Hello everyone!
I was running Mojave 10.14.16 (installed on an m.2 ssd) on my mac pro 4.1/5.1 2x 3.46 GHz CPU, 18 GB RAM, SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX590 with opencore 0.7.7 installed in an HDD in the slot 1.
When I first ran the last release from Martin I had no HDMI audio, so I started checking out some posts from several users with the same bug, I didn't find much info so I started checking the config file and decided to disable GOP rendering (set it to false) and I got my HDMI audio, yay! Everything was running awesome so I deciced to try out Catalina 10.15.6 so I installed it and I still had HDMI audio, so now I wanted to get a Win 10 UEFI install. On the README file, Martin says its best to put opencore on a windows drive if you have one, so I followed the procedure on the opencore on the mac pro 5.1 thread to install WIN 10 in a SATA SSD in slot 2 and got it running succesfully, my windows 10 uefi install is running great, installed some games and they ran just fine (and I do have HDMI audio).
I kinda tried to perform Martin's instructions to move OC to the windows EFI folder but tbh I didn't understand how to do it correctly, I just did what the README file stated and I assumed I had to erase the oc and boot folders from the EFI of the HDD that had opencore on my mac but it didnt really work because opencore didnt boot and it went straight into my mac partition, so I just turned it off, removed the opencore hdd on slot one, power on, blessed the EFI WIN ssd with the file inculded in Martin's release, and after a reboot I had opencore back so I turned it off again, put back my hdd in slot 1, and my mac is still booting opencore.
I don't really know if what I did was the right way to do it.
Today I decided to install big sur 11.6.1 and suddenly I no longer had my HDMI audio output. So Im trying to figure out which parts of the config I should be checking for to enable my HDMI audio once more and hope anyone can also help me out confirming if moving OC to the WIN 10 SSD like I did was ok, maybe it´s what broke my HDMI audio in the first place.
Thank you all in advance, this bootloader is awesome and my mac pro feels superb.
I installed Windows 10 in Legacy mode. Runs fine.

Jumped onto rust to see if the activation worked. I get an average of 11 fps and every 5 minutes of running around its 4 fps at it's lowest settings. I see nothing outside that my internals are heating up and i'm using full blast to cool it down every time ambient goes over 28*C every few minutes. Awesome work x5690-radeon vii-and nvme ssd-and 96 supposedly triple channel. I got better scores with a 2.4 ghz 1gb 5870. 24gb ram with a hdd with no open core a y̶e̶a̶r̶ few years ago. what's up?

who wants a radeon vii that performs worse than a 5870 i guess? cool beanz

edit: analogous to what i'm doing with video. transferred film. scrubbing is like skating through ditches, run stop run stop. hate premiere as well, but i'm saving my temper tantrum for adobe because that's what i pay them for. bogus

Hi Martin.
What changes need to be made to your config/kexts to get BT working on Monetery OC 0.77 with BCM94360 Card upgrade installed. Wifi is working but not bluetooth and I am not sure if we screwed up the installation or its related to OC configs or kexts!
Thank you

Martin:

I'm attempting to install Monterey on a 5,1 using your 0.7.8 V2 above (current release).

Box is 14.0.0.0 FW, with firmware rebuilt by Alex.

Dual Proc 3.46 6 Cores, Sapphire Pulse RX580.

Your OC is on it's own USB stick, the Monterey Installer on another one.

Monterey to be installed to a newly formatted (by the installer pre install) SSD with no partitions.

The OC Boot runs fine, it allows me to run the Monterey installer, it gets through it's first reboot (although I had to power it down and pack "macOSInstaller" from OC) and it continued to 2nd reboot. At this point it reboots, partially showing the progress bar, then the progress bar resets and the circle with a slash comes up.

I did a cold power, picked the installer from the OC menu, and then it comes up and says it needs a firmware update.

Now prior to this I watched the "Catalina / Monterey" video about how to turn on VMM Flag and switch off SMBIOS spoofing, but the video didn't have the usual closed captions on what to exactly set and the video is so blurry and moves so fast there's no way to tell what exactly to do, so I am just running your stock build at this point.

Any way to get past this?

Thanks

Mark

With the newer OC packages and Monterey I am experiencing extremely long boot times and sometimes it even fails to boot. If it fails to boot (it just gets stuck) a simple forced reboot does the job. Any suggestions?

Yes, keep rebooting if it fails to boot.🤪

I am using the package from Martin lo, so can this still be an issue?

If I following your hint I find the following thing in my config:

</dict>
<key>PlatformInfo</key>
<dict>
<key>Automatic</key>
<false/>
<key>CustomMemory</key>
<false/>
<key>Generic</key>
<dict>

should I set Automatic now to true?

Alright, thank you very much! My machine still boots so everything should be fine. Will report if this solved the issue or not.

I created a new "easy to install package" as per many requested (based on the official OpenCore). [The attached package updated to 0.7.8]

For those who only need HWAccel, post #594 has everything you need. This new package mainly offer HWAccel + boot screen. Also, this package should work in Catalina and newer macOS for dual processor cMP.

I don't mind you guys discuss anything about this package, but I have no plan to provide any explanation about OpenCore at here. If you want to know more, please join cdf's OpenCore thread. For new joiners, please make sure read through the FAQ in post #1 before you ask anything.

The attached packaged included Clover Configurator and a complete preconfigured OpenCore. All credits goes to the developer teams. If you want to show your support, please give them donation (declaration of interest: I am NOT in any of their developer teams)

For Clover Configurator and OpenCore developers teams, please let me know if you want me to remove the associated software inside my attachment in this post.

This is a "one package fit all" solution. So, it's designed to fit as much setup as possible, which may not be optimized for your setup (e.g. I haven't provide HiDPI boot screen, for those who are running 4K screen, the Apple logo may be quite small during boot). You have to do the optimization by yourself (details in the OpenCore manual, some info also available in cdf's OpenCore thread).

Anyway, for those who have RX 460 or newer AMD GPU, this package should gives you:
  1. Boot screen (via GOP for unflashed card, including some Nvidia card)
  2. Firmware protection (to run Windows in EFI mode without risking the cMP bootROM)
  3. HWAccel (H264 / HEVC hardware decode + encode in Mojave and newer macOS)
  4. ability to watch DRM streaming content (Mojave and newer macOS)
  5. Boot picker (only support EFI systems, tested with Apple wired keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Keyboard, 10s timeout. If you can't see this. Just don't touch the keyboard, and your cMP should continue to boot to desktop)
  6. NVMe and SATA drives on PCIe card show up as internal
  7. Support for Apple USB SuperDrive
  8. TRIM (regardless trimforce status)
  9. Ability to run non-GUI 32bit software in Catalina
  10. Ability to reset NVRAM in boot picker (disabled at this moment to align with the native Apple boot manager)
  11. Ability to run any natively supported ancient OSX with modern graphic card e.g. Radeon VII in 10.6.8 (only can display, no acceleration) [Update 5th May 2020: Sierra and High Sierra may not fully supported yet. Thanks for pierrox's report]
  12. Ability to boot Catalina / Big Sur / Monterey and the associated Recovery Partition [SurPlus (credit to Syncretic) is included and enabled by default to fix the racing condition in macOS 11.3 or later][MonteRand is also included. another credit to Syncretic]
  13. Sleep should work (tested on my cMP, but I can't guarantee it also work with your hardware)
  14. Possible to run 8x32GB RAM in macOS (user need to mod the config.plist manually. Replace the false below CustomMemory to true)
  15. Enable HDMI Audio for some graphic cards
  16. Ability to monitor modern AMD GPU's temperature (by using the attached RadeonGadget. Credit to Aluveitie)
It's impossible for me (and other voluntary helpers) to test every single function in all situations. So, as usual, use at your own risk. But you are welcome to report back if there is any problem / error.

Pre-installation:
  • Recommend to backup your BootROM between step 1 and 2 (e.g. by using ROMTool, credit to Dosdude, password "rom")
  • If you want to test OpenCore, you can install this package onto a bootable USB thumb drive.
  • Quite a few users reported that can't boot OpenCore from NVMe, analysis shows that depends on hard drives config. It's hard to explain which exact scenario may hit this bug. So, please avoid to install this package on NVMe. You can install this package on ANY SATA drive with virtually no performance lost, not necessary your boot drive.
  • If you want to remove OpenCore, please mount the EFI partition by using Clover Configurator, then remove BOOT and OC folders inside the EFI folder on EFI partition.
  • If your cMP stuck at boot. After shutdown, please pull out the hard drive that contain OpenCore, then perform NVRAM reset. If still doesn't work, then please install your emergency graphic card that has boot screen. Hold Option to boot, then select your backup boot drive. This should disable OpenCore.
  • For those who want to report issue / error. Please provide details (e.g. which graphic card, OpenCore installed on NVMe / SATA drive, the issue's details, etc) otherwise it will be extremely hard (or even impossible) for me to work out what's wrong.
  • If you installed Lilu for whatever reason (e.g. because of innie), or applied my previous non-OpenCore HWAccel mod, please remove them or revert them. For Lilu + WEG, that means delete Lilu.kext in /Library/Extensions/ and reboot (caution: these kexts may be installed in System/Library/Extensions/ as well). For hex edit method, that means delete AppleGVA.framework in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ and rename AppleGVA.framework.bak to AppleGVA.framework. Warning: My packages already have Lilu and WEG included, "double installation" of these kexts will cause macOS boot failure.
  • For PULSE RX580, users reported that only can see boot screen when boot from gaming mode. There may be no UEFI GOP in the compute mode's ROM.
I tried to make the installation as simple as possible. However, I still demand you to learn some very basic skills. Those skills are very useful in the recovery process if something goes wrong. Anyway, here is what you need to do
  1. [Optional] 3x NVRAM reset to avoid some unknown issues.
  2. Disable SIP (must do, especially if you performed step 1)
  3. Download the attachment in this post (Some users reported 0.6.1 package has compatibility issue. You may download the 0.5.9 package if you prefer that, same installation procedures.)
  4. Follow the steps in this video (please turn on and read the subtitle)
  5. For Big Sur and Monterey, if some ports on your graphic card are disabled, please follow the steps in this video to re-enable them.
  6. Reboot

For existing OpenCore users, you may follow the step in this video to update OpenCore [For those who installed OC onto the Windows drive, please make sure you only replace the OC files, but not the whole EFI folder]

Additional option 1: If you have 4K screen, and you want to have "Retina" boot screen. You may do this. [Depreciated in 0.7.6, which Retina should be enabled automatically on 4K monitor]

Additional option 2: If you have a flashed Thunderbolt 3 card, you can install that in slot 4, then enable Thunderbolt 3 support by doing this.

Additional option 3: If you want to enable the ability to install / update Catalina, Big Sur and Monterey, please follow the steps in this video. [N.B. you should revert the changes after macOS installation completed. This special setting is not designed for daily use]

Additional option 4: If you have legacy wifi card, you may try the follow steps to re-activate the old wifi card in Big Sur (only avail in my 0.6.4 package or above)

Additional option 5: Since 0.6.3, I allow OC to take over SIP control. There are various reasons, but anyway, that's defaulted to be disabled. If you want to re-enable SIP, please follow the steps in this video. (please turn on the English subtitle when you watch this video, some useful info at there)

For FCP(X) users, if you want to export HEVC video by using HWAccel, you will need Compressor.
[N.B. The setting MUST identical to the one that I show in the video. Otherwise, HEVC hardware encoding may not work]

If you want to completely uninstall my OpenCore package, please follow the steps in this video.

N.B. Unflashed graphic card means "the ROM is never modified". For those who bought used card, and can't see the boot screen, most likely the last user flashed the card with modified ROM (e.g. downvolt for mining). In this case, you can go to TechPowerUp to find a ROM that fit your own card, and flash it.

P.S. If you want to support my work, please donate via the following link. Million thanks in advance! https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/martinlo420

Being new here, I understand this is an old post. Trying to decide on OC or OCLP but reading this install process became confused . My understanding after reading just about everything on this, I was under the impression that using the clover configurator was for hackintosh only but keep seeing this being applied to the Mac Pro as well. So is this for the cMP or just Hackintosh?

Just got this notification in Monterey 12.2 for my macOS drive:
Screen Shot 2022-03-09 at 17.15.53.png

Anyone recognize it?
Not sure if it was a conicence, but it came up at the exact same time as when I removed the cable from my wireless Apple keyboard which I usually use via Bluetooth. This has been working reliably via Bluetooth when switching between Windows 10 and macOS Monterey, but as of late I have to remove and re-pair the keyboard when going from one operating system to the other. Not sure why.

Found these articles on the topic:

For some other users, the error message appears if they’re running macOS Monterey on an officially unsupported Mac.

?‍♂️

Curious if anyone can chime in about about upgrading from Big Sur to Monterey - I'm currently on the Martins latest package (0.7.8) Am I able to simply install the upgrade from the standard Apple installer (are are there any special considerations if so)? Or do I have to wipe and reinstall fresh (which I'd rather not if possible)?

Thanks!

Joey

On my test environment (256 sata drive), I managed To get update without big trouble from each version to latest Monterey included. This is a clean install, without software nor data that I'm using to test upgrades.
On my « real » environment (1 To nvme drive) that was the same way before but I can’t do the update at Time each Time I’ve trie, it fails.
This comes probably from an old driver or software or nvme drive … but I haven’t had Time yet to start from a clean install To do it.
Stick To « only » big sur, but I have security update from a non obsolete system, this is ok for me (no more on Mojave !)
When I will have time , I‘ll try as proposed on this thread a clean install and restore onl’y data from my timebackup…

When I upgraded to 0.7.8, I lost my Bluetooth and was able to downgrade back okay.

If I upgrade to Monterey from 11.6.4, will 0.7.6 work okay and keep my Bluetooth? I have the upgraded module.

Finaly I take time this week-end to copy with Superduper! my working test drive to the day2day one and restore datas with Apple migration assistant from a TimeMachine Backup.
All working as a charm.

The only thing is on boot time both drive/partition are named the same as I copy the disk, is there an easy way to change boot screen partition names to avoid misunderstanding.
The strange thing is that once botted, drives names are ok in MacOS environment/DiskUtil etc.

Confused about SIP status. I have a 5,1cMP running 11.6.4. I had OC 0.7.6 installed and tonight went to 0.7.8V2. With both versions, csrutil status shows: SIP disabled. I can't turn it on or off in recovery and according to recent posts, it's supposed to be "custom" now anyway. The original video at the beginning of this thread is out of date on SIP settings.

So...
Why does my status show SIP as disabled?
Should SIP be enabled or disabled with Martin's 0.76 and 0.78 packages by default?
In either case, should I and how do I re-enable it?

thanks.

Hi everyone! I'm using Martin Lo's 0.7.6 package with Big Sur 11.6.4 and couldn't be happier. Both Big Sur and the 0.7.6 EFI are on the same SSD and I keep all working files on other drives - so it's truly a boot drive. I want to keep a reliable backup. So far I've done this by plugging in another SSD via a SATA USB adapter and used Carbon Copy Cloner to create a clone. I wasn't able to get that script (EFIClone) that various folks have linked to to work to copy the EFI after the CCC job, so instead I just mounted the EFI partitions using Clover and dragged the file structure from my boot drive to my backup drive. (For those curious - the EFIClone script just seemed to hang at postflight - I didn't investigate further)

Two questions:

1) Now that I've backed up my EFI partition once, do I ever have to do it again (unless I update to a newer version of Martin's package)? I'm not sure if files update on the partition or not.

2) If I'm trying to safeguard against the situation where the primary boot drive dies and I want to replace it with this backup, should I bless this backup's EFI as well? I never leave the backup drive plugged in during boot or anything - it's just on a monthly backup cycle since it's just apps and would be replaceable (with effort). I'm not really sure what blessing is all about - and not sure if you can bless a drive while another blessed drive is already in place? Like I said I'm super happy with this setup and don't want to rock the boat.

Thanks!!

I just updated to Martin Lo's 0.78v2 and macOS 12.3, and my Mac won't boot. It booted once after installing 12.3 (think it took a couple of tries). But hasn't booted since I turned off VMM spoofing (just hangs at about 50%).

Using Mojave, I applied the fixes to config.plist that you suggest above but it made no difference. Is anything else I need to do?

This has been working reliably via Bluetooth when switching between Windows 10 and macOS Monterey, but as of late I have to remove and re-pair the keyboard when going from one operating system to the other. Not sure why.

Found these articles on the topic:

For some other users, the error message appears if they’re running macOS Monterey on an officially unsupported Mac.

?‍♂️
Yeah I've had this too, twice. Also use a wireless pro keyboard with numberpad (iMac Pro version), but haven't done anything unusual with that. Updated to 12.3 from 12.2 to see if it would fix the issue, but now my Mac won't boot. No hum...

Damn it! Same here after updating to 12.3. Or rather, I managed to update after changing "Cpuid1Mask" to "on" to check for (find) and install the update. I could then boot into 12.3 fine, but then I switched back the "Cpuid1Mask" to "off" and restarted the computer -- after this I cannot get back into MacOS. Stalls or crashes and restarts during startup. OC 0.7.8.

Tried with the VMM flag set, as some people had success with this. Occasionally it gets to the desktop, but the keyboard doesn't work, so can't log in! Even using a regular RF keyboard.

Might try removing cdf's additions, but keep the VMM flag.

Also tried going back to OC 0.7.7, with and without VMM on, but that didn't work.

Edit: even with just Martin's stock OF 0.7.8 .plist with just the CPUID and SMBIOS stuff spoofed, it's still hanging at boot.

OK, I was able to log in by using VNC, but the physical keyboard still doesn't work! Can I downgrade to 12.2?

Just went from Big Sur 11.6.3 to Monterey 12.3 using Martin Lo's 0.78 v2 package. I made the appropriate two modifications to the config.plist, and Monterey installed just fine. However, his instructions state that once Monterey is installed, you should revert those changes back to his original config.plist and reboot. I did that, and my system would not boot (showed the OC boot picker, showed the apple logo and the loading bar, then it would reboot). I tried resetting the SMC, resetting the NVRAM 3x, etc.

The only way I was able to get back into my machine was by putting my HD in another cMP I have, using Clover, and modding the config.plist back to what worked for the install. Now the machine boots but I have two issues.

1. I used a USB Broadcom Bluetooth adapter and I can't even get BT to turn on. I really need BT to work and didn't think this would be an issue since I'm not using the built-in BT of the machine.

2. When viewing system report, the system firmware says 144.0.0.0.0, when I believe it should state the OC version (how Martin has been doing it for quite some time now). I'm hoping this doesn't mean that OC isn't loading as I cannot afford the race condition to rear its head.

Hoping for some help. Thanks.

My internal (upgraded) BT isn’t working, but weirdly other, USB keyboards no longer work either. Mouse is fine. Remoting in with VNC at least gives keyboard access, though obviously isn’t convenient.

OC is definitely loading for me as I get the boot menu.

Looks like I’ll be restoring from a recent TM backup to 12.2, tomorrow night. I’m sure you used to be able to use a combo updater to go back a point revision?
