Studio setup - I am 6'6 and regular chairs kill me. This is a stand / sit setup i use with a tall drafting chair. It's an old tv stand i did a mod on. On wheels and swings out for rear access, nMP is behind the monitors

Since hearing that Walter Murch works standing up, I've been interested (I'm 1.95m / 6'4). How does standing at the desk work out for you? Did it take long to get used to? Any tips to share?

found out pretty quick that i don't like to stand for too long. Drafting chair is better for the knees, normal chair has me sort of a squat position - legs are too long. I stand when scanning negatives, don't have to climb in and out of the chair. Good way to sort the gear, works like a rackmount for sound - fits more stuff when stacked up high

I'm presently working on what will be my next desk.

It will be a stand up desk, but instead of using a drafting chair or stool, I will use a seat/backrest on a pole that can be pushed back out of the way. The idea behind it is that it's an unstable support, like those big ball in the gym, forcing you sit straight.

Something like this? http://www.varierfurniture.com/blog/tag/move/ I've actually sat on one of these exact stools, comfy but it takes some getting used to! Maybe I'm just too unsteady.

******* yeah! That's awesome man - sooo jealous!

My nMP on an old black desk in a rooftop bedroom corner office space. Patio doors lead out to the roof from just behind where I sit. The sun through the window on the left is brutal and the shade must be pulled down after lunch. Just a little view of the Pacific through the other buildings between me and the beach but the view up the canal is very nice. I won't see much of it when I buy a 34" LG widescreen next. My system has a 512GB Flash but my data resides on 2 little Oyen Digital U32 Shadow 1TB portable HD which I use with a MacBook Air to store data on the move. I'll buy something more permanent soon.

Very cool! I didn't know the back of the nMP lights up.

And it's probably not that important if you didn't know.

It's a cute gimmick, nothing more. It the port lights were optional, how much would you pay for something that you'd probably not see after the first week of owning the Tube? (I'm assuming that after a few days of fiddling around behind the Tube that you'd get a hub or docking station for the things that you need to often connect.)

Can't resist. So it's an old Macpro. But look MA! No cable mess! The Apple display is mounted on the wall. I can push it back and push the keyboard aside and I have my full desk to work on my real hobby. That is model trains. :)

If I had a nMP I would:

#1 - have to place it on my desk somewhere or on the shelf above.
#2 - have a cable mess to my hard drives that are currently internal

Granted I love the looks of the nMP I personally feel Apple failed with the lack of internal storage options.

Also a photo of the MacPro that controls the trains and a few shots of the trains :)

Love trains! What guage is that?

I think that not having 10 GbE NICs is a much bigger fail. What was Apple thinking with bringing out a system at the start of 2014 with only 1 GbE ???

Apple shouldn't pretend to be avant garde while putting out systems with 10 year old technology without a reasonable path to support mainstream 10 GbE networks. It's supposedly a professional workstation - but with all consumer parts?

I've recently ordered or received about 20 Compaq HP ProLiants with E5-26xxv2 processors and dual 10GbE ports. The order form has a check box to specify quad 1 GbE or dual 10 GbE as the mobo NICs.

You won't pay extra but looks come as a welcome bonus. Remember how Sun Sparcstations and Dec Alphas used to look like desktop PC's next to SGI Onyx and Octane workstations. The SGI 3D glasses cost more than a Mac Pro so I guess the budget for looking not bad is a minor issue. Plus the target market for SGI was a bit more sexy as it is with the Mac Pro these days. :D
