A thing that bothers me is that there's lines across the messages, phone and iPod icon it's ugly.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

-snip-

You can see it here if you zoom on the picture.

I know it's not a visual bug since Apple did it that way, but I posted this here anyway.
Um the pic doesn't show up... Unless you are complaining about the ugly green :D.

Just to let you guys know: I just bought an iPhone 3GS yesterday and this graphical glitch...

...is fixed on the iPhone 3GS. I guess Apple must have noticed it and fixed it for the 3GS and forgot to fix it (or didn't have time) for the iPhone 3G.

...Cool!

I hope they fix the rest soon though!

This is what the iPhone 3G looks like:

Notice the right edge of the joined buttons. There's nice definition on the 3GS whereas it looks cutt off on the 3G.

I just have to add that the Messages text input has bothered me since I first opened the app. Although the current "Sending" progress bar is a step up from what we had before, TheSpaz's iteration is much better. Additionally, I would like to see a larger "Send" button.

Apple, make it happen.

Hey Spaz can you make an animated gif of the change, I am having a hard time telling the difference between the two?

Here's the animation.

The image with the blue location button is 3GS firmware.

Specifically watch the right side of the directions button. Don't ask me how I see these things so easily.

Seriously... I'm a visual kind of guy. One of the biggest reasons I like Apple products is because they look a lot better than their competitors. I also love how Mac OS X looks. It just boggles my mind that Apple Software Engineers can't center some text within a text field. I mean, look at Safari's address field... the text doesn't look too high in that... what makes the Messages app different? I consider this a bug because it bugs me. It doesn't look right and it's probably my OCD that is causing me to behave this way. I just think 2.2.1 *looks* better. I may not switch back because I know I'd miss copy and paste and push and such, but jeeze... I just want the OS to *look* like it used to. Why they changed it... I have no idea.

I'm with you on this. I've been submitting bugs as a developer since Beta 1 and see general responsiveness. Somethings that are more opinion are taking longer. Way to go!

One of the downsides of being in the graphic design field is that I notice stuff like this way too easily. It's almost as if it jumps out at me and screams "I'm not right!!!!"

I have to say though... after owning an iPhone 3GS, the apps start up so quickly that you can't even tell that the Default.png file is different. On the iPhone 3G, it's much easier to spot since you have to look at the Default.png file for like 2 seconds.

where is your homepage? would like to see some of your work in the graphic design field

Did I say I was a graphic designer myself? No, I'm not a graphic designer, but I work with other people's designs every day at work. I work in a Pre-Press department at a printing company.

Do I need to be a mechanic to know when my car doesn't work right?
Do I need to be a chef to know when food doesn't taste right?

You get the idea. I have eyes... I can see when things don't look right. I have especially keen vision because I work with this stuff all day at work.

Here's some of my photography though: http://just-spaztik.deviantart.com/gallery/

Another bug I noticed in 3.0.
Within the Mail.app, when an email has only partially downloaded, the loading circle appears fine in portrait mode. However once flipped into landscape mode the loading circle is placed incorrectly. See images below.

Good catch! Thanks for contributing to my thread!

Ever since switching back to 2.2.1, I notice no visual bugs. :D

Just so you know... 3.1 did not fix this bug:

I found this when using the SMS. Idk if it is a visual bug or what. I posted this in another thread but thought i would add it here.

Idk if this counts since im not even suppose to have MMS anyways but here it is.

The blue line and the pink line on the camera icon.

Great! I've actually never seen that one. Do you know how to reproduce it?

I also have a performance bug in 3.0 (also in 3.1 beta):
When opening most 3rd party apps, I notice that the startup screen animates too quickly (the rest of the homescreen icons disappear instead of fly away). Here's how you check this bug. Launch a few native Apple apps and notice how the homescreen icons scatter and a startup screen zooms toward you. Then open a few 3rd party apps and the homescreen icons simply disappear without an animation at all. It's almost like it stutters so the homescreen scatter animation doesn't display at all. I wish I could take a screenshot of this. Note: This bug doesn't exist on the iPhone 3GS... :(

Yes, just by me turning my phone to landscape it does it. But if you open up a text in portrait to where you can see you conversation, then exit to the home screen then open the messages app with the phone already in landscape before you tap the app, it seem to last a little bit longer. Idk if that was clear or not. If it wasnt ill try agin lol. im on a 3G btw.

And yes i HATE that! When opening native apps the other apps seem to fly away, sometimes faster than others, but still fast. However with 3 party apps the app just pops up!

HOWEVER ive noticed that the voice memos app seems to pop up sometimes and also seems to just shut off when exiting it also.

I've noticed that about Voice Memos as well. 2.1.1 had much smoother animations. I'm using 2.2.1 right now. Even tapping the reply field in Messages scrolls up smoother (like the iPhone 3GS)

Truth is, Apple optimized 3.0 for the iPhone 3GS and didn't really care about making it run well on the iPhone 3G.

Yea, sometimes the reply field box looks like I pressed return a few times and won't let me type on it. So I have to go to the home screen and open messages agin...

None of these visual bugs seem to be fixed in 3.1 beta 2. Too bad though... I was really looking forward to some visual tweaks.

Dear Steve Jobs: Can you please put the Mac OS design team back on the iPhone? The iPhone GUI shouldn't be this sloppy.

My assumption (based on anecdotal evidence) is, Apple optimized 3.0 for the iPhone 3GS and didn't really care about making it run well on the iPhone 3G.

Fixed that for you (unless of course you actually work for Apple's iPhone team, in which case shouldn't you be under NDA?).

got something for you not really Visual though this is on 3.0 3g...

in iPod e.g in "albums" choose whatever album once and go back by pressing the albums button at the bottom not the one on the top.

On mine the album button on the top does not fade properly...

With the new select mechanism two blue dots...
For example in message app try to write something and double tap and hold until the blue dots appears, it seems it pops up behind the text box not at the front until you release ur finger...

Also not sure if this is a bug or not but when in notes try to change view into landscape then turn back into potrait, notice the search bar appeared

What's my evidence? Just run 3.0 on a non-3GS. That's my evidence. 3.0 does not perform as well as 2.2.1 does. I know this because I am using 2.2.1 again and I have a much better experience. I miss copy and paste, but I don't need it that bad.

Er yes, that would be anecdotal evidence as I said...

when sending a picture - mms

this isn't really a visual bug, but it's something that needs to be redone.

photo 2 - the photo bubble just looks messed
photo 3 - this is the image i sent, (how the receiver would see it) it's pushed down for some reason.
