I'm a bit concerned with some of the known issues and this being called a gm. Known kernel panic and known login screen issue with FileVault. Both f those are a big deal. N why would this be labeled gm. Not good practice IMO. On the former they may wait to roll a graphics update but the FileVault issue is surprising.

Not very surprising if they don't put due diligence in their development...

No you don't need a developer account. Ive been running ML since DP3. And for iOS 6, you no longer need a UDID registration. I had beta 1 on my iphone, but alas it was too buggy for a daily driver.

thanks! now, how do I go about installing this over the lion osx that came with my MacBook air? I mean, how do install over the lion and not partition?

Sounds good.
You seem to have tested it a bit. Do you know if any of these things from Lion (and previously) has been taken care of?

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2096906/app_switcher_darkened_icons.m4v
This doesn't happen often and only seems to get ”triggered” when there's quite a lot of apps running (maybe 20 or so). It's been there for me since 10.5 I think.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2096906/mouse_cursor_update_through_menu.m4v
Mouse cursor updates ”through” Dock menu even if it shouldn't.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2096906/no_proper_cursor_update_in_textedit.m4v
Mouse cursor doesn't update properly in TextEdit.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2096906/unexpected_column_resize_behaviour.m4v
Double-clicking a column resize-handle in the Finder when using any of the ”Arrange” views in Lion doesn't make the column fit the item with the longest (widest) name.

Another thing with the ”Arrange” feature that is a bit stupid (which I really like it otherwise) is that when having a finder window sorted as list and an arrange by ”Date Added” and typing a file name to select it, it can be that the file that gets selected shows up underneath the day label, which makes it quite hard to spot:

Just a few small examples I'm curios about if they've gotten any attention. Maybe I'm just being picky, but to me it seems Apple is quite often lacking their famous ”attention to detail”. :-/

Instead of posting here you vould have reporter it at bugreport.apple.com

Apple is NOT monitoring these threads!

Is GM the same as the final release for the public?

yes. and no.

The term comes from when they had to lock the software to press disks and such. So in that sense yes it was the final build.

But with digital downloads the GM isn't always the Final Build. It's what they hope will be the final build but if someone uncovers a bug in the next few days it won't be the final cause they will fix the bugs. The real Final Build could happen as late as the night before they flip the switch

Does Apple load the GM on to laptops (such as new Macbook Pros) that are starting to ship out in a few weeks or does it wait for the final version?

They will wait for the final version.

all we need now is an iWork update and I will be over the moon!

and we will get one. After all, iWork needs to be updated for the new share sheets etc. Same with iLife.

Now will that 'update' be a point release or some new fancy overhaul with a '12 or some such stuck on it and we have to pay again, who knows. Personally I don't care if they do or they don't do a total overhaul at this point. That said, I wouldn't mind if iWork got the sliding 'inspector' like iPhoto has. I find that much better than a bunch of pop up windows

How about you do not violate the terms of the message board. Reported.

The saddest thing, is that I am on a 100Mbit connection in Japan, yet been downloading for 3 hours and still 3 to go on the App Store.

Just started an 'alternative' download, and am getting 10MB p/s.

Would be nice if Apple could match or even come close to the 'shadier' CDN...

Sort of. There's an option to ungroup windows in Mission Control, now they don't overlap. It's pretty much all-window expose from 10.6.

YES. Seriously this "feature" alone is pushing me to fork over the $20 for the upgrade..

I'm guessing you don't work in software development, because if you did you would understand why they don't.

In the 'old' days, it was often the case that companies would release dates for their software but now people are testing & fixing right up to the wire. They obviously will have a target date but if something happens then its better to fix it and delay the release date than ship with a known problem which would cost more to the company not to fix.

We're working on our latest FixPack and while we want to get it out the door this month all the customers know is its coming very soon but no more. At the moment I can see us slipping by a few days as we have too many fixes still going in to shut off the code stream. When a single problem in the field can cost $10,000+ to fix, a week delay on release can be well worth it (Considering you can fix 100's of problems in that time.

I do know this and it doesn't change the fact that I hate it haha :)
