Wanted to add that I found a complete, clean, and unabashed single EL Cap 10.11.6 dmg file for download. Couldn't find one for ever and a day it seemed, and when I did, it was usually for a windows install or for vmware. If there's any interest, I'll post a link. Download took 3 1/2 hours but its worth it :D

5gb of RAM is unusual.
How many modules do you have, and what size is each module?

El Capitan is very sensitive to low capacity RAM modules. If you have any 512Mb modules installed, you should remove them. They are known to cause random crashes. There have also been a small number of reports from users with 1GB modules. Users who have taken our advice to remove 512mb and 1GB modules (replacing with 2 or 4GB modules) have reported stable machines.

Hello everyone,

Today I updated the Pikify App to version 1.9. This version:
  • Fixed a few bugs
  • Introduces a new feature
    • The App will now detect an existing Data folder, presenting you with 2 choices
      1. Build new: if you choose this option the existing Data folder is deleted, and a new one is created.
      2. Re-use existing: If you choose this option the Data folder is re-blessed to make it bootable once more...
  • I have finally added a help book ;)

To my knowledge, this is the last kernel that works on 1,1 and 2,1 Mac Pro.
Note that it´s not only the kernel alone that ups you to 15G22008 (or in the meantime 15G22010 - which I have not yet tried).

Thank you. I did not wait for the reply and found the kernel from the 2017-005 pkg. using pacifist. Is that the same last one? Wait, no the one I have is november this one says december. Is there an even newer one that works? Really I guess there is only so many options 2017-004 was Oct and -005 was Dec. Not sure why the date of my file says Nov maybe the dates are off on one of my clocks?

Anyway did not work until doing the cache rebuild and its now showing 2018-003. Before even looking it up tried replacing the boot.efis though I thought I had a script installed that did that automatically.

I see that I don't have the latest kernel installed (did a compare and they are not the same). My kernel says: Darwin Kernel Version 15.6.0: Thu Jun 23 18:25:34 PDT 2016
Your Kernel: Darwin Kernel Version 15.6.0: Tue Dec 19 10:45:03 PST 2017

I did a clean install from the orginal insaller yesterday - and didn't install any 2017 updates. I only installed the 2018-3 update. So that's why I have a really old kernel (and still everything works fine :) )

... think I need to update mine ;)

Yeah, but folks - as I noted above: It´s not only the kernel that´s in the security updates! Some kexts, Apps and framework bundles are also updated. So I really recommend to load the 2018-003 sec. update and replace the kernel to the 2017 build afterwards - again, as described above.
As soon as the final 2018-004 comes out (at the moment it´s beta 4) I´ll install it and report (success, hopefully).

No worry - I did the 2018-003 update. I will explain what happened, I did a complete clean installation and made a backup from that kernel (which was the 2016 kernel). So after updated to 2018-003 update I copied the 2016 kernel back. Normally you have a 2017 kernel - but not if you create a complete clean installation.

I changed my configuration to 4x2GB and the system seems to be rock solid again. Thanks!

It was released three hours ago (11:00 CEST). System version is 15G22010.

Great info about issueing the touch command via terminal. Seems that it does the same for you as the disk tool does to my machines for booting. Mind if I include this in an edit of the "semi-original" post above?

Thanks for that advice, is it possible (when new KErnel is updated) to just throw El Capitan back on the Machine and keep all the Apps and Plugins as they are right now, or is it necessary to re-install all apps and stuff? As this would be a pain in the ****
