Does anyone else kind of dislike how the app store is now? You have to hit more>choose updates or redeem. Instead of "more" shouldn't it just be "Updates" (like previous versions) with a link to redeem in the top right corner of the update screen? It seems like an unnecessary click.

You can customize it show the items you want it to. (You can also do this in the iTunes Store and iPod app)

Noticed this when I had my iPhone plugged into my Alpine iDA x100:

When playing a song with a power source plugged in, the lock screen now shows album art instead of the battery indicator.

Maybe someone with 2.2.1 could confirm. I don't remember it being that way.

He is correct, I just tried it on my iPhone running 2.2.1

I was pretty sure it was new-- it was one of the first things I noticed (since I have somewhat of a commute to work).

I know. But doesn't it make more sense to have Featured, Categories, Top 25, Search, and then updates (with a button in the right hand corner for redeeming codes). If there was one more category I could see them needing to put the word "more" there. It just seems that Apple could have had a shortcut for every part of the app store and just put the redeem thing on the update (or wherever itunes does it). To be honest it's really not a big deal I just find it slightly strange.

Playlist Folder support?

Can anyone say whether playlist folders are now supported? I use them in iTunes and used them a lot with my iPod 5g, and really miss them in my Touch.

(I searched the thread for "folders" and found nothing, so apologies if this has been revealed somewhere else in this thread -- I haven't had the time yet to backtrack through the whole thing).

Nope.

However, there is nothing to stop you from simply making a playlist in iTunes and playing that on your iPhone.

Camera and Find my iphone

Ok... having a 2G phone (until friday) I've tested the find my iphone with the 2G... it doesn't work, not that I was surprised.. I figured it would be using GPS to locate the phone, mobileme says I need to activate it on my phone. But I can't find the panel.. (meaning, it's probably not activated on the 2G)..

On the plus side, I don't know if this has been said before.. but the camera is significantly Faster. I have been purposely trying to take "motion blur" pics with 3.0 and I can't. Every pic, regardless of handshakes is crisper - this is a god send.

the Find My "iPhone" works with the iPod Touch 2g, only it's called "Find My iPod Touch". i'll try to find a link.

EDIT: well i can't find the screenshot i found before but if you go here and look at the 6th comment, it says that he tested it and it works.

This is same for iPod Touch 2G. On iPod Touch 2G, the service is called “Find My iPod touch”, I can confirm this since I tested it, and saw this feature, and decided to google it and found this article. So I doubt it is GPS unless the iPod Touch has GPS which I highly doubt.

Thanks. Yeah, I already use playlists to manage the Touch library (my complete library won't fit). I use a variety of smart playlists and a couple "mixes". It can get to be a lot to scroll through. The folders make life easy in iTunes. Was hoping it'd be as easy on the Touch. Ah well. With cut/copy/paste, it'll be easier for me to write a request to Apple to add the feature later.:)

iPod App now reconizes Japanese hiragana and lists it in the right order if you insert the spelling into iTunes.

Although the contact App already used it since 2.0, concerning the iPod App it's a new feature in 3.0.

May have been covered a long time ago but screenshots are now appearing in the same folder under windows explorer as the normal camera photos.

Here you go! Hopefully this is what you meant :D

That looks to me like you've just got two email accounts, Gmail and MobileMe. I think we'd like to know if there is MobileMe alias support in OS 3.0. For example my default MobileMe account might be bob@me.com, but I can set up aliases such as bob.smith@me.com.

In OS 2.0 aliases weren't supported, having installed the 3.0 GM it looks to me as though they still are not supported. Very dissapointing.

idk if someone already posted this...

nevertheless i noticed this today...

In More, tap Edit then drag the icons down to where you want them. This way if you want updates as a one button option you can just move the icon to the bottom.

I don't know if this was already posted or was already there, but when viewing music videos in the iPod app they now play in portrait mode rather than an image of the video.

i'll add that to the list but what's new about it? i don't have an iPhone so i'm not sure what is new.

prior to 3.0 this information wasn't displayed... it would be just like 11:55,12:00 when the same call was made but now as you can see it says when how long incoming and outgoing for that day... alot more organized

another quick observation...

safari seems to load webpage even after you close the safari app... never noticed this prior to 3.0.. confirm?

i think that's old but i'm not 100% sure. can someone try this out on 2.2.1. just open safari, navigate to a web page, while the web page is loading close safari, wait a little bit, then re-open safari to see if the page is loaded all the way.

Another new feature I noticed today is that incoming calls "ring" over a bluetooth headset while the iPhone is on silent. In 2.2.1, when a call came in, my car's radio would mute and I would see the caller info screen, but no other sound. Now it plays a "ring, ring" sound through the stereo. A nice change in my opinion.

I also noticed that pushing the home button returns you to the first screen of apps. Pushing it again takes you to the search screen. Pushing each time thereafter toggles between those screens.
