So my “express replacement” iPhone 12 is arriving tomorrow (Apple never fails to impress me), but I’ve been psyching myself out thinking, “What if it’s not really got a pink tint, what if I’ve just convinced myself it has?!”

So I thought to snap some photos on my Tab S7, just in case Apple questions it and tries to charge me for the replacement or something. 😰

Here’s a completely unedited one:

And here’s one where I’ve spliced the left and right sides of the screen together for easier comparison (but not edited anything else):

So, yeah, I guess I feel vindicated. Good to know I’m not crazy. 😂

(I know this isn’t strictly to do with the warm colour temperature issue, but it’s part of the broader “quality of the OLED panels” debate, so I’m posting it anyway.)
How was your replacement? I went through 2 12 Pro units with this issue, decided to switch to the Mini due to size and on my 2nd unit. All 4 have had this issue. Doubt I got 4 defective screens, just looking for one that isn’t too horrible noticeable. Was your replacement any better?

Ive had my replacement iPhone Pro Max delivered just now. Will setup after work.

S/N: G0QDQ Week 47
I’ve had two week 47’s. One had a bigger gap at the bottom of the screen between the screen and frame but perfect screen with no flashing on boot or playing a black video in a dark room.

The other had no gap issues but an uneven screen with the bottom left more yellow than the rest and a very slight pink hue all over.

So you could get lucky with this one.

Reports are already surfacing of a classic annual tradition in iPhone land - the dumping of yellow tinted reject screens on unsuspecting consumers.

This happens literally every year, since the iPhone 3G. Every. Year. without fail. Same tint. Same excuses from Apple apologists.

The fact is, not all iPhone 12 screens will be the same tint. Some will be more yellow/worse than others.

Weather or not you believe, as I do, that Apple intentionally relaxes tolerances to maximize yield for launch, here is what you can do:

The Test

The test is to open the Settings screen, with True Tone off, and dark mode off, 75% brightness. Compare to another phone on exact same settings. Which one is more yellow?

What to compare to

It probably already looks different than your old phone, which is why you are here. Something seems "off" about the new display. Compare to old phone. Yellow? Proceed to next step.

Compare to an Apple Display Phone

Use the same test criteria to compare to an Apple display phone. It either matches or it doesn't. If it doesn't, RETURN THE PHONE IMMEDIATELY.

Even the most blind Apple fanboi can admit - if it doesn't match the display phone, it must be defective.

The Kicker

On Launch day, some if not all Display phones will also be yellow. Invariably, within 4 days of launch, they will all be swapped for pristine, 100% non yellow phones. Swear to god as my witness. 100% chance they will be swapped.

If your yellow phone matches a display phone on day 1, wait a week. Then compare. Doesn't match? RETURN THE PHONE.

Only you can stop Apple from dumping low grade panels on the masses.

Thank you.

EDIT TO ADD:

Examples of good, non tinted screens have been showing up in the thread. Here is one that was recently posted:

All of these are iPhone 12's, and one of them has a screen that is displaying content as it should. This is not an intentional warming, a move to 6500k white point, glue, or any other myth. This is a physical yellow, green, or pink tint layer that distorts all colors, washes out text, reduces contrast, and looks terrible.

Also, don't post the color filters hack, it doesn't actually work. It puts a layer of color between you and the screen, reducing brightness, and distorting other colors. You shouldn't have to solve for a yellow tint, so just take the phone back - reject it.

Finally, Apple isn't calibrating these screens, the suppliers are. Apple tells the suppliers the tolerance range it will accept. Those seem to be extra loose this year. So send a message that you want good QC by sending your phone back.
My iPhone 12 pro also has the yellow display 🤦🏼‍♂️ (Left iPhone 12 pro / Right iPhone 11)

Now we have a gap between display and frame? GG.
I know you could see the stainless steel shiny through. Rang carrier and they issued replacement straight for delivery tomorrow. Even the courier who delivered the replacement today advised they've picking up so many iPhone returns.

I think it is absolutely software, you just have to do the test in a window very clearly and activate the TT, it is clear how the screen clears and becomes totally white and bright.

This shows with total veracity that in an update it could be solved if they adjust some type of parameter that allows adjusting the brightness of the screen.

I have noticed this too. The screen on my second 12 Pro is piss yellow in every condition, with night shift off and true tone either on or off. Its especially bad indoors with true tone on, but even with it off it is unacceptable yellow.

EXCEPT for outdoors in bright sunlight with true tone turned ON where the screen is perfectly white. Weird.

Actually it is good that display can be white and bright. Then it is easy fixable to BE like that!

Which phone manufacturer provides perfect phones? Buy one from them. Apple does not and never has, according to many of those writing here, and yet you go back year after year, looking to be dissapointed, repeatedly. Frustrated with Apple? Stop buying their products.

I hope you are ready because once you see it you cant un see it :|
Just the bottom. All other sides and corners are tight like a ahem :D

p.s I wasted my time installing clear skin and then discovered this lol.

So sorry to hear this. Exact same as mine, good screen but with a gap at the bottom. I could see inside of the game and the two metal prongs underneath. Dust was getting in there only after two days.

I just discover thanks to the forum that there’s a small gap between the glass and the frame.

my “best max” can be filled with a thin paper for the 50% of the frame, the other max and the pro for a 20/30%.

I can’t see inside, at least ...

i want to cry.

I will, ofc. And i hope all of you with problems will stop. It's enough.

They are all in - quantity before quality. Porsche does not have 10M cars a year. It's about quality.

"In the 2019 financial year, Porsche produced a total of 274,463 vehicles, representing an increase of roughly three percent"

You guys are just getting silly now. The glass doesn't seal around the outside edge of the glass. It seals on the back side of the glass on a lip around the inside of the body. So you can slip a piece of paper between the edge of the glass and the body? Who cares? You're talking a few thousandths of an inch. These are mass produced electronics, not precision machined. Your quest for perfection is going to drive you insane.

By the way, I just tried to slip some paper between the glass and body on my 12 Mini. Guess what? It slipped in. Whoopty freaking doo. I wouldn't have even noticed without reading what the scrutinizers on here are saying. Do some of you look over your phone with a microscope or something? It's a tool, not a piece of jewelry.

Yes u are right. But lets speak about "up to 6 meters for 30 mins" water resistant. If u see motherboard or frame inside your 1200 dollar phone, how u will stop water go inside? And then, Apple will refuse problem, bcs, water damage is not covered. They paid huge amout in Italy few days ago because they not recognize water damage: https://www.gsmarena.com/apple_gets...or_its_water_resistance_claims-news-46512.php

Enough?

I only used the paper to try make it more evident for the fellow member who asked. But yes i have an issue with gap as i can see stainless steel underneath shinning when using my phone or watching a video (with black border) in portrait mode especially the areas where two screws are.

😂 I read this and the first thing that came to mind was one of Jony Ive’s new iPhone intro videos that he used to do. I guess that now that he’s gone, the iPhone is no longer magical or special and we all need to quit complaining about yellow screens, an oled panel having issues showing true blacks, non responsive touch displays, gaps in the bezel, etc. and just be happy with your premium (in price) iPhone.
