On a private chat i have on whatsapp with other 12P/12PM users, a couple of guys reporting that the 14.5 beta 3 has improved the true tone, makin' it less aggressive in the indoor ambiet. Someone else had the same experience?

We’ve gone back to 13.5 🤔

People are seeing things, these displays are calibrated this way by apple intentionally, there is NO fix or change coming.

People should be turning their attention to the green tint issue instead of this.

In addition to the fact that the 12 series is intentionally a little warmer in color than before, there have been some cases of strange coloration within the same 12 series.

Agree, the greys can look a little yellow/green from time to time, hoping that is because of this green tint issue that apple is working on trying to fix.

Can anyone confirm the green tint "fix" in 14.5 beta 4 is better than what was implemented by Apple in 14.5 beta 3? Content creators are ambiguous comparing the 2 with this problem.

Update for iOS 14.5 beta 4.
I have been one who’s green tint and raised blacks were not resolved previously.

Green tint:
My green tint has been resolved as far as I can tell. In fact, now that it seems to be gone, I didn’t realize previously how much my screen was pushing green at all times. Now things are grey when they are supposed to be. Very pleased.

Raised Blacks:
Still persist.
1. Permanent raised blacks in the black bars when viewing a photo in the photos app.
2. As I’ve described before, there are temporary raised blacks in the black bars surrounding video content in most apps when summoning the UI overlay or touching the screen. I can see the black bars becoming raised temporarily, usually flashing in the same pattern each time the screen is touched and then it’s fades to true black. I will say since since my green tint is fixed the temporary raised blacks are less offensive.

I am new to OLED screens, what does raised blacks mean? as in lighting up and not staying off?

My 12 pro max was manufactured around the end of February, and the screen is noticeable less yellow, but has much worse screen uniformity compared to the one I had that was manufactured in early december. So yeah, kinda disappointed lol

I very recently had my iPhone 12 Mini replaced through AppleCare+ due to my yellowish display. I compared it to an iPhone XS and the iPhone XS was much more vibrant (True Tone turned off). I received my replacement and it is significantly better. Even with TT on, it still looks better than the previous iPhone 12 Mini I had.

I recommend reaching out to Apple and explaining this to them. It is a bit picky, but it didn’t take much effort to just explain that the representation of colors seemed washed and dull.

I put 14.5 Public Beta 4 (whatever the latest one is) on my phone and it's certainly nowhere near as yellow with true tone enabled. Without TT, the white point is certainly different to the one on my iPad Mini, but neither bother me. If anything, the iPad Mini looks slightly more red compared to the 12 Pro.

So, your saying the TT i s way less aggressive than before? in inddor ambient? This is not the first feedback i heard about it. So curious to try the beta!

It certainly appears that way. With TT enabled on both my iPad Mini 5 and iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone was considerably more yellow than the iPad before the 14.5 beta. The iPad still appears more blue than the iPhone, there's no doubt about that, but the iPhone is nowhere near as yellow as it was.

This is about what I expected Apple to do. With TT disabled, the iPad Mini is still more blue than the iPhone, but it may be that it's the colour that is off on the pad. I don't have the means to test this.

thank you, just tried to install the beta 4. In some ambient it seems improved, in other it's pissed yellow as before.

Have noticed any green tint or raised black issue with your device?

I think if Apple fix anything, it will be an over aggressive True Tone. It turns my screen much more yellow than TT does on my iPad 5 Mini when sat side by side. Without TT, I don’t find my screen to be too bad on my 12 Pro (week 1 21).

for a pro device, proper screen calibration by a user with Colorimeter would be nice, but I cannot see it happening. Datacolor used to have an iPad app that could calibrate the screen, but it was solely a picture viewer and the calibrated profile did not apply outside the app.

Exactly. If Apple would just enable custom color profiles on iOS like they have on macOS, then users could just use a colorimeter to get their screen exactly how they like it, and I think Apple could save themselves from having to deal with so many returns from people who are super particular about screen color temperature / calibration. Honestly, it needs to be a feature on iPad Pro if they're going to call that a pro device meant for content creators.

Hey guys, I can’t wait the official release so I installed the beta 4.

well, after 2 days of tests I can say the the true has definitely improved in the majority of condition.

it sucks when it comes to indoor ambient with poor lights, but in all other condition it’s way more aggressive.

Outdoor it performs even better than before.

How's beta 4 running? thinking of jumping on the beta train, apple is taking their sweet ass time releasing 14.5, like to see if it fixes my green tint display problem.

Been fine for me, but I've not really had a chance to push it hard. Only really used it with Carplay recently.

so far really fine. Smoother than before, face unlock seems to be more sensitive in distance (works better) and the true tone is less agressive. Can't evaluate the battery consumption.

Yeah... I just noticed the greys have a greenish tint around the lowest brightness setting, and the blacks are very slightly raised. Only if it’s pitch black around you, you’d barely see that light is coming out of the screen if you put up a black image. Weird thing is, it’s absolutely black when the display brightness is raised above 70 percent or so. Panel is G9Q btw
