I asked him if his iPhone looked yellow and he said, “It’s accurate to D65 white.”
It actually turns out that all the “yellow” screens are the good ones and people swapping for defective ones. Lol.

gotta say, after not worrying about screen calibration anymore, this is my favorite iPhone and I’ve had them all except the 3GS.

can you explain better? It is possible your eyes has been used to it but if you say that now compared to X it has been improved it’s something real.

you ordered 5 and choose the best one?
Yes. Ordered 5 brand new. Opened all up and picked the best one.

I had a 5s with a piss yellow screen and for 1.5 years I always saw the yellow. It just didn’t look right. However, with the 12 pro I don’t see that yellow anymore. Still looks “milky” white when brightness is up. 5s looked like crap at all brightness levels.

that said the 12 pro does look more yellowish at really low brightness. But I rarely use it when it’s at the lowest brightness.

Edit: my daughter now has the X. I just don’t look anymore. Lol. The X had the blue shift when I got it, but eventually that went away after many hours of use.

That is what I have been saying too. D65 is supposed to look warm and someone used to cool wrong color temp may say D65 looks yellow. Anyway from what I have seen is that these "yellow" screen are more uniform than the cooler ones like mine. So I doubt these bluish looking without TT or NS on (like mine is very cool blue/green then) are the "bad" ones.
I'd take even "yellow" screen any day instead of this I have now.

BTW. The guy in the video comparing it knows what he is talking about and has actually real tools to back up his claims.

It’s strange, I mean my iPhone 8 Plus for example or my iPad Pro seems to have more contrast display and in my iPhone 12 I have sort of a green glow at the edges of the display and notch, not so much on the center of the display but at the edges and it’s noticeable in grey backgrounds like in YouTube app which I use a lot. Also bottom of the screen is reddish/pinkish, but seems whiter(that issue or wherever it’s is not very noticeable so I’m kind of “okay” with that).

Btw I’m out of the 14 days range and all assistant has refused my to get it repair cause an update will fix those problems, even a familiar who is an Rosellimac engineer (Rosellimac is an official authorized store by Apple in my country) said to me that Apple has told him to refused iPhone 12 with this problems cause a next update will fix this.

These kind of issues are "normal" for OLED screens. You do not obviously own an OLED TV yet? You'll will painfully learn these are considered normal there. :)

They really think they can fix uniformity issues too like you described with yours? I really doubt that.
It is easy to fix overall white balance but to know how to change part of the screen while it is possible it is impossible to make if they are not equally wrong there all. This so called mura correction is something they should measure at the factory and make correction table individually for each panel. That way it is possible to fix typical OLED issues but I doubt it is possible otherwise.

Do you have a photo of your screen showing these issues?

Regardless non-uniformity I’m think it’s because of the cheap screen protector I have now on it but the glow green in edges is other story and of course the color screen calibration, I touch the filter colors and night shift and that green glow tint seem to almost disappear with some changes but i prefer to leave all of and hope they will fix this thing with an update. Btw I checked and don’t have raised black but it’s obviously that this thing will be fixed with an update cause it’s i think more widespread than the colors tint issue.

Have a try to speak to Apple after-sales support. I did this and convinced them to give me a refund this week when I bought my 12 Pro on launch day. I blamed it on the pandemic - amongst other things - and finally convinced them to give me my money back. Bought an 11 Pro that was on offer from a UK retailer and very happy with the outcome!

This 12 series really isn't worth the stress.

Thought i had a winner. No debris in the camera lens, screen wasn't too yellow. Yesterday found a tiny spec of dust underneath the glass on the front. For $1200 that's unacceptable.

I'm skipping the 12 series.

Once again

repeat of what’s in the OP

Not all 12s have the same calibration. Period. End of story. Proving one 12 is D65 Does not, I repeat NOT mean that ALL 12s are D65.

this thread is for those who got a panel with a relaxed tolerance range. Think of d65 as a bullseye in the middle and a range of phones in a circle around that in a dart board config.

the top half may be more yellow and the bottom more pink. Think of phones scattered all around the “dart board” and the further away from center the worse the color tint/deviation from d65.

that’s what this whole thread is about. People have compared these outlier phones to d65 and found them not to match.

cue people saying “well yeah there will be variance” - yeah no kidding welcome to the party pal, that’s what we’ve been saying this whole time. There is variance and if you get a phone that’s not near that center bullseye reject it.

this year seems to be an extra bad one with more relaxed tolerances (aka a bigger “dart board”) allowing for a much greater number of panels out of range.

the message to apple is clear - tighten up tolerance ranges so more phones are near that bullseye.

Two iPhone 12 same week fabrication, same panels all the same except for the screen calibration.

How does a user with no prior knowledge of D65 or any other calibration standard would know whether the screen is D65 🎯 or D50 or anything else, in my case I felt the screen was yellow “warmer” as soon as I unboxed my iPhone 12 Pro Max, went to the store to compare it and theirs looked the same too 🤷🏻‍♂️, would definitely return and ask for a refund if it would be considered as a defect but how can anyone without the right equipment can possibly conclude whether the screen is actually defective or not...

dear all,

after 3 iphone 12 pro max with yellow tint,
I decided to send back the one i had kept, i mean the 2nd one. the 3 rd one was from a retailer very new production but in line with the second one so I sent it back immediatly after tested.

So no more iphone pro 12 max for me, but not for the reason you think ...

I understood with time, I must admit, that my real big issue with this phone was the size.
I was really not confortable with it. Too big !!

For the yellow tint i had adjusted it from the color setting, and it was not so bad at the end.

For the green shift at angle ; galaxy S20, note 20, note 10, have it too, so .....
Nevertheless, I noticed that the new samsung S20 FE doesn't have the green shift.

I have hesitated to buy a Samsung, but no.............

I only had one Samsung after 10 years of iphone and it has been an awful expérience. in 6 month the S8 screen was burned, camera stoped working. After the SAV changed the screen, i have given it to my stepfather. Then i bought an iphone XR and was very happy with it for 2 years.

So not possible for me to go back to Samsung even if that was for me the only option possible to switch to an Android phone.

Today, I ordered a 12 pro classic.
Maybe will be a litlle less yellow, but sure i could handle it as i want.

The ones out of range are displeasing even to the untrained eye. Just doesn’t have that pop or wow factor. If people notice that, or feel like they aren’t impressed w the screen or don’t like using it, it’s probably out of tolerance. A d65 clear panel wouldn’t trigger that reaction.

IMHO people just expect that if it’s  it is perfect. Most of my friends and colleagues (>95%) who bought the 12 series didn’t notice the yellow screen until I told them to compare their whites with some other oled screen phones and then they all started crying ’yellow’

Based on everything in this thread, why would a 12 classic solve your problem? Seems to me like a waste of your time.

Picked up a regular 12 today and unfortunately it's still piss yellow. The other difference I noticed compared to the launch 12 Pro I got and returned is that there's a blue colour shift when the phone is tilted. The 12 Pro had no colour shift and the display was uniform. I gotta say I like the weight of the 12 a lot more, but I think I'm gonna give up at this point because of the display.
