I’m just wondering if this would be the most affected pro models?

What color are the phones ? i noticed that graphite colors are more affected than others

Good on you for returning it. In the EU you have a 2 year warranty for defects, so my plan is to wait until the new units have good screens, then go to a store and show them the difference with mine. This should fall under that warranty. If they disagree it will be my last iPhone.

Ive just had my 12 Pro Max PB processed for exchange. My carrier only allow retail box exchange within first 30 days after that they just leave us at the mercy of apple (for white box replacement). My biggest issue was flickering i could not stand that whilst watching movies. Fed up to the point where i stopped streaming stuff on my iPhone. Ive requested delivery in December hopefully they will have new stock by then. As things stand the full range of iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max range is on back order.

I had two 12 Pros in PB, both had the issue. I had the normal 12 with a perfect screen. I now have the 12 Pro Max in graphite and its like the PB Pros, maybe a little better. So can’t confirm that colors matter.

Early reports said LG would supply panels for iPhone 12 (20 millions). and Samsung the rest (60 millions).

Someone can pickup any of the new iPhone 12 series now? In a week? Stock is empty in every country.
Not sure if it is pandemic-related...I think its sometning else...
