I've hated every version of osx after snow leopard but Yosemite is the last straw. Staying on Snow Leopard until chrome isn't supported anymore then ditching for Linux. Sorry but apple has gone insane.

After giving Yosemite a fair chance, I have to agree that the dock just looks stupid. Having a brown dock on a black background is ridiculous. There are some successes in Yosemite with the appearance, but if the dock is supposed to be disguised as nothing and is intended to be minimalist, there should be an option to hide the silly outline of the thing permanently. Looks like something out of Windows 3.1.

Apple - this works on an iPad - not on a Mac. Think of something else, or don't let Jony Ive ever touch a Mac again.

Obviously, and SOON, Apple will completely merge the iOS and Macbook lines with unified devices and OS...never doubt it no matter what they say.

There are software out there that let you change the hole theme of the mac from the way the OS looks to the icons and folders. So if you don't like it then use software and change it to the way you like.

There are some of us who don't like carrying another piece of software hogging resources just to manipulate skins, no doubt messing with the systems files and causing instabilities...

Yosemite is bloated enough as it is...

Concur. IMO it looks ugly and very childish/juvenile. Looks like a program from the 80s. Even the colors are muted and unsightly (mustard yellow on brown?).

Calling a spade a spade. Joni was great with hardware design but not digging the ultra flat design with playskool color palette.

Refreshing look on my Macbook Pro. Going in I wasn't crazy about the look because I really dislike the look of ios7/8 on my wifes iphone but on my Macbook it looks good. It is a welcome change.

Maybe not, but if you were an expert in microbiology, I'd assume you knew what you were talking about. You might be pleased with the way that Yosemite looks and how it works, but technically speaking, it's full of errors that when corrected, present a better experience.

Your background isn't worth anything to me and it is just your opinion.

Yep, another 'whiner' here. Been with Apple since my first experience with them in a computer lab at college in 1990. I've been through every up and down through the years, sticking with them even when they dropped like a brick applications that I relied upon daily. I stuck with them as claris gave way to Appleworks, and as Appleworks got sucked into iWork, and even as iWork underwent an underwhelming transformation to work in 'the cloud'.

I'm not bailing on Apple/Mac. I've got WAY to much invested in hardware and software with 8 Macs between work/home/family/personal, and 15+ iDevices.

And though I know it's neither the concern nor care of anyone here, I'll emptily state it anyway... I utterly LOATHE the look of Yosemite. I'm totally an early adopter, yet this will be the first time since Mac OS has been available via download that I will not have upgraded within the first 24 hours of availability.

I know some of you love it, and that's great. You're not wrong, and I'm not 'right' because this is simply a matter of personal preference. But I'll be sticking with X.9 as long as it is supported or until someone at Apple learns that 'simple' isn't always 'beautiful' to everyone.

I totally agree, it is such a mess! Someone mentioned that you can create themes for Yosemite. Is it possible to change the entire look? Where can I get tutorials?

I'm a professional UX/UI designer and I am willing to re-skin the entire GUI... are there any collaboration projects? I'll join asap!

This Jonny Ive GUI horsecrap needs to be fixed! Apple has gone insane!

Overall Yosemite is ok. However, it could be much better if...

Ability to selectively turn off translucency. I like a translucent Dock, however, translucent backgrounds for text are a no go.

Finder Folder icons - Way to bright, it would be nice if Apple would provide a couple of choices for folder icon colors. Mavericks folder icons were very easy on the eyes.

Yosemite completely changed to color calibration on my computer..everything looks kinda over saturated now. Did they make the blue/turquise folders extra baby blue or do i need to re-calibrate?

Progress? Really??

I can understand pressure for a new look from a sales point of view, but as another "old guy" the icons and type remind me of what you used to see on the low res tubes of 20 to 30 years ago :(. However its not a world ending disaster.:roll eyes:

I agree whole heartedly. I just get depressed having to look at this s***. Windows 8.1 looks better then this crap.

How do I go back to Mavericks? Yosemite isn't that appealing to me...sorry, it's just not. I've not had a problem with Mavericks on my late-08 13" aluminum MacBook...in fact it still runs like new. I'd just like to convert back.

seriously...isn't the most important part of an OS how it works? yosemite (buggy, as are all new OS's), is fast, stable. light. logical (especially coming from any earlier os x).

give it a week, two weeks...whatever. you'll adapt, and the GUI will become background. and you'll be focused on your REAL work. the web, email. photoshop. whatever. the WORK is what matters most, isn't it?

it's a great step forward (and personally, i think it's the best-looking os x ever).

I must say, I'm really enjoying the look of Yosemite.

It just feels so much lighter. Perhaps too light in some cases, but still overall, rather refreshing.

I just wish they would fix the quality issues. It's not a matter of taste for me, its a matter of legibility. These examples express my complaint. In all the arguments about OS X, or OS 9 for that fact, I don't ever recall people complaining about poor typography on any Mac until Yosemite.

On the left is Mavericks, Yosemite on the right. No one can convince me Yosemite is easier to read. I think that lack of contrast and pixelation (if you look close) is what causes the eye strain complaints.

Have I submitted this to Apple? Repeatedly, during all these Betas, sadly they are locked down now. Best we can hope is .1 sanity will prevail.

theyre trying to get you to look at the objects not the words because in the real world objects don't come with labels. Thats my take on it :)

I thought the same as well. Especially the icons for Mail and Finder look very weird.

I'm currently going through an internal battle trying to decide whether or not to update. As an early adopter I feel like I need to, but I, like you, really dislike the new design. Maybe I'll install on a partition to play around with and see if it grows on me.

The white is now "bright white", I have found myself adjusting contrast a lot. Tried calibrating the display with little success, it just a bad color choice.
