On my 12P I did the screen color adjustments in settings and it has helped a lot. Thanks to those who suggested it!! It is a night and day difference.

We shouldn’t have to do this on a $1,000 iPhone but as long as I’m not seeing a strong tint of yellow, I’m content with the (temporary?) solution.

yes, even mine with a full black image/video has a kind of glow that I can clearly see in the pitch black... nothing tremendous but my old IP11 does not show anything similar.
The white’s are almost ok,that’s bother me but I don’t know if I want to change it again...

The best/easiest way to tell whether your screen is afflicted is to run a black screen test in a dark room and snap a pic of the screen with another iPhone that has night photo capabilities. Obviously not everyone has two iPhones laying around. But here’s a pic of my 12, taken with the mini that I returned.

I purchased my 12 Pro with Three mobile in the UK with delivery for the 11th of November. My screen is definitely a touch warmer than my XS screen but nothing horrible. I'm not sure I personally consider this a fault because the result is slightly more warm images with true tone on, which on balance I prefer. You only really notice that it's warm when placed side-by-side with the XS on the same settings where it suddenly appears warm. On its own it just looks 'normal' to my eyes.

However, upon reading a reddit thread about the flickering/raised blacks I had to investigate. My screen too suffers with failing to turn off the pixels at anything other than 100% or near 100% brightness in videos displaying true black. The result is flickering. I haven't tested it as much with still images but it's probably similar to that experienced on here.

I see that Apple have said that they hope to fix this with software updates, but I have a few questions. As someone in the UK buying through a carrier, if I wanted to get a replacement/fix under 12 month warranty do I contact Apple directly? Secondly, if this warmer display issue truly an 'issue' and is it actually more common to get one of these displays than one some here would consider better?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: please let me know if a phone on contract purchased through a carrier should be returned to Apple or the carrier. UK region.

My mobile phone is faulty, what can I do? (which.co.uk)

This article tells me to pursue any issues with the 'service provider' first, but is this unlikely to have good results compared to pursuing the warranty with Apple?

I was wondering all those members who had their devices returned with the intention of buying iPhone 12 series again in January or later date what if the Yellow tint still exist on your newly purchased iPhones.. What will you do then :D

Return that one too and go back to my XS Max. If Apple wants to charge a premium price for a phone they market as a premium product, they need to deliver premium quality to the customer.

Well here is the answer to this thread we’ve all been craving. Talking about the 12 Pro here, “The white balance for whites actually is a tad warmer than it should be with some clearly higher-than-average levels of red. Although the total average white balance over all levels lands in at an excellent 6502K, actual whites land in at 6372K. It’s not an issue, but a little less perfect than we had come to expect from iPhones.”

Oddly enough, colour temperature on the 12 behaved better than our 12 Pro sample. Average colour temperature landed in at 6520K while white landed in at 6462K, with less dominant reds than on the other phone.

Overall, the new iPhone 12 series continues Apple’s tradition of having amongst the best calibrated displays on the market. The 12 Pro seems to just shy away from the usual Apple perfection
Interesting that the 12 performed better overall. Is this fixable via software?

I doubt it but what do I know haha? Yes, in some ways the 12 is better and in others the 12 Pro is.

“We’re not exactly sure as to the actual manufacturing differences between the two panels, but one thing that I immediately noticed as being different between the two models is their viewing angles. The iPhone 12 showcased a larger off-axis brightness drop-off and what I would consider a more classical OLED off-axis colour tint, while the iPhone 12 Pro behaved significantly better with almost perfect off-axis brightness and colour performance. This points out to a quite different lamination process and maybe different polarisation layer between the two models.”

There’s also a 208 nit delta between the 12 and 12 Pro which I think is significant for direct sunlight readability.

I went to Costco this morning and made the mistake of comparing my 12 Pro Max to a 12 Pro that was on display using the same settings. Not only did the 12 Pro not have the yellow tint issue, it was brighter, had better contrast and more vibrant colors. What a disappointing customer experience is to play the iPhone display lottery.
Thank you for sharing your findings. Hopefully this will help stop clueless users arguing that this is intended by Apple, that this is the industry trend this year, blah, blah, blah.

How do you know the display model isn't the odd one out? Without any real data we don't know.

No,this is not a good panel
This clip is to show flicker

oh ok.

I tested 3 12PM and 12P and all the unit were affected.

honestly I think I will keep one with the best withes (the small is of my wife), the flicker doesn’t bother me and in happens only in very singular circumstances..

later I shot uo a video a pics

People, dont focus on the green glow on low brightness or flicker it will be resolved, focus on YELLOW SCREEN ISSUE, that is something Apple should be aware of!

I really doubt they can fix the yellow display through software. Any such update will destroy screens which aren’t currently yellow.

They won’t fix it with software... the only thing what I think they maybe will do, is to exchange the panels for future productions next year.

I’m willing to give Apple the opportunity to fix it but make no mistake if they don’t resolve this issue this iPhone goes back before the extended return period ends
Make no mistake this is not just a small problem. I’ve seen this issue reported in many other threads, Apple has acknowledged it as well

Where have they acknowledged yellow screen?

I will give them a second chance as well. And praying every day that they will fix it! I already miss my iPhone 12 PM (not the display!)

A little comparison. In my opinion v3 is slightly better. 11pm has a bit whiter screen, for what a picture may worth...

both have a very mild flickering grey with low brightness.

In the normal use the black are solid in both.

they look very similar. But most important thing is, if you like it. Without comparing it with other devices. Set dark mode on, go to macrumors site and decide wether you like the „grey“ or not...
