I have been doing some more research between the two Early 2011 MBP's that I have - one that drops 5Ghz wifi repeatedly when channel is 149, and one that works fine.

It dawned on me that one that works is the entry level model with the integrated graphics, and one with issues has the AMD Radeon HD 6750M.

Could there me any correlation with the graphics card?

How many of you with issues have the 6570M?

I have issues with Wifi and Time Capsule connectivity

Definitely an issue with Apple's discoveryd daemon
restarting wifi then restarting discoveryd lets me see my Time Capsule and perform Time Machine Backups

Wifi SSID's still drop out with Yosemite however

Apple really need to investigate and fix these wifi issues

I have major wifi performance issues with Yosemite

I connect with 5Ghz Band, to my 802.11ac TimeCapsule. Before Yosemite I got a connection speed of 1053mbps to 1300mbps
With Yosemite, it's at 1300mbs for a few seconds before dropping to 260mbs

If I run up Wifi Explorer app, it shows Wifi SSID's dropping in and out

Needless to say, no other device in the house has these issues and I can see the 5GHz SSID of my Time Capsule at 1300mbps on other devices

Apple really need to fix these performance and wifi stability issues

Apple's own thread is now over 27 pages ... https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6601963

I have the exact same problem

I even get the same speed as you. It starts at over 1000mbps then after a second or so immediately drops to 200 something Mbps

It isn't some crazy power saving either, my lan speed tests confirm transfer speeds are also junk

Highly frustrating

I have found that if I

1) Turn off Wireless, wait a few seconds, then turn back on
2) Stop discoveryd using sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
3) restart discoveryd using sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist

The my Wifi speed seems better and I can connect to my TimeCapsule ... something I cannot do just after boot (it's not visible/connectable via Finder or Time Machine)

SSID's still disappear however

Apple definitely need to acknowledge and fix this bug, as it's got me on the point of restoring to Mavericks

Well my change to channel < 149 corrected my Wi-Fi dropping issue for 24 hours. Today it is out again. This really seems to be tied to when Time Machine runs (also over WiFi).

What's weird, is the Time Machine backup completes without error, but Pings to the router fail.

When the pings are failing, refreshing my IP seems to bring it back.

Very weird...

Try doing what I suggested above (in post #180) and restarting discoveryd and wifi

bluetooth is the issue for my machine..

with it on, there is 1-2mbps transfer rate. With bluetooth off its normal.

Annoyed to say the least. Apple wants to have me sit on the phone while they research this issue before letting me install an older OS.

AND.. will only let me back to Mountain lion as that is what this computer shipped with. Can't use use mavericks

Mine shipped with mountain lion and I can install Mavericks. I think I fetched it in the App Store and created an installer USB drive.

Sounds like you may have misunderstood, exactly what is stopping you doing a fresh install of Mavericks? Or Cmd-option-r and installing ML then upgrading to Mavericks?

It's kind of comical that WiFi doesn't work... maybe?

I'm registering my complaint here as well.

Good thing my mbp (MacBookPro11,3 - 15" late-2013 with all the ram) wifi is about as reliable as Windows ME (am I right!?!?). Good thing it wasn't an extremely expensive computer and I can upgrade any of the parts at anytime, or I'd be really upset!

My opinion is that Apple will fix this issue/release definite instructions. These pseudo-fixes sometimes help momentarily. But all should complain.

Ugh, I'm going to go not watch streaming videos now.

It seems like all the cool new tech this year has proven insanely unreliable, and it's not just Apple. I had a surface pro 3 I loved to death, but it had problems too, including wifi issues even worse than this one. UGH!

And windows ME? That's just mean.

Ardmanz, do you lose just WAN (internet) access or does the LAN become inactive also? Next time it happens, try pinging sth on your LAN when you lose connectivity to the internet.

For me, I only lose WAN access - temporarily for about 20 secs - and the Wifi icon shows an active connection throughout (the LAN connectivity stays intact). Please refer to my post above where I clarify some of these issues.

I had a chance to test this again.

Both LAN and WAN were unresponsive until I turned off wifi and turned it back on. The other computers on my network (all connected via wifi were unaffected).

Ok, so this issue started for me Sunday. Up until then as far as I can tell my MBP late 2009 was connecting to my wireless Comcast router with no problems.

Sunday after church I open up my computer and no connection?? However, my Iphone 5S is connected and my wife's dell is connected no problem.

I decide to change to my Verizon MIFI Jetpack, connects no problem. I then start to search the message boards for similar problems and try several suggested things.

Long story short I change the wifi encryption on the comcast modem to WPA2 and problem solved.

I've just replicated this drastic speed drop using my rMBP at work. Same set up as home apart from the laptop connecting to a AirPort Extreme.

Sitting right next to the router I start off with a connection rate of 1300mbps solid.

Enable Bluetooth and it drops to 289mbps

Disable Bluetooth and then disable and re enable wifi and it's back to a solid 1300mbps

I can't disable Bluetooth on the iMac due to BT keyboard and mouse

They aren't going to acknowledge something they haven't fixed yet.
Didn't Apple pull the iOS 8.0 update, due to the connection problems it caused for the iPhone 6, even before they had found a fix?

On another note, I can't understand why the MacRumors editors haven't even reported on this Yosemite / WiFi issue. I sent them a tip, including a link to the Apple Support Communities forum, that includes a thread with nearly 600 replies and more than 60,000 views, yet I have seen nothing from the MR editors. They seem to have plenty of time for several threads about the CVS/ApplePay debacle. I would hate to think that fear of offending Apple is the reason that MacRumors is keeping silent on this issue.

Perhaps if more tech forums reported on the problem, Apple would be more motivated to find a resolution.

Looks like I'm not the only one noticing wifi issues with Yosemite. I have a rMBP 13" 2014 and when I first boot up I get a connection then immediately lose it after about a minute or so. I switch to a different SSID and that works for a while and then I lose that connection. Then I turn wifi off/on and choose the same SSID and that seems to work for a bit longer.

I just did one of the suggestions to remove all of my preferred networks and see how that works out. I thought it was my router since I recently upgraded the FW for my R7000 but I guess that isn't the case. I do see wifi issues at times with my iPhone 6 on iOS 8.1 where I did not see the issues before.

I have found AIRDROP is a big cause of speed decrease

If I
1) Turn Wifi Off, wait a minute and then turn back on .. I get 1300mbps
2) In Finder go to Airdrop .. speed immediately drops to 265mbps

This is repeatable

Obviously something in Airdrop seems to kill Wifi Speeds and they never recover

I would like to register my complaint as well with Yosemite and 5 GHZ WiFi. I have a late 2013 15" rMBP with the graphics card and can not maintain a 5GHZ connection. After I re-boot, the 5 GHZ connection is available for less than 5 minutes. The WiFi then disconnect and then all I am able to get is a 2.4 GHZ connection. I have tried the following to resolve:

- Reboot the router.
- Reset the PRAM
- Reset the SMC
- Delete the 5 plist files associated with wifi and networking.

None of these have resolved my issues 15" rMBP. What is find interesting is that my early 2014 11" MacBook Air has no issues with connection to the 5 GHZ band and Yosemite.

Cheers,

Don Barar

5Ghz network band works for 15 minutes and then drops out completely. rmbp mid-2012.

I'm too lazy or busy (I'll let you choose... :D) to investigate any further.

I can't believe how long this has been an issue and has not been fixed yet. It is all over the internet.

My 2500$ macbook sits while I use my 450$ HP windows computer. UNREAL.
