What I have : iMac 2.0 G5 , MBP 2.0, MB 2.0

Use them for Video editing and recording. Web Design and the standard email internet.

What im getting: Next Upgrade to the Intel iMac hopefully Core 2 duo

Why im getting: Needing a update computer i like to do it every few years. The 2.0 G5 is still a great machine hands down i just would like to swap it out with the newer bustier intel iMac.

What I have now: 2 Ghz iMactel, 1.5 Ghz PPC Powerbook

What I'll buy next: baseline MacBook

When: hopefully next summer when it's bundled with Leopard and contains a mighty merom chip in it.

Why: I want to replace my PB with a MacBook

When? Somewhere between April and November 2007

What? MacBook Pro — the fastest, biggest, grooviest one I can get. Money no object. Ram stuffed to the gills.

Why? Very small flat, want to replace fixed and cumbersome dual G4 1.42 for space-saving wireless model for designing everywhere within my four walls... yes, everywhere.

What I have now: iBook G4 14" 1.42GHz

What I'll buy next: MacBook Pro. Whatever model I can afford.

When: Hopefully in a few years.

Why: Because my iBook won't be supported anymore.

what i have now: 1Ghz TiBook

when i will get a new machine: The instant they announce a Merom Macbook pro, so long as it is after september 8th

what i will get:a decked to the gills 15" macbook pro, along with final cut studio 5.1

why i will get it: because running CS2, After Effects, and FCP on the TiBook is getting very problematic and slow, because i get to write it off, and because it pays for itself in a few weeks anyway.

Stealing Chundles format... *yoink*

Currently:
466MHz G4 (don't think it's the Sawtooth), but in that generation of G4 towers. Has 160GB drive, 128MB video card and 680MB of RAM. (Still runs Tiger just fine!...Photoshop is another story)

Next Mac:
A Mac Pro, here's my current specs:
  • Two 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon -either the 3GHZ or the 2.66 chips
  • 1GB (2 x 512MB) -base RAM because I can usually by more for cheaper than Apples BTO prices.
  • 250GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s -again I have plenty of drives and can upgrade later very easily
  • ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB (2 x dual-link DVI) -I do intend to be one of those Mac 'gamers'
  • Apple Cinema HD Display (23" flat panel) -I'm using an old and unsuppored Apple ADC CRT monitor
  • 1 x SuperDrive -I'm sure I can add a 2nd drive later (i.e. Blu-ray, HD whatever... )
  • Both Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and AirPort Extreme -I use BT for my phone and I wouldn't mind an availible wireless connection
  • Apple Keyboard and Mighty Mouse - U.S. English -standard issue, though I think I like my G4's black keyboard better and may still use it
  • Mac OS X - U.S. English -standard issue

When?:
Depends on the discounts I can get. Probably within the next 6 months

Why?:
See my current machine. It's old, slow and in a couple of years new software won't be able to run on it. I also am interested in BootCamp and want to see if it is the best of both worlds. :D As you might have figured out I do tend to hang on to computers for a very long time, so getting the 3GHz Mac Pro should last me for another 6-years, but the debate is the posibility of upgrading the CPU, if it's possible then I should maybe go with the cheaper 2.66GHz and upgrade later...

My brother is in school and can get both an educational discount and half the taxes off of it if I buy through him. He's going to be done school soon, but I don't have the cash for it yet so I'll hold off till the last possible minute. Hopefully I'll be able to catch a new revision in the process, but I'm not counting on it.

My current machine is a 15" 2.0 GHz MacBook Pro as soon as I know the Merom based MacBook Pros have no issues I'll be swapping this 1 for the new model. As for why? No real reason I love this machine but 64 bit is the future, and the idea that in a month or 2 I will be able to have a 64 bit notebook running OS X just amazes me.

What I have
- last iBook G4
- last iMac G5

some older Macs

Whats next:
Mac Pro with 23" CD

When:
middle to end of 2008 - latest Spring 2009

Why:
I am tired of waiting while rendering

Macbook Pro...next year late Spring or early Summer ....OR... when Maya and Adobe stuff is UB. I definitely want a 64bit computer capable of taking full advantage off Leopard and running Maya in 64bit. Mobility is essential for me. I'm quite confident I'll be disappointed in Apple's choice of GPU (and lack of choices) for the Macbook Pro...that's always the case. I know I can get a better 3d laptop on Windows (Alienware), but overall...Windows Vista is looking pretty poor in light of Leopard. Now using a Powerbook G4 1.67 17" with 2 gigs of RAM...and as long as I'm not texturing...it's doing just fine. The longer I wait the better.....

What I'll buy next: New iMac (Conroe?)

When: As soon as it's available. Hopefully Next month please...

Why: I want to switch to the Mac platform from a PC. Also because The iMac shouldn't take up much space on a desk, I would like to take it with me next year to college along with a Lenovo laptop.

Stealing Chundles's format too...

What I have now

Home build PC, Celeron 2Ghz.

Next

Most likley a Mac Pro, middle-end or a low-end Macbook, whichever I decide I need first.

Why

While my current PC does the job I need it to do for the most part, if a little slowly, its already obselete and has been for awhile. It stutters when playing back TV shows from iTunes. I use it primarally as a Media Centre computer and have the prequisite Windows OS installed on it. MCE is superior to anything on the Mac platform for what I do with it currently but other probrams are cathcing up. I suspect there will be a solution which fits my needs by the time I purchase another Mac. The Mac Pro fits my needs because if its lack of built-in screen and its expandability. If it weren't for the latter I would get a Mini instead since even the 2.0Ghz Pro model is way overkill for what I do currently. I don't plan on buying another computer for a good while and even if it is overkill now, it won't be in a couple years.

I plan to get a Macbook too but am unsure of my timeline. I seem to be doing fine without a notebook currently so I think it'll be a second purchase down the line. Even then I plan to get the low-end model since I'm not exactly going to need a lot of power.

When

Hopefully by the beginning of next year, after Macworld definately. I want to pay off all my current debt before I make another big purchase. By then I'l be able to afford an ADC Select membership and a mid-range Mac Pro.

Merom MacBook Pro!!!!! Neeeeeed it to replace my dying Pismo! Need MBP to record music! a;lsdfjalks;djfkla;sdjfal;sdfasfkj sickoftheseoldcomputersneedMEROMrightnow!

Merom is a 16 core chip that will severly outperform the new mac pro in the beginning of 2008.

No, kidding. I wish though. Merom is the new dual core chip that will be in the next macs most likely which support 64-bit software (like the new mac os x)

My Mac:

WHAT: The new MacBook Pro with Merom + Santa Rose

WHEN: Next spring I guess, but definatly after Leopard is released!

WHY: It'll be my first Mac, so a nice computer to enter the world of Mac on, plus it's powerful enough to deal with the complex science programs I use!

Cheers

What: Macbook Pro 15.4"

When: The day, the hour, dare I say the MINUTE they are announced with Core 2 Duo CPUs.

Why: I need a notebook for school and I really want merom's additional performance + 64bit for future proofing (getting an extra year or so worth of practical performance).

WHAT: hopefully Mac Pro

WHEN: when i have the money (earliest probably a year from now)

WHY: because it's a monster and my intel imac is good, but i wish i had the mac pro

Please help me

What I have : A pathetic 7 year old computer with 10GB of hard drive

What I want: A 17" iMac with 1GB RAM and 250GB hard drive
Why: I desperately need a new computer for university
When: I don't know! Should I buy it now and have it when school starts, or wait until after Paris and see if anything new comes out? Would the price change dramatically for a new one?

What I have now: PowerBook G4 1.67

What I want: Mac Pro

Why: I'm looking to learn FCS so I can finally start digitizing the family home movies and make them look all pretty :D I'm also growing more jealous by the day of those who use Boot Camp or Parallels.

When: Probably not for a LONG time :(

What I Have; 17" iMac G5, 1.8Ghz, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD

What next: Either a cheap ibook or macbook

When: If the ibook goes down in price more - around xmas time. If not a macbook, next year after leopard and when apple has a free ipod promotion in Aussie.

Why: My last year of highschool. I can see it being a huge help then and also when I go to UNI. I also want something mobile so I can take it places.

YAY! For the ibook!

What I Have: Generation 1 17" iMac G5 1.8 GHz, 2 GiB of RAM & 80 GB HDD (my first Mac).

What next: White Macbook or Macbook Pro.

When: Next year after Leopard and iLife 07 are out.

Why: I was considering getting a Mac Pro to replace my Windows desktop, but after reading one of the Mac Pro threads, I discovered my iMac still flies along. I'd like a laptop so I am able to record notes for my Engineering course without having write them down (my writing is really messy) and the dual booting will be handy considering my course is very Windows orientated.

Now:

G4 Sawtooth, modded mildly and running at 1.1gHz
ibook G4 1gHz
G3 b/w running at G4 500mHz
G3 imac

Next:

Current tower, whatever it is (likely around a quad 4 or 5 gHz)
Current pro laptop
Perhaps a current imac as well
(not at least until late 2008)

Why:

I prefer to buy low end top of the line and then run it until it becomes a hindrance. I have been running the Sawtooth since 2001 and it still holds its own, so I don't plan on replacing it any time soon. The imac runs ok for interns, and my ibook actually runs pretty damned well. In fact, it's most likely I'll replace the tower, shifting it to an inhouse server, first, and wait another year or two on the others...

What I have: See sig

What I'll get: dual core mini

When: Next revision

Where: for under the LCD TV as a music server and central photo viewing station

What I have now: MDD dual 1.25Ghz & 1.33 Ghz iBook

When I will get a new machine: The release of Rev. B Mac Pro or, at latest, the release of Leopard.

What I will get: Mac Pro the second most powerful version.

Why I will get it: I work in research so I need stability safety and enough horse powers for simulations. I need Botcamp to run some MS only apps. I need multiple HDs for ref material. Besides, work I need a machine that handles PS with ease.
