Yeah, not to rain on your parade, but ehh.... maybe start thinking about using something else than Chrome? I see you only have about four tabs open, and it uses a whopping 2.260 MBs of RAM. Thats huge.
I’m a heavy Chrome user and bought the 8gb ram version and I’ve not noticed a difference or anything in terms of
Performance. Yes I do get around 350mb swap memory but I’m assuming that’s normal?

That’s because i had four tabs of 4k videos running all at once on chrome while running many apps all at once to show the 16gb had zero swap. I could just have a few apps running or a few chrome tabs on the 8gb and was getting swap. I prefer chrome over safari.

Like i said paying $1700 and getting swap with a few chrome tabs open I was not happy with. The 16gb feels snappier for sure to me as well performance wise. Nothing wrong with the 8gb it just wasn’t for us. We also kept our last imac for 8 years which was 8gb and plan to do the same with this one and 16gb is future proof.

That's fine, really. Apple lets you choose the larger memory if you wish to run it more as MacChrome rather than as MacSafari. Basically, for those who don't need to use the Chrome browser then the Mac may run more efficiently with Safari. And, otherwise, yes, you may need the extra memory for other memory intensive applications, too. I don't say it will definitely run better with Safari in all cases ... with that 4k stuff it still chews up memory either way. My base model always uses some swap.

Late to the party but ordered mine tonight.
Blue - 16GB/2TB
Delivers - Jul 19 - 26

Now the wait…… ?
You're getting exactly what I got. I had ordered mine April 30th and it was delivered on June 1st. It replaced a 27" 2011 iMac. The difference in speed so far, just for doing mundane things like waking the computer, booting it up, opening Apps, etc, has been like night and day!

Same here - very heavy on Chrome for work - over 20 tabs open.
Plus I use Safari for personal browsing at the same time and occasionally for ad block reasons I use FireFox as well.

All 3 browsers running plus MQA audio streaming, video streaming, and light photoshop use = no slowdown on my base 8GB M1 iMac!

Very pleased = just as good as my M1 Mini which just blows away all the past Intel Macs - hands down!

This is essentially my workload haha and on my 2016 MBP, it struggles a lot. On the M1 iMac, it works like a breeze. I was sceptical about getting 8gb to begin with, my only concern was future proofing but i'm not a heavy user and im anticipating for it to last me a while anyway.

I'm 100% going for 16gb RAM on the new M1X MBP though.

Finally a change in the order: it has now changed to "Preparing to ship" and my card has been charged!
Expected date of delivery is June 18th, but I hope it might arrive a bit earlier. With my previous order, the Apple TV 4K, there was only a day between payment and delivery. UPS won't deliver in weekends here though, so I'll receive it Monday at the earliest.

We'll wait and see. I'm hoping to get it somewhere next week. ?

(Blue, 16 GB RAM/512 GB SSD, shipping to the Netherlands).

When did you initially place your order?

I placed my order on May, 1st.

So basically everyone receives it before the projected date right?

When placing the order, the projected date was 11-18 June.
After ordering, the projected date was confirmed June 18th.
After yesterday, the iMac shipped, and the date changed to June 21st.

When I will receive my order exactly is to be seen, but it probably isn't on the projected date of the 18th of June.

So when do you think the new iMac will come with Monterey pre-installed? My current iMac a late 2012 model so I am due for an upgrade, but will wait to get one with Monterey, I want to start fresh rather upgrade the OS.

They will probably move quickly to do that once the production Monterey is released (they may even start putting Monterey on units in the factory shortly before it is released to the public) however if you buy old stock it could still get a unit with Big Sur. If you get Big Sur you could update to Monterey and then do a reset to get almost the same experience as getting one with Monterey.
