Just a thought, more testing required...

I believe (and correct me if I'm wrong) that what you're seeing is an overall colour shift a unified shift across the whole display towards yellow when using your external display is that correct?

If so that is normal it's just how OS X applies a different colour profile to the display than your other computer.

However if you have yellow only in a part of the display, like a shift from white to yellow which is only present when your Mac is connected then you have some kind of problem for sure.

The yellow tint we are discussing in this thread though is the kind that only affects a part of the screen, usually the bottom half and not the entire display.

You're proposing that the problem is the video card and not the display? That's interesting.

Well gpus do output signal levels. What you see in things like a histogram in an image editing program is only an approximation. Apart from that, the gpu's output does depend on any instructions in the profile, and the profile itself provides a description of the hardware gamut. It's too much information to sum up in a few lines, but yeah it can make a difference. That it assigns the correct profile is also an issue.

Not bad !
Litlle light bleeds...
And what about color uniformity ?
Can you take a picture of a White Screen ?
I am waiting January to exchange mine for 2nd time and would like to get one like yours but with less lift bleeds :)

color uniformity is also really good, compared to my last 3 machines.
I did a white-point check with a colorimeter and the maximum deviation is
140K in the left bottom corner, this means 2,2 % - the rest has a deviation under 100K.

and here i took a picture of a white screen - just for you :)

it is calibrated to 6500K

and as you can see, there is always the problem with vignetting of these iphone pictures - in real life it is not like this - i've added a black frame in Photoshop, because otherwise you're comparing with the plain white of this page

my high end 2008 iMac suffered from "muddy" spots in the corners. bleeding. it never bothered me much. I thought it was just a bi product of those IPS displays.

Mine has been ordered, but I won't receive it until after the holidays.

Gotta say I wish they'd just go back to TN. Viewing angles are worthless if it isn't uniform even when looking at it head on.

Awaiting my 5th unit, just got dispatched today.

After many years of using MacBooks with TN panels and having to connect them to external monitors all the time to do any colour-critical work, I say hell no!

I feel bad for you guys having to go through all these bad units, but my 2012 and late 2013 rMBPs have been fine for colour - so much so that I've finally stopped having to double check things on external monitors or on the iMac. Has saved me heaps of time which translates to heaps of money.

I wish I was one of the lucky ones like yourself that got a trouble free unit. I'm crossing my fingers my 5th unit is perfect like yours.

Mine is nowhere near trouble free and far from perfect. In fact, my previous 15 inch rMBP 2012 was nearly perfect and this 2013 one is worse in terms of build quality all around. 2012 had absolutely no creaks... this one creaks and display is nowhere as good as the great Samsung panel I had in my 2012.

I'll probably be joining you guys soon in the Apple exchange/repair cycle. Just don't have any time near xmas to take it to the Apple Store yet. Until then I can work around the issues, but they are annoying to deal with so I can sympathize with what you guys went through.

Gosh.. I have no more words really about this situation. I've lost the energy to express my annoyance at these circumstances.

Finally!

4th time is the charm! I'm typing this on my 4th 15" 2.6/16GB/1TB/750m, and it's a keeper. The display is nothing like the last three. There is a tiny bit of yellow in the bottom left corner of this one but it's just right at the edge and very slight. I would never have noticed it had I not been looking for it. Uniformity is good. xRite measures about 18 lum diff at worst, but I don't see it as there's no bright spot. Color temp is good. Everything else seems good on this one. No creaky keys, no creaky case. The trackpad has a slight bit of give in the bottom-right, but better than 2/3 of the others I received.

I'm able to compare this new one to #3 as I kept it to see. The difference is striking. Can't believe I was considering keeping #3. It's SO yellow (after calibration). And it has a bright stripe across the middle.

So to summarize my four machines (first ordered the day they came out):

1. Yellow bottom half, squeaky spacebar: returned. LG SJE1, no IR
2. Yellow bottom half, creaky case: returned. Samsung, no IR
3. Yellow bottom half, yellowish overall: returning. 5th serial: R, LG SJE1, no IR
4. Barely noticeable yellow near bottom left edge, no tint overall, not perfectly tight trackpad but fine, no creaks, no squeaks: keeping. 5th serial: V, LG SJE1, no IR

I was skeptical I'd ever get a machine worth keeping, but it happened. So to those still doing this dance, don't despair! I am SO happy I didn't keep a previous machine, even though I've really needed a new one this whole time.

Have you talked to Apple support about it yet? I should be talking to my advisor soon...but if this is in their system then I feel less crazy haha

Of course i swaped it one time and I am waiting January , before 7th to ask for another replacement.
