Camera dust? I had no idea it was such a thing to get a - new - phone.. Frist time I buy it new for the full price and now 2 weeks struggling to get a normal looking device. Not fun. Lost of time. Will also return them and wait.

I can see now, knowing all this, that my old devices don’t look as good as I thought they do. Not knowing is far better than searching for perfection.

As I read about the effort and difficulties that many iPhone customers go through to get an acceptable display, I ask myself: what happened to the “it just works” philosophy at Apple?
It does 'work' for most people. The people in this thread represent a very tiny percentage of iPhone users.

As big as Apple is, any story is going to be covered. As huge as the iPhone is for Apple, if this was as big a problem as it is portrayed here, the media would be all over it. They're not because it is not.

I'm debating whether or not to just call it quits and either replace the battery on my XR or buy an 11 (which will probably be Apple's final LCD phone).

Apple called me back. The senior advisor told me that feedback from the engineers was that phones can be warmer or cooler, but its’ all within acceptable range/tolerance :)
Looks like the same script others have received.
And that if I don’t like it I can schedule an appointment and have it looked at by a Genius.

The advisor suggested a visit to the apple store. Also he recommended I return the phone to Vodafone if unhappy and try to buy another one and see if it’s any better, or otherwise I could keep my old phone. That was some interesting advice.

It is difficult to say how big the problem actually is. But, from my experience, it seems that Apple has been paying less attention to display quality. I tried upgrading to the 2020 iPad Pro and returned two units —one purchased from the Apple Online Store and the other from Costco —because their displays were less bright than that of my 2018 iPad Pro which I still have —the display is glorious. And, this is the second year in a row in which I encounter display issues on new iPhones. I hope to be a part of the “most people” group next year.

Apple is NOT going to fix the yellow tint through a software update. They can’t even if they wanted to. And if they do, they’ll ruin those screens that are currently perfect.

Exactly my same thinking. After noticing the white like most, I have Now also noticed that grey/yellow tinge with dark greys...

Doesn't Vodafone allows replacement just like EE. Ring them and explain the issue and also inform them Apple are aware and thats what they advised (go back to carrier and request a replacement)

For those checking serial numbers, do also try and check the panel model numbers too, whether G9N, G9P, GNQ etc.

Hi,

Apparently G9N has the best chance of receiving a good panel you can get of the bunch? I saw a YT video stating that G9N is the best panel without the green/yellow tint and is made by Samsung. They also said G9P is poor grade panel by Samsung. Not sure about the GNQ panel though mentioned in your post.

Video link regarding the good/bad panel lottery below.

Wow, I guess the G9N also has defective panels, but maybe fewer than the other ones. I and others seem to have good G9N panels, just lucky I guess. Maybe there should be a poll to help with the panel lottery so it can make it a little less stressful for everyone trying to get the best possible panel. Just my opinion of course.

Yes they will if they simply add more adjustments to allow people to fix their own.

As I mentioned in a prior post, look at how many different adjustments your TV has, because everyone has a preference as to how they want their TV screens to look.

If Apple adds color temp and other adjustments, along those lines, they will allow people to find their preferred look.

Apple doesn’t like extending too many customisable options. So I doubt they would do that.

Understood. My choice is to not play the game of changing devices.Given the money worth, Apple should deliver correct panels.

Recently got my 12PM a few days ago from a carrier. Noticed the whites had a sepia/yellow tint when compared to my XS. Screen overall also looked a bit more washed out. Turning off AB and maxing brightness resolved the issue a bit - the intensity of the brightness somewhat compensates. It definitely seems like there was some type of issue w display quality control or calibration.
Also, I’m seeing a lot of talk about G9N screens - mine is G6V. Does anyone have info on G6 and whether they’re supposed to be any good?

In my opinion, the colour tint trick in accessibility settings is inadequate, as you can only boost certain colours in a linear spectrum. If your display is lacking in both blue and red, you’re either gonna be boosting blue or red, not both, so the display still looks off. Not to mention the hit to brightness

I’m not familiar with G6V. Is that from the phone’s serial number or the displays’ serial number?

Sorry, guess I’m a noob w this. It’s the phone serial number (general>about>serial number). How can I find the display number?

If you have a PC you can use the program 3uTools. Connect your phone to the PC, run the app then select the "verification report" tab. If you have a Mac, follow the instructions in this video:
