As much as I empathize with them, I have to plus one this. :D

IGZO isn't the be all and end all. It too has its own issues. Just visit the iPad sub forum and see the massive thread there called "Air Screen Defect"

Indeed. The exquisite torture of these display imperfections will never end. ;)

My 13" rMBP Late 2013 have a yellow tint on half the screen, from the middle and down... :( If I place two white terminal windows on my desktop, one at top and one at bottom you can see that the bottom terminal window has a yellow tint.

No IR but this isn't fun either...

Any word on shipping estimate for your new machine?

BLl8hKt.png

My first order and my first replacement were both "Dispatched in 2 - 4 Days" this one is 4 - 6 Days. I thought this may be due to them having a specialist looking at the display after it's built (as I was told by Apple would occur) however I just visited Apples website and configured a BTO with the same specifications as mine and the dispatch time is listed as 4 - 6 days. So it would appear they are slowing down production or orders have increased.

Hopefully they are slowing down to solve these problems we are having..

Well first of all I've never heard of Macmall before so there's that. And secondly I'm in the United Kingdom and they appear to be a United States company. And thirdly I'd have to pay tax on anything I get here even if it was imported from the USA.

I doubt it will, the patch notes just say it helps with graphics switching and maintaining performance of the NVIDIA GPU after waking the system from sleep mode. :(

For me - since there are a few Apple stores near me with the replacement unit: if there are issues, it's easier to deal with Apple directly. Even with sales tax, the edu discount is still ~80$ cheaper.

I just can buy online, and I mean $60 less on macmall even! with the $80 EDU off ;)

I never said it was. But once they introduce IGZO it will be a change in the display which will warrant a new purchase to see if they have corrected the issues we currently face.

I was not saying IGZO would solve anything just that it's the next logical change that Apple are likely to make to the display.

Fair enough.

So, not only does my current machine (the one for which a replacement is being sent) have the uneven temperature but it also has the creaking. At first the creaking didn't seem that bad, but it made some rather loud creaking noises tonight. I worry that the damn thing is going to fall apart. WTF Apple?!?!

Lol, I just now realized my 2011 MBP has creaking on the right next to the palm rest that I never noticed until I deliberately pressed over there a few minutes ago.

I did Macmall as well, great service for people in the US but I understand when people outside of the US want to use Apple. I mean if there is a problem Apple is always there to help. Macmall is too but they are a 20 minute drive from me too.

Great company if anyone is interested in them!

I ask today macmall about this issue, they say me 2 things:

1. we cant control that issue, that comes from apple of course, so well yes they just sell the product of course...

2. we still dont get any return of the macbook pro yet (I dont believe that... maybe a script support line) or they sold a very low quantities...

So I got my rMBP base 15" from amazon. Like the most cases, my screen has yellow tint. Top side is more bright or blue and the rest is getting yellowish. I'm not sure if I don't read the forum that I notice it. Actually it doesn't disturb me that much, but the idea of paying 2k$ for a faulty screen disturbs :D My questions are if I wanna replace it, should I go to an Apple Retail Store or Amazon? Does it matter? And what do you guys think about keeping it? Because I saw a lot of replies about getting a worse replacement. Would keeping it be foolish? Thanks!

What the heck?

New haswell rMBP, 15/2.6/16GB/1TB/750m.

I've been focusing on the slight yellow shift on the bottom half of the display, but I finally took out my 2010 MBP and put them side by side. Check this out:

photo.JPG

new rMBP on the left, cMBP on the right. What's going on here? I've calibrated the new machine with a hardware calibrator (i1 display pro). I'm shocked at how yellow it is but it confirms my suspicion that things just aren't looking quite right.

I have the SJE1 LG screen.

Should I be able to calibrate this out or should I just give up and send back? I calibrated on the advanced mode using D65 as the white point, 100 as the luminance, max # of patches, 2.2 gamma. Frustrating!

I returned and then placed a new order online. I called Apple to see if I could specify I wanted the LG screen. But they couldn't honor the request.

In the US, the BTO shipping times increased to 4 - 6 business days last week, but it dropped back to original 2 - 4 business days.

I HUNGER
Update to my situation

Hey Guys and Gals,

I haven't posted in the thread for a while because my computer was sent back for repairs. Here's what has transpired in relation to my rMBP...

I just got a call from Apple (Japan).

1. They confirmed the yellow discolouration in the bottom left hand corner of my screen.

2. They told me because they have no replacement screens at this time, they are going to give me a new computer. Actually it will be an upgrade to the higher model with the 750m.

3. This is the biggie. They told me they would inspect the screen before sending me the new computer to make sure it's a good one.

And they told me I could keep the power brick I have now and will send me a new one as well.

FYI. I've been dealing with some really poor Apple support workers in the last 4/5 days in relation to pick up service, wrong information (English support in Japan is done via Australia) and them not addressing the problem I'm having with my iPad Air (yellow tint - waiting for a 3rd to be shipped). It's been incredibly frustrating and I've really had a gutful.

But the upgraded computer, the extra brick, the many apologies and the fact this guy was so nice on the phone has soothed the ***** I've been through the past 5 days. This is the Apple I Know.

So to those on the fence about returning your computer because it has discolouration, jump off and return it. Personally, I recommend getting the screen replaced and not a new computer. Why? Because I think you have a much better chance of getting a good screen.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: If you looked at the photos of my screen you might think it's okay, so photos can be misleading. They can lessen and worsen your problem. But they can also confirm what you see. Good luck.

Apple also told me that they would have someone look at my rMBP before mailing it to me. Let's hope they do.

I am happy to hear that Apple sees the discolouration in the corners of our screens as a problem worthy of repair and not 'working as intended.' Hopefully this means that Apple's standard's haven't gone to shiiit and that all of our problems will eventually be sorted.

I called the UK department, but they transferred me a lot. So, I don't know who I ended up speaking with in the end.

If my next replacement (arriving tuesday) isn't up to par, that new XPS 15 is going to start looking mighty tasty! LOL

Well I have had both the LG which I bought last Saturday with a perfect screen on it only to have to return it for other issues involving repair permissions and the Genius could not fix because the laptop was not serialized at the factory( very rare) but basically my laptop was never in there backend system and they could not repair it. They replaced it this week about 3 days ago and now I have a Samsung panel and really no difference a very good screen with maybe a touch more falloff than the LG but no yellowing at all and I just finished calibrating it with I1 display pro and looks really good. BTW for those calibrating these luminance level should be around 120. Also these where both bought IN THE STORE as Max. configs 15 inch 2.6 1TB drives. Now I also have a NEC wide gamut monitor 27 inch sitting right next to it that is also calibrated. These are some of the best photo monitors around outside of Eizo and outside that I can see more detail in the shadows because of the wide gamut my images looks very good on both screens. As expected the retina is a little more saturated simply because it does not have the wide gamut of the NEC and that is the nature of retina screens. Actually this is very good for the retina, which believe it or not even though your images jump off the screen a retina is not the best screen for critical photography and the gamut of your images but they look awesome because it is a shorter gamut and has more saturation on screen. One just needs to understand that the retina will just have a little more punch lets call it to your images.

Guess I am just going to call this what it is and I know many can't get to a store to buy but if your after the max config go to the store buy it open the box and check it before you leave the store. I been lucky on both occasions even with different panels. I know it should not be like this and they should all be perfect. Problem is we do not reside in that perfect world. But if your having issues return it you spent good money and Apple is very good to there customers. After a lot of issues at the Genius bar myself and lost Microsoft office due to activation issues the manager handed me a brand new fresh copy of office. Thats customer service.

Oh one other thing after sitting at the Genius bar for 2 2 hour sessions for a total of 4 hours keep your freaking coffee away from your computer. 5 people came in with the same damn issue spilled coffee on there devices. Its a 750 dollar repair standard price regardless of the damage. Take a cue here folks get you drinks away from the computer unless of course your having a bone dry martini. LOL

Seriously I kid you not I was amazed at this and even funnier was they all had to tell there story on how stupid they where. Don't be that person.
