🤔

Or maybe your eyes have adapted overtime to the display.

Can’t stand true (piss) tone, never use it on any of my devices.
Exactly this for me.
I’ve set a Color Filters on my mini, always use dark mode and forget about this thread months ago 😆
I no longer really see the issue, unless if I really looking into it.

True tone on the other hand, has also made me adapt to it both on my mini and my iPad Pro.
Feels too much blue going on when turn it off.

I tried the Filter with my current Mini which is a little to yellow to me. But auto brightness is very low in the 12 models and to me the filter is adding to it making the display even more dim. How to you adjust this? Just with increasing brightness or with the filter itself somehow?

Depends on how yellow your unit’s screen is, but this is my settings for the filters:

Adjusted based on my iPhone 6 screen as comparison.

Auto brightness on, true tone on (after filters being applied).
I never felt the filters making the screen dimmer.

I have almost the same setting. It feels dimmer when on, I have TT and NM off though. I don't know if it is the yellow adjusting to blue/white in that moment that makes if feel dimmer. But when outside in the sun it also feels dimmer with auto brightness on and with max brightness. It would be my choice too, I don't wanna swap the Mini again and again and again. They are just not good displays, annoying but actually a fact. But the lower brightness effect, esp in sunlight is a little annoying.

You would not notice the dimming as the phone is already doing it for you depending on the lighting conditions.

However If you run your screen at full brightness, you'll see how much it takes a hit.

Makes sense. But never the less, it doesn’t bother me. Both indoors or out in the sun.

But the fact remains that by using a color filter you do not get the brightness levels that you should be if the screens were simply calibrated neutrally and equally in the first place.

It's just a (rough) workaround that lowers the screens performance. Not a fix. I say "rough" because there is not even a numerical indicator on the hue slider to get it back where you want.

Yeah it is visibly darker with color filter turned on.

I just set the 3-klick-shortcut to color filters and I can turn it on or off so qickly that I will get used to it. But it is not a solution for sure. Apple or/and Samsung did some big failure here.

They have definitely changed True Tone!!

I used to have it off all the time, and every time it was turned on it altered the screen from yellow towards even stronger yellow, it was unbearable and just had to be off.

Have been testing it a bit now and True Tone DEFENITLY changes the screen towards blue. Its very obvious when having had True Tone on for some minutes then turning it off.

Whats funny is that turning on True Tone on all my other Apple devices moves the screen from blue towards yellow. Seems like they have finally tweaked the effect for the 12 (pro in my case). Wonder what took them so long.

It’s a subtle change in white balance but it helps tons.

So True Tone went from piss yellow to blue, interesting. 🤔

On my phone, yes. And it must be that way cause the screen is so yellow/green tinted in the first place.

I cannot understand that they haven’t seen this during testing.

Only tested this today and indoors in sunny conditions with no lamps on. Gotta see if the effect stands

Its still a bit wonky. If I totally cover the notch with a finger while turning on True Tone the TT effect and the screen becomes piss yellow like it used to be.

Have to turn TT on and off a couple of times without covering the notch for it to again move the screen into blue.

Edit* it moves towards blue by itself after some seconds.

This is a crucial point.
We all agree that the true tone is so aggressive: are you saying that they change it??
Are you talking about the beta?

The 14.5 should be relased in a couple of week during the apple event on march, 23rd.

Green tint gone for You? 🤨

I wouldn’t say the color tint is gone, it’s still there but it’s noticeably better with TT on.

Funny enough this only seem to work in ambient light/sunlight.

Moving into artificial light now and the display becomes very yellow with TT on. But perhaps that’s intentional.

Still a bit weird because the effect of TT moving the screen towards blue in ambient light means the display is capable of producing a neutral color. This indicates that the screen isn’t fundamentally broken, just weirdly calibrated.

I don’t understand why the display isn’t set to that blue color as default when TT is turned off.

Not asking about the yellow tint, the green tint is when blacks have a green tint to them on lower brightness levels, if you restart your iPhone you’ll notice a green tint just before it goes to the Home Screen.

Oh my Gosh.
You say "They have definitely changed True Tone!!" BUT the TT has always worked this way. Outdoor the TT shift the tint to a beatiful crisp neutral white, indoor it turns i the well known pissed yellow tint.

So your comment is totally misleading.
