"search annotations in preview".

That alone settles it for me. Now if the experience could only be improved enough for me to rely on annotations for ad hoc categorization of content, id be in sixth heaven! Hopefully, ML will also take care of all the shiety memory leaks and improper memory handling found in Lion: there is no reason why a 2012 computer should perform worse than a 2006 one.

You're EXACTLY the kind of misinformed consumer that I'm talking about.

Stealing, in the eyes of the law, is depriving actual physical property from someone else. In the case of the GM that's out now, I couldn't buy it if I wanted to. Downloading it, in the eyes of the law, is not stealing.

You come across as somebody who likes to automatically belittle people who don't agree with you.

In no way did i even give my own opinion on weather or not i think there is anything morally wrong with or even if i have or have not taken part in it myself.

I just found it surprising to see somebody make a comment saying they "don't understand" people who believe something is wrong and as such refuse to take part in it, almost as a justification of the act.

You and many others may not see it as stealing but there are those who not only see it as such but also do not wish to take part in it. you also automatically group these people together as fanatics who do not even understand their own moral decision.

Not to mention in many parts of the world stealing is defined as the taking of another persons property ( without their consent. That is property regardless of type. You can legally own something that is not a physical object.

You probably aren't even aware that of the miniscule few that have been taken to court for piracy, the charges are DISTRIBUTING copyrighted material, which is, technically, a crime. Of course, the media companies wrote the overreaching laws that made "criminals" out of some people that, to me, are far less guilty of any wrong than the criminals buying our Congressmen off in order to write those laws. Educate yourself before you spout off.

I am well aware of the legal battles that have been fought in this area but unlike you am also aware that there are many stances people take that differ to my own. While i may not agree with them all i do understand their arguments and would never automatically label somebody as a religious fanatic just because they don't agree with me.

Or just keep nodding your head and being a good little consumer.

I'll do just that. While paying for only the things i find worth my money.

Some people are complaining about the price, saying that this is not an upgrade worth $19… Well, let's analyze the latest prices for OSX:

SnowLeo(10.6): $29.00
Lion(10.7): $29.99
MLion(10.8): $19.99

So, if you haven't bought any new mac since Leopard (10.5, released in 2007), and you've been upgrading your OS consistently, you will have a maximum total of $78.98 spent on OS X upgrades when ML(10.8) comes out.

The mid 2007 iMacs and Macbook pro's that came with Leopard, are still able to run Mountain Lion. So, do you consider the differences between Leopard (10.5) and Mountain Lion (10.8) a "Full System Upgrade" or a "Service Pack Upgrade"?

I believe ML is different enough from Leopard to be considered a full upgrade, so you've paid 78.98 for it!

Now, how much windows users have paid to go from Vista to Windows 7? $219.99.

In conclusion: I'm happy with OS X prices. ;)

Way to cherry pick the Win 7 version to make your point. Also, if you buy W7 today, it will still be supported 2020. Will Apple support ML in 2015?

All i'm waiting for now is a Twitter app that takes advantage of Notifications so i don't get directed to Twitter.com every time i respond to a notification. But other than that, i have no complaints about Mountain Lion so far. It definitely feels like this is what Lion was supposed to be. I liked Lion, but this is a noticeable step up in terms of polish and smoothness.

Clean installation failed

Hi all,
I have following the restore on USB stick (no error, everything seems to be ok), and i am unable to boot on it and get a no entry sign after few seconds.
The USB stick is showing as a bootable device, and begin booting properly, but stall on no entry sign.
I have checked the MD5 sum of installesd.dmg, and it's ok.
I have tried on a macbook air 2012 and macbook pro 15'' 2011, same results.
I have upgraded from 10.7.4, no problem, 10.8 GM build is installed and run fine, but unable to install from scratch...

An idea ?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know with the retina mbp ram is soldered on the mainboard. No more OWC or Crucial - the Apple way or the highway. ;)

There is always the other notebooks in Apples lineup that have user replaceable RAM. Or, the iMac, or the Mac Pro. Those didn't suddenly become crap machines simply because Apple released an eye candy rMBP (I say that lovingly, because the screen is, in a word, amazing).

I'd have to agree with you here. I dunno...it is in Apples DNA to be secretive, unless you pay the the $99 for a dev account. So that kinda leads me to tentatively conclude it is all about the $.

Yup. Assuming all goes smoothly, the lights are green :)

Side note, glad they "fixed" Exposé by allowing ungrouping windows by application. With "TotalSpaces" bringing 10.5/6 "Spaces" to 10.7/8, this should be a solid update. Memory management is much improved.

You gotta be friggin' kidding me. You mean I went a year wanting classic expose without knowing about TotalSpaces?! Son of a b****!! :-(

******* you Apple, still a not working Wi-Fi Connection using OS X 10.8 on my MacBook Pro 2011 and Wi-Fi is also not working on my iMac 21,5" 2011.

It says it is connected to the Wi-Fi network, but when opening App Store or Safari it says it's unpossible to load the page...

I tried to reset my wireless modem (ZTE H220N) but that doesn't help.

Yup

"Dem bums" have to work hard to convince users to upgrade. Apple has no such problems.

I converted to mac about 5 years ago because I was tired of windows updates constantly using system resources. I've had no such problem with OSX. I know I'm not the only convert though and if enough people jump ship I think the focus of all the young hacklettes will start aiming at OSX. Maybe it's awhile off though because mac costs so much more to buy the hardware. Unless, hackintosh boxes start popping up all over the world.

Installed on my MBA C2D 2010 vintage. I got an update alert in the Appstore - Macbook Air SMC Firmware 1.4 update for Mountain Lion. Can't find much info on what this is meant to fix. Does it just cause your fans to permaspin?
How's the experience so far on your 2010 Air?

Sure, for now, but not too much longer as far as the notebooks are concerned:

The way it goes is pretty clear ...

No $h!t, sherlock. It's not about whether it's a physical object or not. It's about whether (not "weather" - people might take you more seriously if you learn to spell) one is depriving another of property. If someone makes an exact copy of the GM of Mountain Lion, the original still exists. Apple hasn't been deprived of anything.

When you actually care enough to go learn about the history of copyright law in the developed world, then I'll start listening to your opinions. It's obvious you haven't done that yet.
