I think I lucked out. I purchased the 2.3ghz/16gb/512SSD config equipped with a Samsung screen with no IR and excellent uniformity (no yellow tint).

When you look at the boxes where user posts are, what color is it? (gray, beige, or gray w/superslight beige)

Another data point...

I a few days ago got a 15" retina and it has the samsung display and SSD. As far as I can tell it's perfect. The screen is a bit "warmer" than some other screens, but it's not yellow. The uniformity is as good as I've ever seen in a LCD (which is never absolutely perfect).

What a lot of people here may not realize is that the color temperature of white is flexible because your eyes will adapt. Next to a "warm" white color temperature screen a "cold" screen will look blue-er which some people will call "white-er," but technically it's not.

6500K is the "correct" white color temperature for NTSC which will look "warm" compared to 8000K (or whatever) which is blue-er. A lot of TVs in the store will be set to max brightness mode which will have a high color temperature because people like the brightness POP, but when you calibrate the same set correctly, you'll end up having a warmer picture. For photographers and people who do printing, the calibrated white is probably on the warm side.

So if you're comparing a "blue" lenovo screen to the "yellow" it's probably not a problem in either screen just a difference in priorities for the two manufacturers.

Interestingly, im guessing Quu hasn't owned other Apple products that are "cooler". On devices like the Macbook Air, the sections where your post and others are written into, they look more gray, and practically no beige.

On "warm" screens or more "yellowish" screens, the posts appear to be more slightly beige and it becomes more pronounced. If you consider normal to not have any yellow, like the Macbook Air, then you should expect "gray" with practically no obvious beige.

Oh I have. Powerbook, iBook, three MacBook Pros, three iPhones, two iPads.

Yes I'd say it's more gray than beige, I'm not an expert on saying what colour things are :D

Lets just all pick a place to get together in the UK or USA and everyone can just compare screens with each other. That would make checking these things so much simpler. lKeithStone has to be there with his perfect Samsung display.

My replacement is coming tomorrow I can't wait to see it. I received an iPad Air today and it's perfect. Perfect whites, no yellow at all anywhere, completely uniform. If only the Retina MacBook Pro's were like that!

Yes!!!!!! iPad Air display would be the perfect display. If your replacement that comes in tomorrow has a display like the iPad Air without difference/warmness, etc. that would give me hope.

I noticed the iPad Air display is the exact same as the Macbook Air display. I really don't wait to wait for a Retina Macbook Pro Air...

Just got off the phone after an hour long conversation with Apple. I told them I've gone through three replacements, and that this was the last straw.

They are sending me another replacement direct from china.

It is going to be specially checked before hand to ensure there are no yellow blotches on the screen.

I can keep my current computer until it arrives.

My advice is for everyone who is getting screens with uneven temperature/yellow blotches/whatever to call apple and complain.

I'll update you when the replacement comes.

I am sorry for your experience, but I am glad that Apple is taking you seriously this time around (although they should have done so from the start). Hopefully the person checking your computer's screen does not have eyesight issues  Just kidding, it should probably be fine this time around!

Hope the replacements of us others here will be so as well. Ours aren't getting the special treatment

----------

Still yellow tone but there are no yellow spots as with my first machine.

I can post some pics later..I really like it.

Good to hear that you are happy with your new machine. How bad is the yellow tone? Have you tried increasing the white point of the display? Pictures could be helpful, feel free to share.

My screen looks like this too. Is this really a perfect screen of the rMBP Haswell?

I'm still debating about whether to send it back for a replacement or keep it. If this is considered a great screen, I'm not going to get a better screen then this?

Why on earth would you send it back and risk getting a yellowish unit? Mine looks perfect in my eyes. Mine is bright cool white with perfect uniformity - If you can't say the same about yours then maybe it isn't perfect?

Haha I'm sure there are several others that have perfect displays as well. You will mainly hear about the bad displays on MR. Go to an Apple Store - Find one you like with a great display, and buy it - it's that simple, unless of course you are getting a BTO model.

http://www.macmall.com/p/Apple-MacBook-Pro/product~dpno~9824803~pdp.ieeaehi

how knows if they send me a 1st "releases" or a "fixed" machine... I really why apple dont say anything when problems like this happens... for me is like liar to the customers, bad! for the money we expect a really great machine with now issues... ok I understand that some are not work for some problem but that errors in colors are from fabric, they know that happens and apple sells of that way, very bad.

so I dont know if wait or buy now... if wait how many time, 3 months!

so this whole thing tint problem... you say that is easy fix with just calibrating?

your monitor brand is?

What he is saying is, if you have an even tint, meaning the whole screen is uniform but yellow you can easily calibrate it to be more white. But however if you have half the screen that is white and half that is yellow you can never calibrate that because calibration doesn't work in gradients it has to affect the entire display.

His replacement model had an even tint meaning it was yellow over the whole thing thus he was able to calibrate it to be more white.

I agree, I think this is not a easy to fix thing with just calibrating, how can calibrate a thing that have gradients, so bad apple!
