This is frustrating.

I'm frustrated that they keep giving me this BS about not knowing about the problem. It is statistically improbable that I'd receive 4 machines direct from China all with the same (and obvious) defect which they don't know about. I'm convinced at this point they've been told to never admit to any kind of widespread manufacturing / design fault to keep them safe from a class action suit.

I have been a lurker in these forums for quite a while now (since the disappointing Feb 2013 bump), and have been following your story with shock at what Apple are getting away with. Maybe there is a silver lining to this - and I am quite serious - how about looking into a novel crowd-sourced class action law suit prepared by a very disgruntled online community? The sheer publicity that would arise out of it would compel Apple to acknowledge the problem and do something significant about it, instead of treating its target audience with such contempt.

If it was the iPhone or iPad that would be viable but they sell so few 15" Retina MacBook Pro's that I doubt it would ever gain the amount of people necessary to get media attention.

In my opinion we'd need to get at-least 100 people involved and I doubt we'd be able to find 20.

Well we may not find 100 people on this forum, but if 10 of us were able to document with evidence all the MBPr's on display in Apple stores had defective screens, then we could use that as evidence of Apple selling defective products? I have been to two Apple stores and two department stores here in London - all the MBPr's on display were very yellowy next to my HTC One screen, which I was using as a benchmark (viewing same white webpage on both devices)

I decided to take the plunge and move from windows to Mac since my wife uses a macbook as well...purchased the rmbp 15 and while I loved the machine (screen seemed to not have any issues) the bottom panel was bulging out a little bit on one side and not sitting flush with the rest of the case. I took it to the apple store to have them take a look at it and they told me it was a known issue and they offered to replace the machine for me. On top of that he added Applecare protection to the new machine at NO cost to me ( I did not purchase apple care for the returned machine). This screen seems to have a little bit of a yellow tint on the bottom right corner but its nothing drastic (samsung screen). I'm going to hang onto it for now and if it gets worse down the road than ill have them take care of it then, since he said I can bring it back anytime within the next 3 years. For now I'm going to enjoy this amazing machine :) But +1 to apple for their amazing customer service, I definitely was not expecting to receive complimentary applecare when i walked into the store, and I didn't even have to say anything.

Received my fifth and final rMBP. patches of yellow on the left hand side of the screen. looks stained. reading/scrolling text on white background is awful. as soon as i figure out what ill be buying instead, plan to return it for good.

what a headache this has been. every apple employee i've talked to throughout this process has been exceedingly nice and sympathetic while all claiming to know nothing about any issue and without taking any concrete steps to make the situation better.

good luck to the others.

I was lucky enough to get a great replacement on my 2nd try along with a free power brick. BUT your experience above is the almost identical to what I've gone through with an iPad Air. They deliberately deny knowing the issue exists for legal reasons. I was told by a Genius - Yes, I can see the yellow on your iPad air screen, but I must tell you that it's acceptable as will my manager... but I will replace it for you.

What has frustrated me has been their lack of will to correct the problem (with the air, unlike the rMBP). I shouldn't be inconvenienced by their Quality Control Issues.

Got free power brick for my rMBP as well when they replaced my 2012 for 2013. I asked them if I need to put the brick into the box, genius said-do not bother :)

i m on my 4th one... I am beginning to believe this problem exist in all the rmbp haswell and those who are saying their display is fine just can't tell or don't know where to look for it. I am contemplating weather or not to just getting a refund for it. I really don't want to but I am beginning to feel cheated.

There are good ones out there it is just not easy to get one. I gave up after four. I may try again after broadwell is released.

No need to be sorry; somebody is bound to burst that infamous bubble sooner rather than later and why not let it be the good people at the MacRumors forum.

Let's see the pics then.

:D

Yeah sure, let me know what those discerning eyes reckon.

And i gave up after 3. Meanwhile i bought a Imac 21.5" model base with 16G ram, SSD 256....and i very happy finally!!

The screen of course, no retina, but excelents colors, had too a little yellow (left side....i think it s a problem off ALL IPS tecnology) but nothing that boring me ...like tha MBP.

So, i save money and have a excelent machine, i am waiting for the money returns.

Next year will see how broadwell generation comes.

Returning my 3rd attempt 2.6/16GB/1TB/750m 5th letter serial# R, hoping MBPr #4 is the charm. I've been on the fence about returning this one, as, while it's not great, it's not as bad as the last one. But it suffers from yellow bottom half, purple top-right, overall less bright than previous attempts, and the kicker, a bright horizontal stripe across the center. I could deal with one of those, maybe two, but not all four. This one's an LG SJE1.

It's not a perfect screen, but I think it's acceptable. The first one I've seen here.

Whites / non shadows and consistency looks good. Some Problems are more apparent with a black screen though. Can you post pics?

Keeping a yellow, defective computer? Why not keep your old one instead?? You are basically telling Apple "I'll take whatever you give me, so no need to care about quality".

It's better than the other ones I've had so far, and if I find it unbearable down the road I'll just ask for a display replacement.

Decrease the gamma from 2.2 to 1.8. This will solve the darkness issue and turn those yellows to whites.
