Confirm iPhone 13 mini's also are quite uniformed from my experience, even smaller screens.

And fun fact: my replacement came in different packaging (with plastic tapes instead of paper ones), apparently if one reports an issue, sometimes they do an extra check to make sure the issue does not occur again with the replacement. And the serial number of the replacement starts with Q instead of M (Not sure how it works for yellow tint problem though...)
What’s the model number start with ? Q serial is a regular serial since mine is also Q.

Hey all, just joining in to the party because I found this thread xD

This was my first iPhone 12 Pro Max display (I haven't checked serial number unfortunately) - As you can see huuge vertical line of darker pixels. It was terrible and I have decided to go to authorized apple repair to get a new one on a warranty (we don't have official Apple Store here in Poland, only way to get warranty replacement is either call Apple and they send it to Germany/Czech or go to one of the apple authorized repair shops). First repair shop rejected my request, after waiting 2 weeks for just their analysys they said that "Apple Service Toolkit doesn't show anything bad about display" xD Yeah ofc it doesn't because somehow QC throw this garbage screen to the store, so why would it now show that it is faulty. Other repair shop thankfully replaced it in 2 days time (I would praise them that they are better, but wait for second part).

I was really happy that I will receive new display, two days later I've received that one - G9Q. When I first looked at it I thought that my bad luck is gone, then I've started scrolling stuff while in bed aaaand I've realized it's the same thing over again, but less visible and in different spot. Also gray is non-uniform, some areas are pink-ish some green-ish. The other problem is, that this display has muuuuuuuuch bigger problem with purple smearing - it's just terrible, red subpixels are appearing waaay before other, scrolling when background is black and content is gray is terrible, also this happens when watching HDR content, for example there is black background and moving gray stuff, or I should say gray and purple stuff xdd Also the display should be brand new - right? But the first day I've tried it I can see burn-in in place of battery, clock and home bar, have I received a refurbished screen? What the heck
IMG_0132.jpg

So what I've done? Ofc went back to apple authorized repair shop, I've shown them the photo you see, explained what's wrong, I gave them my iPhone, 2 days later got notification that "Apple Service Toolkit doesn't show any evidence for display issues", asked a guy from service why is that, when previously they replaced my screen - "we would pay as a company to replace that screen, as Apple policy is that we can get refund for replacement if toolkit shows that something is wrong".
So yeah, just called Apple, waiting for postman and I'm sending it to Germany/Czech Repulic, will not see my phone for 2 weeks probably. It's fun to live in 3rd world country (as viewed by Apple) xD The only upside for living here is that we get 2 year warranty by default on everything as it is EU law, but dealing with warranty stuff in stores here is always terrible, they treat you like you are someone who wants to rob their company, it's always funny to talk about this with friends from other countries, when they say "yeah I just went to the store, said whats wrong and received new device right away"

MAYBE THIS TIME WILL WORK

About the yelow screen issue,I've just discovered that resetting all settings the yelow tint disappeared and now the white is OK.

Sooooo, how are we feeling about the screens on the Iphone 13 minis? Saw a few mentions that it seems better than the 12 series.

Wanted to purchase a 12 mini last year, however the screens were so bad with a horrible green tint, that I went through 4 replacement units before giving up and going back to my 11 Pro.

Before I pull the trigger with this years mini, just wanted to get a general idea and see how it is this year. I generally don't mind "warmer" displays. What I don't wanna see is another pukefilled, greentinted display.

I just registered to tell you that im sooooo annoyed. I bought 13 Pro day 1, screen had pretty visible yellow discoloration in the middle that was maybe ugly but passable yet I really wanted bigger display so I returned it. Then i got 13 Pro Max Gold which was pretty good at off-axis and no yellow tint but it was even worse since it had green/red discoloration in the middle which is the worst IMO. So i returned it and waited for newest batch. Received today 13 Pro Max Graphite which has no discoloration but i need to look at it in very specific angle, if i tilt it even a hair the lower part of display gets strong blue hue/tint. Not acceptable for me in the phone so expensive but im just tired of returning them. Im so pissed bcos at the same time my girlfriend has Samsung 6.7" OLED phone and i see non of these issues there. Either Apple is not using Samsung displays but some kind of LG **** or Samsung is selling Apple subpar batches.

Is there a realistic chance that Apple will fix the yellow display problem with an iOS update? After DXOMark named the problem with the iPhone 13 Mini test and gave it bad marks, Apple should definitely know about it now.

That website and their opinions lost its integrity with me many years ago. When it gave superb marks for inferior panels being churned out by OEMs. Here’s a nice current example. They appear to lie or write what they think people want to hear and not what they actually see. I’m also not going to believe anyone that tells me they received a unicorn for review. If they were a credible source they’d use more than one unit for analysis.

13 mini vs 12 pro

ignore rainbow effect on off axis 12 pro, has glass tempered protector over it

is this just par for the course on 13 mini, really warm off axis and warmer display generally than 12 pro ?

my 12 pro is a goldilocks, and not sure it matters but from Serial # looking its a Samsung, but my first 13 mini was horrid multi tint crap. I couldn't even test drive the device it was that distracting. no idea who makes this one.

the camera doesnt pick up as much on the 13 being much warmer straight on but it is, but it really shows the warm on the off axis shots.

last photo both at about 80% auto with light on

True Tone was really yellow on the 13 mini

I returned it, im too picky. It was just too warm to my eyes even straight on, the camera didnt represent it all that well

MUCH better than the first I tried but I think im throwing in the towel and riding out the 12 pro

You know that issue where the display shifts color like a rainbow with minimal off axis movements? Had two Samsungs doing the same thing. Drove me nuts. First was as s21 ultra and one S20 FE 5G device. We’re both aware that color shift off axis is relatively normal but not at tiny angles like some panels exhibited on my Samsung devices.

yeah I know exactly what ya mean, thats no good .

I hate low viewing angle OLED's that shift like that. That wasn't this, but still wasn't up to snuff for me

and still too warm straight on is the main thing but it was a nice phone and I see why people are drawn to it

Ok guys, I finally got OK display, it is not 100% perfect but it's muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better than the 2 previous ones. All it took was sending it to another country xd It's still showing as G9Q (not sure if it matters now anyways) Gray uniformity in that one:
IMG_0182.jpg

Left siide is noticably darker than other parts of screen, but it's gradient, and not just straight line like in previous screens, so let's say it's acceptable.

I just realized that the off-axis rainbow effect I am getting is probably due to the glass screen protector on my 13 Pro Max. Thank you for pointing that out. All this time I have been blaming the OLED panel for the rainbow effect. ?

I mean , with losing panel lottery, always possible but yeah tempered glass protector will always do that to some degree

Let’s not confuse the rainbow effect of the screen protector for off axis color shift. Now 😂👍🏼

Yea, looks like a defective screen for your 13 mini. I got a 12 mini last year and it looked just like your 13 mini. My 13 mini this year looks like your 12 pro. I would return the the 13 mini.

I bought the 13 Mini on sale, not as much savings as I would have hoped with between 90-130€, but because of chip shortage etc it is even a wonder to get it on sale at all. Now I got two 13 Mini because I bought one a long time ago on sale not in stock and it shipped the day my newly ordered iPhone 13 Mini shipped too. :-(

The one is a pink 13 Mini 512GB, the other a 256GB white 13 Mini. And I chose the pink one even thought I don't need that much storage. Because of display quality. It is still crazy how different it is inside a line up. My 13 Mini 512GB has a way better display quality. Especially when comparing it to my other 12 Mini and 13 Mini when shifting the device you see the difference. It has more contrast but most of all is way cooler, a little reddish tint but just a little. It also has much less color shifting when tilted.
The other 256GB 13 Mini is WAY more yellow and has this infamous yellow tint. You see it in normal handling but more than that when shifting it to the right or left. The 256GB one gets more and more yellow the more you shift it. Weird, it was a blue tint shift on the 12 line. It is a night and day difference. My old 12 Mini has the worst display compared as it seems of low quality in general when compared. It has less contrast, yellowish tint like the 256GB 13 Mini and in general you can see that it has a worth quality than both 13 Mini displays. And I tried 5 12 Minis back then in several months before getting this device which had betterd isplay than the others.
So display quality difference is still there. I really was shocked how different those displays are. Thought they would have worked on it. So happy with the 512GB display. Is it a coincidence that the most expensive model with 512GB has the best display? It costs me 260€ more than the 256GB device but the display is what I look at all day so I chose the 512GB, also because I wanted a new color...
