Martin (or others on this thread): do you know if there is a way using OpenCore to load drivers for a PCIe USB 3 card so a mac pro classic can boot on USB 3?

Should be the first time in my life I see a mac booting from an USB pcie.
This is not booting, but chain loading. Once you loaded the drivers from elsewhere (OC or EFI shell are the two possible options at this moment), you already booted something.

Loading the FL1000 MP6,1 drivers works from the EFI shell, since 2017ish, and people are now working it out via OC (AFAIK no one really got it working but seems to be really possible). Injecting the drivers inside the firmware don't work (before or after the Intel ones) for some yet unknown reason, lots of people checked this since we successfully loaded via EFI shell.

This is on my low priority to-do list (today there are lot's of better 3rd party controllers than FL1100 and we only have EFI modules for FL1100) and I'll try it again in the future.

I supposed so. Thanks.

@h9826790 Martin is it safe to upgrade to monterey - OTA. I read about the Bluetooth/wifi issue before is that resolved with the OC.7.6 ? or should I wait

Thanks

If you have an upgrade wifi/BT card, that should be fine.

But if you still with the original card, that won't work.

Hi guys,
After updating the to 0.7.6 the OC boot picker shows up but I can't select nothing, i’m pressing arrows but no change on screen, like no refresh, my mouse cursor is cropped in half like there is some small window for boot icons only. I searched in google and this thread without any luck. Is there any easy solution?

Update #1: when I insert my windows ssd to pci lane bootpicker works as intended.
Update #2: issue completely solved by doing the reflash procedure with the reconstructed rom by tsialex, highly recommended!

I finally managed to get latest Monterey 12.1 on my MacPro 5.1.
I was on BigSur with no issue.
Once config.plist modified to get Monterey (and back after upgrade) all was done seamless.
But .... it is very slow, I think this came from HW graphic acceleration.
I'm with a Nvidia Geforce 680 GTX with MAC EFI/boot rom.
Do I have to modify the OC file to enable acceleration that should be done by default for AMD cards ?

Regards.

Apple with Monterey removed all support for Nvidia GPUs.

AMD hardware acceleration for video compression/decompression/color grading have nothing to do with macOS METAL, Quartz Extreme and Core Image video acceleration.

Monterey don't have support for Nvidia GPUs, so no METAL, Quartz Extreme and Core Image acceleration.

You have to use OCLP post-install patches to have Monterrey acceleration with a NVIDIA GPU or reinstall manually the NVIDIA drivers.

Hello Tsialex,

Thanks for contributing and your fast response !

As I'm a newbie with OpenCore, I just use the "All-in-one" (the latest 0.7.6 post #1314) that enables me month ago to go from Mojave to Catalina and then to BigSur, I was obliged to modify the config.plist for "CPUID" and "updateBIOS" to avoid to run in permanent loop during installation of Monterey ... but all this is quite new for me.
Could you make me the favor of guiding me. (link to relevant forum post ?)

I've tried to search OCLP patch but not sure this will broke everything, the same way I've tried to find the proper method of reinstalling Nvidia web drivers and found some tips on forum to enable in config.plist of OC support for Nvidia drivers but not sure all this is compatible with the "ready to use" package ... more over when I've tried to use a all in one tool it says that Nvidia web driver I found isn't compatible with OS version :-( ...

What is for you the best way for you ? (to ensure future minorOS upgrade, as I understand this will become more and more difficult to support our MacPro beast in the future !)

As soon as graphic card price will return to normality I think I'll be obliged to buy an RX580 as I should have done before semiconductor crisis, I was stick to my 680 GTX with Apple EFI to enable boot rom feature...

Regards,

Cyrille.

Well @h9826790 I had to enable VMM flag to get the installation going and now I am stuck here on this screen

Any thought on what I could do?

update : I have also tried doing a fresh install but still no luck, I am stuck on the same place

You should move your question to the OCLP thread, this is not in any way related to this thread.

Anyway, is just like I wrote, install Monterey via OCLP and apply the post install patches to have NVIDIA driver support again - each macOS update will need the post-install patches again. If you don't like to do it, downgrade to BigSur, the last macOS release to have NVIDIA support.

Btw, NVIDIA web driver works up to the last release of High Sierra, after that NVIDIA support is only via Apple own native NVIDIA Kepler drivers.

Thanks again !

This confirm (for me) the option to wait for Radeon video card to avoid to exotic configuration/trouble.
As I always test on a pre-production standard SSD before applying on my "production" NVME SSD, I'll wait for a decent price for a Radeon Card upgrade.

Cyrille.

I'm running Monterey 12.0.1 on my 5,1 using Martin's 0.7.4. I don't actually even see an update to 12.1. Why is that?

Also, re: upgrading, do I just replace my current OpenCore with Martin's 0.7.6, reboot, and then run Software Update? Or do I need to mess around with config again like when I upgraded from Catalina direct to Monterey?

Ok I have tried the latest 7.6 and the 7.3 v2 and still can not get my rx580 display ports to work HDMI works fine. I can unplug the display cable and plug it back in and the monitor will come on for a second but then will go back idle again. is there something I'm missing

Hello,
New to open core, installed it fine but get firmware error after during Monterey installation, is this a known issue?
Using mounted pcie SSD which is now appearing as internal drive. Updating from Mojave have msg Radeon RX560 card.
Been unable to find what is causing the firmware issue, any help welcome.
Thanks
