well you forget one other fact. AT&T can force a phone to update to 3.1. All it takes is for a force update pushed to the phone or have it the only way the phone can even use their network is have 3.1 on it.
I would not be surprised as soon as Apple can figure it out that a force update will be shoved to all the phone not up to 3.1 and those that can not be updated get kick off the network at a certain point.
Correct, no more tethering with 3.1. I just installed mine, thought I could pull it off somehow by re installing the tether steps. No no, that sucks...oh well I'm sure soon someone will find out how to tether through 3.1.
I rarely use tethering but do need it on some occasions. There is nothing I need, in the 3.1 update, that is worth losing it.

Just updated to 3.1 on O2 in the UK and tethering still works using the BenM method (not even had to re-apply the hack since updating).
Matt
i have jusy updated to the 3-1 update i am with o2 contract and the BenM hack stopped working for me at first the opption was still there but when i want to use it . it just fanished please help i am looking fo a new fix now but with not a lot of luck
As I said before, if you don't give details your comment is just noise, how do we know your setup so we can compare it to ours dum bum.
Well obviously I said I updated my software to 3.1. There is not much else detail I can say about that hahaha. Thanks for letting me know your like "detail" I remember next time so you....can be satisfied with others opinions and comments.
I don't think so!
The iPhone firmware package is 297MB of data. AT$T won't let you install apps over 10MB. Do you REALLY think they would push an update of that tremendous size to every iPhone on their network?
Are you on O2 or AT&T or Rogers, those details would be a good start, which I thought was pretty obvious.
Also learn to construct a sentence btw, your reply doesn't really make much sense.
Did you all honestly think 3.1 would not break tethering? Lastly, what is the whole deal with tethering? Do you all REALLY need it?
My fault, I am with AT&T. After I put the 3.1 software on I went back to see if my tethering was there, it was gone.
Ideas on how to get it going again?
No idea, I've stayed on the previous version of the iPhone OS. :-/
I wish I hadn't switched to 3.1. I really don't notice much of a difference at all. Should have waited till mms was realized. How do I go back to 3.0?
