No color filter truetone on and off. Yellow truetone comes out as pinkish in the image I'm affraid.
Basically typical of others.

I accidentally posted in the raised black threads for the below.

Reference image card #191919 . I just took some photos with no image optimization on, since I noticed that using that exaggerated the green tint issue. So pics attached is what I see with my eyes - near enough. Photos taken using variable display brightness levels, within a dark room. Subjects are iPhone 12PM and Note 20 Ultra. True tone and such turned off.
Similar to the difference between that colour being viewed on my 12 and Xr... only diff is that you are comparing two phones which both have OLED displays! So one would expect similar results on those two...

But did you check the color calibration of the Samsung ? The colors on my iPhone and my Samsung s10+ are not that different if the Samsung is put on « natural » color mode and not « vivid » !

Si :)

everyone seems to be concluding it’s normal, but when I contacted Apple to create a case (just to have a log to indicate the issue was reported), they immediately told me a replacement is the recommended option... no hesitation. Both agents.. one of the two read up some information and said “yes for these issues we are expected to replace them”. That doesn’t sound to me like the gap should be there...
That said, it could still happen that one sends it back, they check it and conclude “it’s within tolerance”.
Did you replace it? Let us know how it ends. Best luck!

What is this 191919 color supposed to look like at lowest brightness level? I did the video of black on lowest and my phone was completely black....this is different

Created an account just to add my thoughts to this discussion and would like to provide an argument against the folks here that still believe nothing is wrong with these displays.

There's a phenomenon called metameric failure which occurs on RGB and Pentile OLED Displays (not on WRGB OLED TV's). Metameric failure means a display will be perceived differently than how it's measured.

This basically means an OLED iPhone and an LCD iPhone that are both calibrated to D65 whitepoints will look different (the OLED will appear to be to warmer). So keeping that in mind and adding to that that these iPhone 12's are all measured to be below D65 (I've seen anything from 6200K to 6400K) it explains the extreme yellowish / greenish tint. I bought an iPhone 12 mini and it looks very greenish / yellow compared to every single other display I own.

From my experience this yellow tint has been present on every OLED iPhone since the XS. I don't really think the 12 mini I bought looks any worse than the 11 Pro's or XS's I've seen. Only the original X does not show this yellow tint from my experience.

Found an article on the Pixel 4 that mentions it. I'm clueless as to why other display reviewers don't mention this or seem to be aware of it at all. It also mentions a more accure whitepoint for OLED is D67.

Looks like yours have also darker bottom half of the screen. And different hue than other part.
How bad does your uniformity issue look in pure white image? Mine shows there too (at least for me a bit too much where it looks like bottom half is greenish/bluish and much darker than upper part that is pinkish and bright). Issue is very pronounced with lower screen brightness (or autobrightness setting indoors) but can be seen even with max. brightness.

I don’t think so they will fix the true black problem. It is there since release of the iPhone 12 lineup ...

Here’s my experience of the yellow screen.

I switched to iPhone 12 Pro Max from iPhone X about 3 weeks ago and immediately noticed the screen had an aggressive yellow tint - especially with the True Tone enabled. Additionally I spotted the raised blacks issue, though it doesn’t bother me much as I very rarely trigger an event where this issue occurs. Anyways, I came across this thread on doing a quick search and was happily surprised I’m not alone. The yellow tint was disappointing to see on a premium phone. I also heavily use MacBook Pro 2020 for work. It has a super crisp and a very color accurate display, as is the case with most Apple devices including my previous iPhone X, so using this yellow screen phone side by side with other devices stirs a negative emotion and resentment.

Gladly I had a couple of weeks off from work and took some time off from MacBook. Used my phone normally and extensively during this period without much side by side comparisons. I must admit I started loving it. The same screen that was displeasing by a mile started to appear crisp. It might be due to my eyes getting used to it, or I wasn’t comparing it with other devices, or a mix of both. I started enjoying other aspects of the phone. The camera is beyond impressive, HDR content plays really nice, the battery is very good and overall everything else feels great. The yellow tint sometimes does feel evident though but in certain light conditions such as indoors with low light setting during a day, or indoors with low florescent lighting at night, while it still looks just as good if not better in most other light conditions such as outdoors, brightly lit rooms, etc.

I’ll resume working from next week. I will most likely start noticing the difference between the two screens more then but so far I’ve adjusted to it (more or less). I compared my phone with another iPhone 12 Pro Max a week ago but both had very comparable displays (with True Tone both on and off). I will do another comparison next week with a different iPhone 12 Pro Max. If that one also seems very close to mine then I’ll just happily accept it and continue enjoying my phone. After all no matter how much I hate the yellow display I can’t do anything about it so might just swallow the bitter pill this time around and use the otherwise great phone :)

Yes good point, samsung has a terrible color calibration called vivid mode, it over saturates colors even when red green and blue and warmth slider is adjusted. I used natural mode on the samsung, which still, lets be honest is anything but natural.

Sounds about right. I remember making the mistake of returning my first 12 PM because the bottom part was slightly pink when viewing bright colors. Albeit I didn't get a chance to view dark colors on that to notice green tint or not, was returned within 24 hours.
Send me a test card of pure white and the settings and ambient lighting and I'll report back with my findings. Bear in mind some people don't see slight uniformity issues. So I'll try my best .

Can someone remind , is this call screen supposed to be pitch black background or not ?
Seems not to be and showing green tint.

Edit. Never mind , it uses the background color wallpaper being used in my case it’s supposed to be amoled pitch black, definitely not pitch black.

I don’t understand, isn’t returning a phone for issues like this indicative of mental health issues?

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t make fun of people for identifying and refusing to accept these issues while actively participating in the discussion AND doing the same thing - returning the phones.

My returns didn’t and wouldn’t reach double digits or near that.

Complete black.

I tested 5 dnqd screens. All perfect blacks. No flicker, no green, just perfect OLED. This is hardware not software. Get yourself a dnqd. I guarantee it will be perfect.

Well guess what, neither have mine. My max in any year has been 4 returns. So I guess you just had some bad info or made some bad assumptions, huh?

Also, you are not remotely qualified to diagnose anyone with mental health issues. Doesn't matter whats in "your book". If a person wants to return a phone 20 times, thats up to them and Apple to work out. You are in no position to judge that person, and your opinion of them means very very little.

Don’t tell me what position I’m in or not , I’m entitled to my opinion just like everyone else on this forum.

Pretty much sums up my experience too!

Guys please report apple support about the problem LEDs not fully turn off black with 100% black background.
Show them this picture. This should be 100% black (LEDs fully off) and not this green glow.
This happens on all 12 models ...

Is mid January and as I planned, I got a new 12 pro max.
Have to say the it has come with same yellow warm screen than all I tested in the past since launch day.
My conclusion after 6 new purchased 12 pro max and some more tested at stores is that most, if not every 12 series iPhone has this warm calibration. Statistically can’t be a coincidence, so I would not expect a cool white screen playing the lottery.
However, this new one has not the raised blacks problem. All the rest I tested had it. I’ll think if I will keep it or not.
That has been my experience after those months. Hope is helpful for other users.

Can you test this video in 100% black room with 50% brightness?

Which kw is your phone?
