Honestly, even though it is a major fixer of Lion's problems, for people who don't own a iOS device, there's still a lot of charm in SnoLeo.
Just the other day I averted a major crisis (cause by M$ Office, obviously) because I had easy access to my Library folder (yes i know it's only hidden, but I don't like to tamper with terminal just to hide and unhide stuff, I always have the feeling I'm touching stuff way above my knowledge level).

As I said, to me, this looks like OSX 10.i
(i as in iOS, not as I roman numerals)

I think it's a great OS, if you own an iOS device.
if not, gimme 10.6.8 yummies. :p

just a note, I'm not an android user. I have a Blackberry due to professional reasons.

For the library issue, i just created an alias. It took like 10 seconds, and works just as well as the terminal method.

Why does a gold master have any known issues at all? Isn't the gold master version of software the actual release version? If so, how can there still be any known issues? I find this a very odd development.

There are no issues for the GM, it was for 10.7.5 that the issues were posted.

Well looks like my early 2008 MacBook is officially obsolete here soon. All because of a graphics card. :(

Mine too, my friend. I will upgrade to a new iMac when they are released assuming ML has some compelling reason to upgrade. Otherwise I'll hold until my MacBook won't do something I want to do.

If one were to install this onto their MacBook Air without having a developer account would it still work? Or do you need you MacBook registered like you need your iPhone's udid registered for iOS betas?

No you don't need a developer account. Ive been running ML since DP3. And for iOS 6, you no longer need a UDID registration. I had beta 1 on my iphone, but alas it was too buggy for a daily driver.

Where do you get the GM for ML without a developer account?

Dumb question, but the GM is pretty much what we'll see at retail in a couple of weeks, right? So it's stable enough to DL and install??

Dont want to mess up my iMac or anything.

Thanks, and sorry for the n00b question, just trust your opinions...

Yes, the GM should be identical to what Apple releases as the final release. That is the point of the GM. Its safe to install with 0.000001% chance of something wrong happening that Apple doesnt know exists and no one caught after months and months of testing. Go ahead and install if you dont want to wait.

just looking at the picture...

...offline reading list...

...password autofill in safari...

Can they seriously tout these as features for a new os?

They better hurry up with the service pack to lion, cause I can't stand another day running it...

I am still very annoyed with them for not using the latest darwin kernel on os x and ios using it instead. We are well aware they are bs-ing instead of developing for os x, but to have os x be a kernel behind ios is just adding insult to injury...

p.s. I hope someone has been working too on their piss poor smb implementation, we can't properly access industry standard networks anymore thanks to apple.

And even if something is wrong the keep the GM and release an update for everyone shortly after or at public release anyway

When you get osx 10.8 running on your Mac Pro 1,1, please tell me how you were able to manage it so i can load it on mine.

Done. Posting this from my 1,1 upgraded to 2,1 running the GM of Mountain Lion. Use the step by step here:

http://www.jabbawok.net/?p=47

2 things:

Your boot partition for chameleon and the install for Mountain Lion can be on the same partition.

You need to physically remove the GeForce 7300 if it's in your system, it will cause kernel panics.

I hate to say it, but I'm a bit underwhelmed by Mountain Lion's new features. Watching the video, there's only a few of them that seemed useful to me, and nothing I've seen has excited me enough to anticipate the release. Maybe because I'm not a big social person, I don't use FaceBook at all and while I do use Twitter, I could live without it. Probably still a decent value at $20 but I can't remember ever being this apathetic about an OS X release.

Just as Snow Leopard corrected a lot of the wrongs in Leopard, I suspect Mountain Lion will do the same to Lion. A lot of under-the-hood bug fixes, and righting really stupid UX decisions (e.g., removing Save As...). Even though some of these appear on the giant list of new features in ML, there are probably many more "repairs" to the performance and stability of the OS that aren't mentioned.

Also, Lion handled iCloud very poorly (Docs in the Cloud was/is atrocious). That, coupled with various things that broke going from 10.6 to 10.7, makes me think ML is really what Apple wanted for Lion, but couldn't ship.

I think it's more of a "want it right now" thing.

From what I have seen, the folks who desperately want the software "NOW" are those that doesn't generally use their machines for daily workflows that produce cash flow. If you make money on your Mac, and are responsible (that is, you don't take risks) there is no way you upgrade to the latest OS the day it comes out. That is just silly. I'm sure that there are "professionals" on the forums who will claim to upgrade the second the new OS's come out, and hey that's fine if you want to risk your products not working out of the gate, or run into some weird compatibility issue halfway through your workflow. I remember lots of circumstances of that happening when 10.5 was release, specifically with the CS suite.

I come from 24 years of windows, got my first macbook pro now, and I will be installing ML to make money, because I really dislike Lion, that said my macbook pro is very new.

I see the panic a lot from mac users about new OS versions but I still have a hard time figuring why, because on PC, when it comes to big important software packages it's the packages themselves people don't upgrade instantly due to plugin support etc. if you run winxp, win7 or win8 preview really doesn't matter. Autodesk products and Adobe products perform just fine. Upgrading from CS5 to CS6 how ever can cause headaches if you are too quick.

Anyway Im not saying you are wrong, I guess im just curious to get a bit more factual information on this matter (now that I have a macbook myself).

And yet Kotoeri languishes version after version. Japan's supposed to be a primary market for Apple. Why don't we get handwriting support too? It's practically already there.

Handwriting support still not there? Bloody hell, come on Apple, my trackpad deserves it. Or perhaps the Japanese already know all the kanji so don't need this feature? Nope.

I'm a bit concerned with some of the known issues and this being called a gm. Known kernel panic and known login screen issue with FileVault. Both f those are a big deal. N why would this be labeled gm. Not good practice IMO. On the former they may wait to roll a graphics update but the FileVault issue is surprising.

I think it's been found that the release note you are referencing is not for the GM.

Just to be sure: Will I be able to update to 10.8.1 and so on, with this?

Yes but when the final is released you should probably just put out the $20 and do it right. I understand the early adoption deal (I'm the same way). But still do the update.
