Well maybe I was lurking around in the wrong threads then. Some of the threads posted here got quite toxic. It was something else. But I agree that when it mattered the most, the MR community came together and did the correct job of collecting the crucial data and working on their own 3rd party fixes before Apple released the official fix.
He tested each for games...games on a Mac? I giggle. This review feels very forced and just a bunch of rehashed information.
The hotfix was for MacOS only and doesn't work in bootcamp, which is what you'd be using to play any games, no?
Way better on my new 13", steady 3ghz+ under prolonged load.
What annoys me though is that video was most likely shot before the patch and yet published after!
It was likely shot by an internal test device, that didn't necessarily need the patch, because it had a developer-generated digital key installed.
I am not against testing Mac for games, specially Fortnite. Apple is advertising it as one of the many uses of the new MBP and also Fortnite is built on Metal, it was even announced in one of the past WWDCs.

Fortnite has a Mac OS version and is built upon Metal. It should perform well on the new MBP.
This is 2.6 not 2.9....
What makes you think he received a review unit with the key installed yet not Dave2D, Linus, or any other the other big YouTubers who experienced throttling?
Any musician here? Can we create a MR song?
Fortnite seems to be still stuttering even after the fix.. but why! This doesn’t make any sense!

I tried this out as I was looking forward to casually play this game on the i9 version, but it is really bad. I'm now actually reinstalling the game to see if something went wrong with my original install, because it can/shouldn't be this bad.Fortnite seems to be still stuttering even after the fix.. but why! The game barely gets passed the loading screen, skips the initial area to drop you right into the game and then stutters most of the time with low framerates at any settings.
Its better on Bootcamp with Intel XTU; playable at 1080p with FPS ranging from 40-60 with some drops.

I suspect it was networking issues in part and Fornite could have better GPU optimization (that tearing at 60 fps, occasional hiccups). Our network is strong and fast 802.11ac, but I've seen this Mac have problems if not close to the access point (our studio is 16 feet from the nearest access point). Our 13" 2018 MacBook Pro has less stuttering but half the frame rate on the same medium settings in Fortnite.
Yes Bootcamp is a lot better, nothing like the problems that you get within MacOs. I really want to see the game benchmarked with a capable eGPU, because I don't think the CPU is the limiting factor in this game as long as it doesn't get throttled to 800mhz. My instinct is that you should be able to get pretty high framerates with a 1070/1080 attached to it in Bootcamp. It is a Fortnite issue apparently. Everyone is complaining about it, not specific to 2018 MBP. https://www.epicgames.com/fortnite/...-cheese/146807-report-mac-problems-here/page8
This feels better.
Regarding Windows, by frame drop you mean within the range and not insane stutter like the one on Mac, right?
Gaming benchmarks on Bootcamp (power limit using Intel XTU as Apple’s patch doesn’t affect Bootcamp yet) according to this video:
Actually not bad at all. Never expect the 560X to do this good.
