Okay, after looking at this work-around for a little bit... I don't like it. Yes, the text is centered in the field better but, the field is 1 pixel up too high now (that's the only way I could bring the text down) and the send button isn't tall enough to get the same spacing as the input field. Apple is going to have to fix this one because simply making everything else fit to the text is harder than just moving the text element down 1 pixel (which I can't do)

I agree.

How would you expect apple to do with the letters which have 7 px on one side and 8 px on the other side? You can't have half of a pixel. Unless they change the size of the letter they're going to have a problem since 15 is not divisible by 2.

I think he was just being sarcastic. Trying to be funny.

Okay guys. I've got a new update for you all. I have fixed 3 of the visual bugs by jailbreaking and modifying the graphics. Here are some screenshots of what I came up with.

Fixed the default contacts image:

Fixed the default Messages image:

I also came up with a new idea for the text field in Messages. I made it look like the person's name entry field. I think it looks kinda cool and minimalistic... what do you guys think?

I attached a new zip file containing all of my new graphics in case you wanna try them out. It's sad that I have to figure this stuff out instead of Apple... hmm.

I kinda dig the no text field look. Very clean.

I was thinking the same thing. You know what else it reminds me of? It kinda looks like composing an email. It's not too bad at all. I might apply this to my 3G now. Right now I only have it applied to my first gen iPhone.

I'm sorry to bring this thread back but I made another change. Please let me know what you think of this. I added a slight drop shadow under the white to give it a recessed look. I was getting annoyed by the fact that it looked like the graphics were missing. At least this way, it looks like it's supposed to be typed in. Any thoughts?

I'm not going to lie, I like it.
Now that you brought these 'bugs' to my attention I can't not stop looking at them without being annoyed.

I like that latest Mockup Spaz! Maybe you could improve the send button too? Could you please upload it, so I can try it?

I've always wanted to see what a more square Send button would look like. Not entirely sure how it would scale as the text box scales, though.

The send button doesn't scale.

I know it doesn't currently, but if we go with your frameless text entry and throw in a button that goes...ahh I'll just try and show you...

That's what I'm trying to describe but my brain is fried today. Like I said, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. Just wanted to throw it out there. It may not necessarily be practical in use, and would probably cause some issues. But I like thinking about these things.

I can't make the send button square like that. It has to be the same size as Apple's default button because if I make it bigger, it just shrinks to the invisible bounding box that Apple has made for that graphic.

Sorry.

Oh, I wasn't requesting it be done or attempted, I was just throwing the idea out there to see what you and others thought about it.

My unlock screen isn't displaying artist and album, only song title. This seems to be a bug since it works for everyone else...

Not a bug. Go to Settings, General, Home, and iPod Controls set to ON. Then when you double tap the home button from the lock screen, it works fine.

Calendar Event Visual Bug

Precondition: Use Calendar to view a 'Birthday' event in month 'x'.
Procedure: From idle, go to Spotlight and select a Birthday event that occurs in month 'y', and then Calendar Event view opens.
Problem: The 'back' button in top left is labelled with month 'x' instead of month 'y'.

(Found on iPod Touch, assumed to be the same in iPhone.)

That's interesting... it says whatever you were on last before Spotlight opened Calendar but when you tap it, it goes back to the date of the event you opened from Spotlight. Good find!

That's not really a visual bug though... I think it's a programming error. The kind of visual glitches I am seeing have to do with the way the graphics are drawn... not the text within the graphics. There's nothing visual wrong with what you found, but the data is wrong.

A pixel off is a pixel FAIL!
Classic, just classic.
Okay, I'll play. + sign is not center in landscape Notes app. :D
Yeah that has bugged me so I've downgraded to the 2.x firmware and refuse to buy a new 3GS.
I agree with everything you said. I'm kinda surprised that people here think this thread is a big joke. I guess since the iPhone is so popular that it's not just appealing to Mac people... Mac users are usually a little more picky about UI stuff. We're so used to perfection. I also agree that designers see this stuff way easier. I've never had a problem with the previous UI on the iPhone before 3.0.

Oh well. I guess it's up to the users to fix the problems (which is a lot harder than it is for Apple)

It may not be a joke but some of it is just downright silly. It is sloppy, but I would say I noticed 30% of what you did without really looking. However, I am an Apple user so I defend sloppy work while sticking another Apple sticker on my forehead.

They have no interest in fixing the Messages text bug :( but you didn't hear that from me. :(

Can my fellow MacRumors people help me out and submit the "Messages input text" bug to Apple so they can fix it for us?

I noticed another visual abnormality:

Some third party apps launch too quickly. Some don't even show the launch animation at all. All of Apple's built in apps show a nice launch animation and the rest of the icons fly away at the same time. However, Twitterrific seems to stutter on launch making it so the icons around don't fly away... if you watch, the screen just turns black. Compare launching Apple apps and launching third party apps. Sketches is the same way.

However, the app Things launches normally.
