There's a lot to read through here. I'm sorry to ask about information that's been repeated, but I see mentions of finding a serial number of the OLED. How does one do that?

And it seems like it's a bit of a lottery with a replacement so I'm not sure about doing that.

Also, can anyone else tell me if it's a common experience for the color to appear normal (less yellow) when viewed from a steep angle? I feel like if it looked the way it does from an angle, it would be correct.

I've found this rather late. I purchased my first iPhone since the iPhone 7, and this time I got an iPhone 13 mini 256 GB.

The display is ---well, very yellow. Even in dark mode, the darkness takes on a color I would describe as latte maybe. Turning on True Tone is like having Night Shift on, and Night Shift is . . . well even more so. I'm past the 14 day return period. I hadn't opened it right away and had never heard of this issue before. I don't have another iPhone to compare to except my iPhone 7 which looks brighter and much more of a clean white despite its age. My Apple Watch Series 7 looks brighter and much more white than either of them. It's a perfect looking display to me. I assume having it replaced under warranty--if they even did agree to--would mean a refurbished phone? And it might not be any better. I honestly don't mind it that much, but I find it very distracting every time I look at it. I have an urge to "clean" it--it looks sort of like my display is behind a layer of smog.

Edit: I do also have an iPad to compare it to, which also is comparably very white--it's an old entry level iPad.

Edit 2: I forgot to add, I have seen this on OLEDs of pulse oximeters before, but it's as they age. I assume maybe my display was really old, but seeing these other posts, it seems that's not the issue. But that's what it looks like.

Edit 3: Playing with it more: It looks like a clean normal white color from very steep angles, and then facing it again it switches back to looking what I would describe as sometimes yellow sometimes rosy colored.
I believe that what you are experiencing is entirely normal. The 13 Mini may have a slightly improved OLED over the 12 Mini but it is still unable to display perfect whites. My 12 Mini has a very obvious yellow hue when displaying whites and it has been like that since Day 1. I would suggest that you simply ignore it as it isn’t really a problem or a defect as coloured images are displayed perfectly on the screen. I certainly would not exchange the device for another as the chances are you’ll end up with the exact same issue and you may end up with a device with an actual problem. If you aren’t happy with your 13 Mini and wish to return it, you should wait for the 14 or move to another brand all together.

If you’re not happy with that display, each day you let it pass is going to make more difficult the return/exchange, if they decide to accept it out of the return window.
As for your question, it depends on the iPhone, it depends on the panel lottery. Some are more yellow like you said, and when you look at them are more pure white. Others have the opposite issue, they look pure white, but as soon as you view them from an angle, the color shifts to blue. So yeah, it’s pretty annoying anyways.

Apple gave me another 14 day return period and I purchased another to compare with and will see which is better, but I read a tip earlier in this thread on force restarting and it does seem better now. I don't know if it's a placebo effect, but I really do think it looks better since the force restart--I hadn't restarted the phone at all since I got it. I have it in dark mode and the settings app for example still looks like more of a clean grey from the side than face on, but it's a much more subtle difference. And the white test page looks clean and bright to me now, but I will have to wait to compare to a friend's phone which I had done before and taken photographs of to see if there is a difference objectively. When it was starting up from the force restart the white Apple logo did sort of flash and change colors at one point.

Edit: Also strangely logged me out of iMessage and deactivated it all together--I had to reactivate it, and it turned on parallax of icons--which hadn't been there since I set up the phone--I figured that feature had been removed from iOS since it wasn't there (and I hadn't turned motion off). Feels like it's going to be more difficult to compare now. It seems like it did change a good bit.

Edit 2: It was a placebo effect. Force restarting did not change the display tint. I took side by side pictures with a Pixel 6a before and after, and there was no change.

Any information about the panel manufacturer of the new iPhone 14? i'd like to upgrade, but thinking about the lottery make me want to give it up. Last round it took 4 try to pick the good one.

Just dropping by to say my 14 Pro Max has a superb display, as did my 13 Pro.

The absence of activity in this thread lately seems to suggest the 12 series were just a real duffer display wise.

Buy a 14 Pro with confidence I reckon.

Hopefully lots of people got good ones

So should 12 owners be expecting display replacement service??

Whilst the white point is really good with True Tone off, True Tone seems to be veeeeery erratic and all over the place on my 14 Pro Vs my 13 Pro, in much the way it was on the 12.

So mostly great and I hope True Tone might settle down.

I just returned mine. Poor screen uniformity and camera dust

Got my 14 Pro Max on launch day, returning tomorrow. Screen white point is way off. Yellow and green tint compared to other iPhone and Macbooks that I own.

The fact that we haven’t had more posts yet is a promising sign that the yellow tint issue for the new Pros will be a more of an isolated issue.

I received my 14 Pro last night and immediately was stricken by how yellow the screen is. It's awful and very noticeable compared with my 11 I'm upgrading from. I turned off the True Tone, etc., and that didn't help.

I spent some time working on it with Apple support and they made me an appointment to swap the phone on Monday. Hopefully that will get me a good phone. But if all the new screens are like this I'm going to stick with my 11.

Apple support seemed to know exactly what I was talking about and made no fuss of it at all.

Most important line. “… compared to my 11..”. I guess you missed the memo.

The memo was iPhone 12 Pro /max and greater devices are more yellower than the 11 and 10 series. It’s all normal. But obviously a shock to those that come from a X or 11 to 14. It’ll be a blow 😂🤣
Is there a reason for this? It's intentional? I was pretty shocked to discover this thread! But it's way too long for me to try and catch up on it now...

In all honesty I don’t know the reason to this. It could be reduced OLED blue light filters during manufacturing by Samsung Electronics. That’s what my research has concluded.I’m referring it True Tone also being turned off in all case comparison scenarios.
