A few weeks in & im enjoying Dark Sky. Way better than stock iOS weather & Yahoo Weather. It's very detailed, yet clean looking.

The only drawback with dark sky and other forecast.io apps is that the long range forecast always shows lots of rain. If there is a 2% chance of rain it shows the weather icon as rain. It's great at up to minute prediction and daily forecast but long range can be way off.

I wish the partly sunny app offered notifications and radar than I would just keep that, but they don't. I don't care for the dark sky or twc widget so that is why I keep all 3 running.

Weather Underground is my favourite. It has a graph of expected temperatures and temperatures for the past day. It locates the nearest weather station within the city and there are multiple ones within the cities. It makes for more accurate current temperatures and conditions as well as forecasts. Living in Canada, sometimes I find that certain weather apps are very inaccurate. I can tell that with some weather apps, the forecasts are ridiculously off. Weather Underground is one of the most accurate weather apps for my area, Metro Vancouver.

I'm a fan of Weather Underground as well. It's one of the few apps that also can show the National Weather Service forecast as well. I wish their widget was a bit better though--if it would show the forecast a few days ahead it'd be quite good.

Weather Underground is my goto as well. My only issue is the widget seems to have a hard-on for thunderstorms. Year round, every day it says something about thunderstorms. I'm in Wisconsin and thunderstorms in January are pretty rare.

Another drawback of weather apps is where they get their data from. I live about 10 miles from the long Island sound, and the temp difference between here and there in the winter can be huge. Right now it's only a 2 degree difference, but some days it's 5 degrees in the winter, and close to 20 in the early summer. A few degrees in the winter is rhe difference between rain and a foot of snow, and trust me, that happens all the time. There is a small airport there that has a nws station, and some weather apps will use that one for all the towns in the vicinity which doesn't work good at all.

Mine always says dry conditions to continue or thunderstorms in the area. It says dry conditions to continue when it's the middle of a flooding rain storm. That's why i dumped them and just keep twc which uses the same data sources as WU since they own them.

But, their politics suck and I should boycott them. Lol

Maybe they don't use the home westher stations, but they must use them to get an area average because the temp and forecasts between the two is 99% the same. Plus the home station closest to me has something wrong with their unit because they are always 7-8 degrees lower than everyone else.

Right in the middle.

So Disney and ESPN are the same since they're owned by the same company?

Also, TACO bell, KFC, & Pizza Hut?

Got it.

That's just a stupid comment. The three restaurants serve different products, but I guarantee they get their ingredients from the same vendors, just like they all sell pepsi products.

Espn employees are disney employees and get special employee only discounts at Disney resorts.

TWC’s website has WU’s API linked in their footer.

Apologies for the red herring. How could I have known that you'd lose the forest for the trees? I'll dispose with illustrative analogies henceforth.

The fact remains: Yes, WU was bought by TWC, but they operate separately and use different sources and models.

Fun fact, Intellicast is also owned by the same parent company, "The Weather Company." (It's all owned by IBM, FWIW.)

All I know is if I compare the forecast from WU and twc they are almost identical. If I compare either to anyone else, they are always different and some times way off.

Intellicast is a joke. Accuweather is garbage.

Your research and support is spot on. Top marks for objectivity as well.

You aren't worth my time. Goodbye.

I use dark sky, weather channel, and partly sunny. Partly sunny has a great widget.

That Partly Sunny widget looks indeed very good although there is a lot of space around the widget. Can you also reduce that in the settings in the app somewhere? Also the hour by hour temperature bar seems a bit huge to me. I have other widget to show as well.

WOW, that Partly Sunny widget is nice!
Anyone else not getting the rain amount chart in BeWeather BTW? It's not showing up in the app or widget (but I have it enabled), but it's definitely showing up on the Dark Sky website.

I have never seen it unfortunately but that has to do with my location (the Netherlands) where we do have a service that offers that data for free but it seems the weather source was never able to connect it to it unfortunately.

I just recently changed my widget widget weather and there more I look it, the more I appreciated it. The only thing which is missing is the minute by minute rain forecast, although it does show a blue bar to indicate the rain between every three hours and the rain percentage chance so that's why I also keep two other weather widget (Buienalarm, BeWeather2) in my Notification Center.

This is it in its regular form. The other pic was the expanded form.

Thanks for sharing that. I bought the app/widget yesterday just to compare. I really like. Unfortunately you cannot change anything on the looks of the widget though aside from Celsius/Fahrenheit and similar things.
If they would reduce the white margin between the header of the widget, above the temperature bar and below it that would make it a bit smaller which is nicer I think. It would also be great if it could show the amount of mm of rain as well.

I really hope that one of these great weather apps/widget will add the functionality to show minute by minute rainforecast for the Netherlands so I won't have to use multiple weather apps/widgets.
I've also written a few e-mails to a few great weather app developer in hoping that they will add support to their app and in some cases also offer their app outside of the existing countries. I know I'm living in a small country but you can always try.

I just wanted to let you know that for the Netherlands there is a free source to get a minute by minute rainforecast. The KNMI (the Dutch weather service) provides the radar data free of charge see on these webpages:
https://data.knmi.nl/datasets or check this API: http://erikr.github.io/weerapi/

I just updated the widget overview as posted earlier in this topic with a few other nice apps like Partly Sunny, Crisp Weather widget and Weather Line.

Crisp Weather widget - 0.99 dollar (once)
+ nice UI
+ you can change the size of the widget, timeline part of it
+ you can choose if it can use GPS or not
+ cheap
+/- shows a lot of details per hour/day also rain chance percentage but you have to press the day for it. It would be great to have an option to see some of these permanantly for each day (optional in settings).
+/- has minute by minute rain bar but only for select amount of coutries
- lacks mm rain or cm of snow, only percentage change (and in order to see it you have to press the day or hour for it which is an extra step)
- I would love to see an option for permanently showing the mm rain / rain percentage chance for upcoming hours + per day for upcoming days instead of selecting the day to see it
- the settings for showing both upcoming hours so e.g. from now untill 0.00 today + 7 days can only be seen when tapping on the widget. I tapped both 24 + 7 days in the app setting. You can see both of them in the widget at the same time.
- limited amount of (widget) settings

Crisp_Weather_Widget.png

Weather Line - 2.99 dollar (once)
+ nice UI
+ doesn't need GPS to use it
+/- has minute by minute rain bar but only for select amount of coutries
- lacks upcoming days (7) in widget
- lacks mm rain / rain percentage chance
- limited amount of (widget) settings

A few nights ago we had TS here in Chicago. Only time in recent weeks I saw TS in weather underground

Problem with accuweather is the use the closest airport as their core station. Living downtown Chicago, they say there is rain, yet it's clear out. However Chicago ohare (12 miles west) has rain. So I can't rely on them

Anyone tried AmberWeather? The app itself is pretty nice but it has some nifty looking widgets.

The widget looks nice but is really limited as far as details and settings are concerned.
The free version has also really annoying full size ads.
I think e.g. Widget Weather, Crisp Weather, BeWeather2 or Partly Sunny have much more to offer widget and app wise.

I also like eWeather and the animations, the widget weather clock adds a nice touch as well...

It's not really my thing to be honest. It's really big and doesn't show much info but good that you found one of your favorite weather app/widget.

This is the other part of the eWeather widget...

I've found that just one weather app doesn't do it for me, so I actually have a couple set up in my widgets... LOL
