I think it looks just awful. Windows XP looked better and that was dreadful.

I really don't know what Apple were thinking of.

And the folder icons are NOT staying on my iMac. I am not staring at those things all day.

The white is now "bright white", I have found myself adjusting contrast a lot. Tried calibrating the display with little success, it just a bad color choice.

Wait till you see your "force fed" version of iTunes 12 on Mavericks, then you can compare background and font side by side.

BTW, iTunes 12 attached to the latest 10.9 security update or I would have never installed it. Be warned there is no turning back to iTunes 11.

No, I think you could ignore iTunes 12 too. I know this because I selectively chose to update to iTunes 12 on Mavericks while waiting for the Yosemite download to complete. The security update was not possible without a restart, so I skipped it.

But the overexposure of the colours is definitely something to look into. I don’t like to mess with colour profiles.

well sort of , but when you pick up your coffee mug or tea cup there is no word label hanging off the side.

Didn't Apple just get rid of "Skeuomorphism"

Skeuomorphism refers to a design principle in which design cues are taken from the physical world.

So which is it?

Regardless, nothing on your screen should ever be illegible for any reason.

Hi, When I click on Inbox it no longer displays the number of mails in same. Ditto on sub folders. Can this 'count' be visible?

I see what you mean, I didn't expand and took both. Rats, I have to do a complete restore to remove it.

Tiger does look long in the tooth now, though. Especially these folder icons would need now some polish.

The new 10.10 look will indubitably be improved upon in the next iteration. I would wish less translucency, and more contrast (both can be achieved now by turning the Accessibility display options on thereby rendering everything really full of contrast).

Had a play around with it today. Ugh, just no. It's damn fugly.

I went straight back to Mavericks and I guess I'll be sticking around there for the foreseeable.

i just don't understand these posts. give it some time, you'll adapt. meanwhile, you benefit from the new features, and the under-the-hood changes . isn't that the most important part of a new OS??

That's the kicker, what "under the hood" changes are you talking about. Disregard Continuity and Handoff, what else? I didn't see much other than swapping to Core Storage.

Embarrasing...

Howdy all...
I was looking forward for Yosemite and the rumored redesign, to say the least I was surprised last night after the new desktop showed up on my MPB desktop... the overall design of the icons, folders looks like someone age 10 would produce, the close and minimize icons are horrible! but the worse is the FONT! what Apple was thinking about?
Does anybody knows of an app that will change the look of this horrific mess?
(mind you, I love the speed and responsiveness of the system:))

not apps, but the code underneath. the big thing (i think) should be: is the OS stable? fast? efficient? does it support the WORK that i do (or play, or whatever). so...(again, for me) 10.10 is the best OS X yet...and i love the look as well...

My point is there are very little changes to the OS, it's a fluff release, icons and fonts. Any performance improvements are imagined.

Mavericks had a ton of changes and they didn't break too much which is nice.

https://www.apple.com/osx/advanced-technologies/

After reading the above you'll find nothing close in Yosemite.

An over the top negative comment is going to attract more attention than a positive one. How many people would read a thread titled "I really like Yosemite" compared to "Yosemite looks terrible!". That's why people do it. It's some form of misinterpreted rebellion.

I think the people that predicted the fairly high, meaning anywhere from 20% to 50% dissatisfaction rate had it right. Right now I'm guessing it's going to be 30% or more dislikers and a very low adoption rate in the long term.

My #1 personal dislike is the translucency running through the top of the window frame, especially on Safari. Many times the color changes in it are small and only slight, leaving the top portion of the frame with a bruised appearance. Seriously, this thing is constantly reminding me of the pictures of victims of spousal and child abuse. All I need to do is scroll a site opened in Safari up where a small colored item was and voila - a bruise appears. The bruises can appear to look like the drunken husband/father/whatever merely slapped the victim around a little to one where he had the victim pinned down on the floor and was severely beating them.

WOW!!! What a great thing to have running through your head when you look at this "brilliant" improvement.

The buttons and controls look like something out of an 8th grade art class, and the performance? It's as fast as any speeding turtle I've ever seen.

Doesn't exactly match, does it. I had to restore. iTunes is scattered all over. It's really hard to delete and reinstall.

None of Apple's software matches anymore. I turned off automatic updates everywhere.
