Hmm... using while charging the power actually just went down 1%. I’m thinking this 10W charger is not sufficient.

Okay, this was on me. Had it connected to a faulty extension cord. But everything else I said about slow charging is true.

If you haven’t already, suggest to try not using an extension cord at all and plug directly into the wall outlet. I’ve read extension cords can cause all kinds of issues.

I've been using the same power brick + extension cord combo to charge my devices when at home for many years now. There's no doubt about it, the 2018 iPad doesn't charge terribly fast compared to other devices.

My previous comment where I said that it actually lost power while plugged in was definitely due to the extension cord though.

In any case, if this is the worst thing about the tablet (and so far, I can't think of any other issues) then I am not complaining! The battery life if fantastic, so it's not like I will need to charge it frequently anyway.

Yes, I agree. If it’s the same cord as before for previous devices and worked fine, it should work now just as well. My 5th gen is probably the same charge rate as yours, but I just plug it in for overnight and never reallly know. The 5th and 6th gens are really impressive, and I couldn’t be more pleased. Glad you’re enjoying your new 6th gen as well.

I just bought one since the price point and basic features are really good. It does come with a 12W charger. At least mine did. So it charges pretty quick.

Ouch. Well, should I get one, I'll make sure to hold onto the 29W charger I use for my 12.9 Pro.
Afaik, only the Pro supports fast charging. Wasn't 12W the highest supported for normal iPads? You can use the 29W but it will still only charge at 12W.

I must once again state that charging is slooooow though!
Seems to be only like 20% per hour at best.
I don't believe it's 20% per hour (unless you're using the device while charging). Even my iPad 3 only took 5 hours to fully charge, iirc, and the battery on that was considerably bigger.

I would use the standard adapter that came with the iPad (or equivalent similar wattage) to be on the safe side. The iPad may self regulate to prevent exceeding limits from rapid charging, by why challenge that and risk potential issues.

May have been a bit of a conservative estimate. Maybe 25% per hour. A little bit of light use while charging.

I don't think so. I use that charger on my iPhone SE and iPod Touch (in a pinch). They charge significantly faster using that charger compared to the 10W and 12W chargers I usually use.

Purchased my new 128gb Space Gray iPad today, I too was surprised to see a 10w UK power adapter included as I’d expected a 12w.

Not because of anything I have read about chargers and such, but I ended up returning my 2018 iPad before opening it. It was going to be for my daughter while overseas for college, but she does not use her 5th Gen very often.

What other devices do you own that charge faster? I asssume you don’t have an iPad Pro as well, unless you like to collect iPads like I do.

What @rui no onna mentioned is correct though - Only the iPad Pros are known to support 29W fast charging, and only with an Apple USB-C to lightning cable and a USB-C PD charger - a lot of specialized equipment needed.

All modern iPhones and iPads should support 12W charging though, which almost any third party USB-A charger supports, along with just about any MFi lightning cable (or maybe some non-MFi ones)

Just got the 2018 iPad. Coming from an iPad mini a few years ago and not bring able to afford an iPad Pro for a premium drawing experience, and missing it a lot, it’s a VERY nice surprise.

Something that once took 700 dollars to buy, is now budgeted and affordable for me. And the pencil support and accuracy is nearly identical (according to several comparisons) minus the 120hz which I’ve never owned so I don’t care about that. I’m sure I will when it makes it way to iPhones but for now, this is pretty insane for a 329$ tablet.

Am pretty sure they’ve shipped the last couple of iPad models with a 10w adapater; that was certainly the case with my 9.7” Pro.

Still have a 12w charger from my iPad 4 days.
