My building concierge has just signed for mine, according to the tracking... (UK-based) Ordered on launch day as it replaces an ipad 2 and an ipad mini 1....

I see. I should have made up my mind and pulled the trigger on launch day. I ended up placing an order last night. Almost immediately went to "preparing to ship" status. I expect that it will probably ship today. Expected delivery is Tuesday-Wednesday, which makes sense and is still very fast given that both tomorrow and Monday are holidays.

I guess I can look forward to tracking it over the long weekend, which is fun in a way. I know that this iPad is nothing mind blowing, but waiting for a new tech toy is always exciting. :)

The funny thing is, it's now available for pick up today at my local Apple Store! Too late to change my order to pickup though.

Ugh, dilemma. Really tempted by the 2018 iPad but knowing me, I'm gonna regret not getting 128GB LTE (+$230) which would almost double the price. I have a 128GB iPad 4 LTE kept on iOS 6 (both for the novelty and nostalgia as well as occasional side by side performance comparison with newer iPads). If I trade in the iPad 4, that's $105 towards the new iPad. Would likely regret giving the iPad 4 up, though. Decisions, decisions.

Do you find that you need LTE a lot on your iPad? I've always been fine just with wifi on my tablets. Probably 99% of my use is in places with reliable wifi, and the other 1% I just make a hotspot with my phone.

This is just an extra iPad so it won't need cellular all the time but on trips abroad, we find built-in cellular to be invaluable. We actually use the iPad to tether the laptop since the iPad pretty much just stays in the rented condo while the various iPhones are in and out.

To be perfectly honest, this really is more of gadget/toy for me so I don't want to spend a lot. :p

Again, price.. And if you want a better screen, there is always the Pros.

Speaking of price... As I recall, except for iPhone X, usually Apple announces new products with better specs but stay at the same price.

If the iPad Pro 12.9" 2018 (some people called iPad PRO X?) has those features found on the iPhone X, how likely will the price stay the same or similar to the current one?

That would depend on a lot of conditions. LCD/OLED? New/faster LTE chip? Storage? Processor? You can't just say "oh, it's iPhone X based so it will be $### more expensive". Apple will do what Apple wants to do. Not much we can do about it, and when it comes to tablets, there really isn't any competition. (And don't pull out windows craplets as competition.)

I guess we heard that Apple is not going to use OLED this year. As for faster LTE chip, do you mean one that supports 5G? I don' think 5G network is available in North America yet.

I was really hoping this new iPad did get a RAM bump to maybe 3GB but thats not the case. Still at 2GB. Im being stubborn with my iPad Air1 but for my uses its still mostly woking for me. Its age is clearly showing though. I have to do something here. Im thinking for a low cash outlay I can just go with a 2017 iPad with LTE and trade in my Air1. I realize the Pros are worth the upcharge but I just dont wanna go there right now.

This 2018 iPad base model adds pencil support and a new chip. Nice, but hardly worth a few hundred bucks, IMO. If it had the screen or RAM update its a no brainer. But it doesnt.

The iPhone 7 remained at 2GB and Apple only installed 3GB on the iPhone 7 Plus instead of a full 4GB. Honestly, I didn't really expect them to go more than 2GB on what is essentially a budget iPad. Apple has always skimped on RAM.

Mind, if you consider the entry level 32GB WiFi only models, difference isn't several hundred bucks. More like $50-80 with clearance/refurb discounts.

If the majority users still use 2GB RAM iPad, I guess developers try to make their apps to run within that constraint?

I plan to use LiquidText heavily. Not sure if 2GB allows that app to run sufficiently well.

Yes that's good. The thing is iOS. iOS 11 already limits what 2GB can do... I can only imagine it gets worse. They had never launched a device that is the newest, yet it cannot do what older devices can.

It works on iOS 9 which still supports devices with 512MB RAM. I wouldn't really worry about 2GB just yet.

[doublepost=1522369437][/doublepost]I also ordered late last night. The original stated date for delivery was this coming Tuesday or Wednesday. I just checked and it is being delivered tomorrow.

Just got notification that mine shipped a few minutes ago. Expected delivery is still Tuesday though. Because of the 4 day weekend, that is the next business day. I don't think that UPS Canada delivers on holidays or weekends for standard shipping, but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong.

Just received our two iPad 6th Gens via UPS this morning. These are replacing some ancient iPad 2's for dev testing and trade shows! Took them out of box and placed into some TPU cases.

Yeah - I really have to have LTE support though so most of the discounts or sales dont apply. Ill have to shop around and see what comes up. Id like to try the 2017 model against the 2018 myself to see and feel the real difference.

2GB RAM was expected, I know. Thats apple, right? ;)
