Hello, thanks for getting back with the above.
Checked the config.plist and I had the correct FirmwareFeatures already.

However I managed to install BigSur without issues, then changed cpuidMask and updateSMBIOS as indicated here #1,314 and installed Monterey.

Just wifi and bluetooth don't work but understand there's a patch for that?

Thanks again

I'm running Monterey 12.0.1 on my 5,1 using Martin's 0.7.4. I don't actually even see an update to 12.1. Why is that?

Also, re: upgrading, do I just replace my current OpenCore with Martin's 0.7.6, reboot, and then run Software Update? Or do I need to mess around with config again like when I upgraded from Catalina direct to Monterey?
Check the "Additional option 3" from post #1,314, watch the video below the "Additional option 3" text and update will be available for your MP 5,1. After successful update, revert config.plist to settings before update.

I have successfully updated my MP 5,1 using that procedure.

Hi, I could use some help regarding Bluetooth in Monterey with my cMP. I am following the instructions from "h9826790". I am using OC version 0.7.6. Everything has worked great so far... ? Many thanks to Martin and the OpenCore developers... It's fantastic what you guys can do. ? I made the WiFi and Bluetooth mod with the Broadcom BCM94360CD. It works under BigSur, but unfortunately not in Monterey ?. As a last attempt I have activated SID. Does anyone have any idea? Many thanks in advance

Used 0.7.6 as is and just updated the CPU mask and installed Monterey 12.1 without a hitch.

I have a weird issue, none of my Mac Pro 5.1's USB ports are working except for my own PCI USB 3.1 card. Any ideas why this is happening?

Obviously Wifi and Bluetooth isn't working as expected with the old hardware.

Hi all,

I'm looking to install linux, specifically PopOS, on a spare drive on my Mac Pro 4,1->5,1. I'm using Opencore, and having no problems with either Monterey or Windows 11.

The Live USB boots up no problem, but the install freezes on configuring the disk. I force shut down the machine, and a new NO NAME disk shows up, but booting to it just gives me a grey screen. Not a black screen, but a fully grey screen. I tried doing the install on my laptop, a 2017 15" MacBook Pro, and the install went no problem. Putting that disk (with the completed, booting, working install) back into my Mac Pro results in the same grey screen.

I've seen mentions of an OpenLinuxBoot kext, but I'm not sure where to begin with that. Google has not been helpful, unfortunately. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful. I remembering seeing a guide to installing Linux in the first post of this thread, but that's no longer there, I'm assuming due to changes brought about this mysterious OpenLinuxBoot?

Specs are as follows: OC 0.7.4 (Martin Lo flavour), x5690, 24GB 1333 DDR3, RX 5700XT, and a Crucial 1TB SATA SSD for the Linux install.

Thank you all in advance!

-Grady

A bit of an oddity if someone can explain.
I've installed Monterey on my mac pro 5,1 NMVe Samsung 970 evo on pcie card without having open core efi installed, just has apple folder in there.

I get boot screen and drive picker still, everything is working apart from wifi and Bluetooth, which assume is hardware compatibility.

I initially trialed the installation on an ssd using open core 0.7.6.
Could it be the rom memory is picking up open core efi from my previous installation?

Thanks

If you are seeing the OC boot picker then you are booting through OC. You must have an OC installation still active/blessed on your SSD.

WiFi/Bluetooth depends on your hardware. Have you updated your wifi/bluetooth card in the Mac Pro?

Still original BCM_4350C2 bluetooth and wifi cards.
Expect these are no longer supported in Monterey, they worked with BigSur.

Yes OC is on my 2.5 Crucial SSD EFI, but does not appear on my Samsung NVMe EFI drive partition.

You only should have one EFI partition with OC so having it on the SSD is fine.

I am not sure you can get that bluetooth card working in Monterey. Check and see if the Open Core Legacy Patcher provides post install scripts to enable the original Mac Pro wifi card. Most likely you will need to upgrade it. Search in the main OC thread - OpenCore on the Mac Pro for bluetooth and Monterey and you may find more details on options.

From what I’ve been reading doesn’t seem to work but will continue to look into it.

Thanks for your help.

Trying to install OC on a 10.14.6 SSD and I'm getting the following error when I try to bless the EFI folder using the latest package 0.7.6:
The action “Run AppleScript” encountered an error: “No mount point for /Volumes/EFI
Can't determine mount point of '/Volumes/EFI'
Could not statfs() /Volumes/EFI
Could not determine filesystem of /Volumes/EFI”

*This is on my cMP 5,1. BTW when I used Clover to mount the EFI folder it was within a folder named ESP that had the following:

If ESP is the mountpoint then the AppleScript should not be looking at /Volumes/EFI.
Type mount to see where all the partitions are mounted (their mountpoints).
If you can't fix the Apple script then change the mountpoint.
I think you can go to /Volumes in the Finder, select ESP, and change the name to EFI. This will change the name of the volume and the name of the mountpoint.
Check mount before and after.
Check for thevolume in /Volumes/E*; do; diskutil info $thevolume; done before and after.

I don't think they do, at least nobody have succeeded to boot with one yet.
No Navi2x cards for cMP unfortunately. Only Navi1x and VegaII.

Hmmmm… 5700 is more expensive atm. But don’t want to risk not working.

There have been several posts about Navi2x issues on cMP.

RX 5700 works well on cMP as reported by myself and others.

Used RX 5700 are indeed overpriced, like most GPUs nowadays. One thing to try is to look for "new" 2-3 years old gaming PCs that have RX 5700 pre-installed (such as the HP Omen series) and "scalp" the RX 5700 for your own cMP! That's what I did recently. The cost will be similar and possibly less than buying a used RX 5700, but you get a new and unused GPU. The rest of the gaming PC components can be sold or gifted (or used too!)

Will keep my eyes out for such systems… don’t think they’re all too prevalent in Australia, but you never know. Just picked up an RX5500XT from Gumtree for a reasonable price, so will see how that goes.

Dumb question about installing Martin's package on a multi-OS system (mac pro 5,1). I want to put OC running on a separate linux disk (sata) with OSX on it's own NVME PCIe card. I assume that I need to mount the EFI of the linux disk to install OC, but then mount the EFI of the macOS disk to place the "BOOT" folder there. But it's a NVME PCIe card, which CC will not mount. Is there another way to access to the EFI of the NMVME disk to do that? Thanks!

What's a CC?

list the disks diskkutil list
mount a partition diskutil mount disk0s1
list mounted partitions mount to find the mountpoint of a partition.

The entire OC install goes into one EFI partition on only one of your drives.

Hi - I am having a problem doing clean install of 11.6.2 - it just enters boot loop.

Made a backup before I started via CCC. Backup still boots perfectly. Installing not.

Tried three different versions (11.5.2, 11.6, 11.6.1, 11.6.2) all same. First boot is fine (disk is still named 'Macintosh HD') next boot begins the loop after picker and white apple - almost a second after the progress bar appears, every single time. (Cannot find macOS installers between 11.3 and .5)

Installing from recovery of the install drive - exactly the same. Result. Tried installing to internal HD, internal SSD and NVMe PCIe. Same every time.

Found a copy of 11.2.3 - installed perfectly first time. Tried to update via System Prefs/SW Update - same boot loop. The point at which the reboot starts is exactly the same every time, unlike the 'race condition' which was kinda random.

Other notes:
The installer reboots are silent - no chime and the "Restarted because there was a problem' message comes up after bootpicker.
Boots OK into 11.5.2 etc Recovery but on restart back to same problem.

At my wits end now.

Could there possibly be some setting in the OC config that might prevent 11.6+ from installing but not prevent it from booting OK?

I am using a mod version of Martin's config for 0.7.6 - the mod is the 2 bluetooth/wifi sections: true instead of false and the change for 4K resolution. Config attached.

Asked in another thread but no response so please excuse all the cross posting - I am going crazy!

Thanks
