I’ve got a 10.5, and I won’t be upgrading just because I don’t need to and Apple products are expensive. The 10.5 is truly great, and iOS doesn’t have many apps that can even take advantage of all of its power right now.

-I know the new cpu will be amazing but that’s bound to happen with every new model
-More RAM isn’t going to help with much unless the iPad can have a more advanced OS.
-The refresh rate will probably be the same, but who knows
-I prefer Touch ID for now, maybe the idea of Face ID will grow on me though

The only things I’d really be jealous of (right away at least) are smaller bezels and a better camera. I doubt the new iPad Pro will have a dual lens camera though. It’ll get the one the iPhone 8 has.

Everything you posted except for number 8. We are talking about an iPad here not an iPhone. Don’t need dual cameras on a 12.9 incher.
Nobody “needs” anything when it comes to electronics like this. ;)
Sorry I had to be annoying there cause I can’t help when I hear the words “don’t need or need” regarding things like iPads or all these convenient electronics/items. :)

I’d be careful to assume people want exactly what you do. I myself am not you... nor is anyone else. You may think a dual camera is not wanted, but I’m sure people wouldn’t mind. I want one so I can have portrait mode, better OIS, and take pictures/videos in 4K 60fps right on my iPad for full hi-res editing.

Kallum.

Well touch ID is crap what i want to see is a fingerprint scanner embedded in the edge to edge display

Never say never, but given the price of new iPads and the resale prices of used ones (what I could get for a year old iPad) the 2018 model would have to be damn special for me to consider it. The addition of a new processor or 3D Touch won't be enough. I certainly don't need more storage -- same 256GB that my MBP has! Cameras are fine, don't need TrueDepth here.

I'd be perfectly fine if Apple took a year off from updates and concentrated on iOS 12 and revamping the very dated and ignored iWorks apps.

After just upgrading my Mini 4 to the 10.5 Pro, I have no intention on upgrading for a least another couple of years. That is unless iOS 12 or 13 make my Pro unusable. Which I doubt.

People still buy iPads yearly? Wow.

Also I think having a full screen bezel less device at this scale odd. You grip versus hold and the bezel is perfect on the iPP for that.
There will still be some bezel though.

Having a 11 inch screen in the form factor of the 10.5 Pro would be pretty cool. Still not sure on how good Face ID will be on the iPad when on a desk. I use my Pro everyday at work so last thing I would want is to put passcodes in every time. I’m sure will be fine though.

Yup, I do. It’s my main computer so I don’t mind the minimal upgrade cost. It’s usually about $200 for the year. I won’t mind less bezel, I use mine mostly with my palm and fingers behind either side or propped up in the Apple Smart Keyboard. More screen space is always welcome, as long as it remains mobile.

I will absolutely be upgrading unless the new iPads are somehow disappointing which seems unlikely.

The question is really which model to choose. An 11 inch iPad is less of an increase in screen size than 10.5 was over 9.7 so I imagine I will be going for the larger model. Until we can see what the new screen configurations are it’s impossible to say.

Do you think the iPad Pro 2017 to 2018 will be as big a jump as iPhone 7 to iPhone X?

No, I won‘t. Touch ID is reliable enough and as I‘m on iPhone 8+ as well, I don‘t miss Face ID here. Another question: Why isn‘t this a poll?

I might IF it includes the A12X. You would have to be an idiot to buy it if they threw in the A11X. Since Apple is likely to release it at the same time as the X2 or after it should include the latest Processor. At this price point there is no way in hell am I buying a half baked iPad with last years chip. I don't care how much faster it is than the A10X, it will still be a generation behind the 2018 iPhones.

why didn’t they include an A11X in last years iPad Pro? It was released around the same time as iPhone X.

The iPad Pro was released in June 2017 and the iPhone X in September. That's perfectly understandable. Now, if they pull this crap again in the fall then I will be very upset.

And the A11(X) is a huge jump forward in multithreading. Before A11, only the performance cores OR the small cores worked. With A11 and upwards, the phone can access every core on the processor at the same time.

iPad Pro Is still powerful though.

I purchased my 10.5” iPad Pro in June 2017, but honestly think I may well upgrade if the 2018 models do come with Face ID.

Any others who recently purchased an iPad Pro considering the same? Or would that not be worth it?

No, I can't think of much that would improve on my 10.5 other than OLED (unlikely due to cost) or type c input (unlikely, but on it's own not enough to make me upgrade). And FaceID or smaller bezels would be huge negatives to me (I utterly despise FaceId on my iPhone X, the Touch ID on my iPad is way better IMO).

I agree about the OLED screen and everything else you brought up. And I also agree that OLED won't happen because of the cost.

I have a Samsung tablet from 2014, that I use for watching videos (that's all it is good for now) and that screen is better than the iPP 10.5 screen. If the rest of the hardware in Samsung tablets weren't so lame, I'd probably be using a current Samsung tablet.

I also think face ID might be problematic depending upon where the projection beam comes from. I use my tablet in landscape mode most of the time and my thumbs are on the black bezels. Could be another case of you're holding it wrong.

Yep, I will definitely hold on to my 2017 one. A10X is enough for me, and Touch ID works great (i have a 8+ phone so I don‘t miss Face ID as I‘m not used to it). These tablets are meant to last!

So im kinda is a crappy situation. I had a gen 1 12.9" ipad pro and I was planning on upgrading to the new one when it gets released. Well just the other day my screen took a crap. Solid white with a band across it and of course my applecare expired last month.

Hope the new ipad comes out soon cuz it sucks not having one.
