I would not have noticed the difference between LG vs. Samsung if I didn't order the 2 machines.

Same here, once you live with these screens and not just see them in the apple store, it is Obvious that LG fixed the problems from its last generations. The whites are so much better!

Well I received my Retina MacBook Pro this morning and sadly it also has the yellow tint and this one is even worse than my original one. Exactly the same situation as before with regards to placement though, extending outwards from the bottom right of the display to the centre.

This is my first replacement machine. I'm going to call them now and get yet another replacement.

So angry.

EDIT:// Tested with the console command, this one is a Samsung display. My last one was an LG display. So different screens entirely yet same problem. I think it is obvious by now that the issue is either in the backlight used or the bonding material between the front glass and the circuitry of the display panel. The yellow doesn't go away regardless of angle it just changes colour slightly (as does the rest of the display).

so bad! :( sorry for you; I still waiting to buy it until apple or somebody say something about it, I cant return it so I need a "perfect" buy.

anybody can make a youtube video with this issue? or exist? any link?

by the way, on the 15inch model this is the only issue that people talk? and of course this is NOT an software issue? is hardware

I hope apple read this forum!

i just came back from our local Apple store and i checked 6 MBP Retina 15".
Every Display i checked (with the "imac-test", itunes "blue-line-view", or with a Finder-windows) showed some yellow discoloration - mostly at the bottom area and corners. There was no unit completely uniform.
Here i saw that my own Display is "playing" in the better 33%-league and a replacement could end in a "display-lottery-disaster"
So i decided to enjoy the power of this new machine and not spending my time in opening and repacking ;)
because i do not want to end in this situation "pleas give me my first "try" back - it was the best"

This is terrible. I so badly want one of these computers but if my next one is bad I'm just getting a refund and I'll wait until they switch to IGZO or something.

Really disappointing.

Yeah, that sucks.

Mine arrives tomorrow. I originally hoped the BTO machines might be subject to slightly more stringent QC, but that's obviously not the case. Guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed like everyone else...

That said, if my first machine isn't perfect, I think I might just accept that as a sign that Haswell and I weren't meant to be... I'll spring for a base 2012 refurb (or a used machine) instead and put the money aside for next year.

The overriding theme here seems to be that we're a long way from the glory days of Apple's bomb-proof PPC machines. Bummer.

IGZO isn't the be all and end all. It too has its own issues. Just visit the iPad sub forum and see the massive thread there called "Air Screen Defect"

Same result at the Apple store in my location. Although I've never seen a perfectly-uniform display in terms of color or brightness from any manufacturer, these are especially bad. I won't buy one of these.

Strangely, when I checked the previous retina models still on display at the campus bookstore, they are significantly better. The 15" has the best display I've seen on any Apple product. I would gladly spend my money if I could get one of those displays on the new models.

I never said it was. But once they introduce IGZO it will be a change in the display which will warrant a new purchase to see if they have corrected the issues we currently face.

I was not saying IGZO would solve anything just that it's the next logical change that Apple are likely to make to the display.

My iPad Air is perfect, no yellow at all, no backlight bleed, no issues of any kind. So there definitely are good ones out there, trust me I would have noticed if mine had even a teeny-tiny issue at all.

But how many will you need to buy to get a good one? Who knows

Can they even switch to IGZO next year with the iPad Air, iPad Mini retina, and probably the iPhone 6 all moving to it? Seems like they would be very constrained creating all these screens in time

Any word on shipping estimate for your new machine?
