That looks pretty bad johnny. I can see a dark vertical line on the centre-right of the display.

I wouldn't be able to live with that.

Oh, well I knew *YOU* wouldn't be able to live with it, Quu!! ;)

Just kidding. To be honest, it's something I noticed right out of the box, but I was so focused on checking for other bugs that I kind of forgot about it until I started actually using the computer.

It's pretty annoying.

Guess it's time to roll the dice after all. I briefly considered downgrading to the 2.3GHz CPU to expedite the process--i.e. by just doing this all in an Apple Store rather than having to wait for another BTO machine from Shanghai. But that would be kind of a cop-out, wouldn't it!

I wish it were as easy as just telling Apple, "Send me one with an LG display!"

My first one was an LG display and the yellowing was very noticeable. The Samsung I got the second time was worse but still...

This whole thing is so disappointing.

If you have a decent laptop currently, and you buy a new rMBP and are not fortunate enough to get one without the many defects, RETURN IT.

It's a matter of principle. It's the only way for Apple to realize they can't start suddenly cutting corners and still charge a premium.

This is the new Apple, unfortunately unless the customer speaks, we're gonna have to get used to it.

You have a point.

My feeling has always been that there's a fine line between standing up for your rights as a consumer and acting like an entitled princess when it comes to this stuff, but at the end of the day, a company that charges $3000 for a laptop has to accept the relatively thin margin of error that goes along with such a hefty price tag.

Heck in my country it costs $4,500 the model I got at-least. They talk about how these retina displays are the benchmark of the industry so they better be perfect.

Just one more night and my replacement will be here. Will it be worse, will it be better, did apple really check the screen for me? Stay tuned! LOL

I just spoke with a nice lad from the Apple Store here and he suggested taking the MBP in for a display replacement to save time...

Meanwhile, I've had a slightly bumpy ride with customer support. Was told that they couldn't ship a replacement out to me until they received the first one back. (Apparently that's policy in Canada.) Aggravation mounting.

My advice is to call them back and yell at them. Say this is what you want done or you're never buying a mac again. Trust me. It'll work.

There is no such policy I'm sure.

Yeah. I'm in the same Apple "checking" my screen situation. I'm in Japan, and if they say they are going to check, they probably will. Now whether or not that means problems is an entirely different situation!

Hopefully my new machine will come soon as going back to the weight of the 2009 17" has been a bigger than expected difference as my computer is on the go almost every day.

Bought my 2.3/16/512/750m yesterday, noticed the lower 3/4 of the screen was yellow. Took it to apple, they suggested a screen replacement that would take a day or two or just exchanging it at best buy, they wouldt replace it with a new one for me. Went to best buy and they it replaced it without issue. Hoping this one is perfect now...

Hope you get a good one. My feeling is if they replace the screen, they will check it first. Logic would suggest you got more of a chance of getting a good screen with a screen replacement, but the variable is what percentage of machines actually have the problem. We are all here because we got a problem. It seems prevalent, but probably isn't... or it could be. We don't really know.

So many questions, so little time!

True. I would have gone that route, but I was home visiting for the weekend (where the apple store is) and I needed a computer today for school, yellow or not. So I decided to take my chances with a replacement. I figure if its yellow again, I'll just keep nagging them until I get a good one lol. But so far so good on this new one!

This website honestly made it worse with the light grey bars all over the place. That's what cued it in for me, it wasn't too noticeable anywhere else. But all my bars are the same color now so I think I am good to go!

Good to hear!

I think this site is a good measure. If you can read this site fine, then it seems you got a good one. Unless of course you are doing professional color correction etc.

Honestly, I don't feel like there's anything yellow on my screen, unless I'm reading this thread. Between the bluish theme, and the light grey, and slightly beige-ish bars, it's a mine-field of subtle colour confusions.

Photo looks like it may be slightly yellow, but in person, I don't see it. Also notice the keyboard light is much yellower than what we all know that colour tone is supposed to be.

For those that are returning / exchanging your machine for another one at the Apple store:

When you open up the box in the store and check out the screen... And decide it has a yellow tint or the screen looks warm?

I hate to be "that guy." But at the same time, if you're shelling out that much money for a machine, you have the right to demand a good looking screen.
